In this video, we go through all essential boxing defensive techniques. I provide you with all the necessary progressions to perform the moves and demonstrate how everything is done.
There are four groups of defensive moves:
- Defensive footwork, which includes step-back and side-step.
- Evasive actions from the waist, which include slips, rolls, ducking, and pulling back.
- Hand defense, which includes blocks, shield blocks, parries, catches, and elbow blocks.
- Unorthodox defensive techniques like the shoulder roll, forehead block, and long guard.
I recommend practicing the first three groups of defensive techniques to make your opponents miss.

I used to train with a former Soviet boxer trainer for a while. He used to tell me that I am tall enough so I don't need to slip, but is enough for me to either step back or aside and keep my left hand forward always. He also told me that in the Soviet school, it is not recommended to throw more than 2, at most 3 consecutive punches from the same hand (if you are well trained), so after 2 punches from left hand, then the next should be right hand. Nice video, keep making some more practice videos (like show how to defend/dodge) then film yourself from our pov and we have to dodge your punches

Yes, that coach was right. Tall guys usually use only defensive footwork and don’t spam punches with the same hand in combos Will note that 🤝
Alexey Frolov says punches are too fast to react to with a slip and instead slips should be used pre-emptively to make the head an evasive target and close the distance. Any thoughts?

Yes, he is right. You will make your opponent miss more if you do defensive moves even before he starts attacking

How to do pre-emptive slips properly? I do them but I ended up getting timed.

Speaking of Alexi Frolov, I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding why after throwing the Anchor punch/ Soviet jab why it is necessary to perform a jump when executing the right cross and not simply perform the right cross without the jump which I think would be more efficient. The only logical conclusion I can draw is that after throwing the anchor punch/ Soviet jab the feet are in such an awkward position that it requires a jump to be able to execute the cross properly. Can Andrii or anyone else provide some insights? Any constructive feedback is greatly appreciated!

@@nomad4699try to be arhythmic while preemptively using head movement. if youre constantly moving and slipping like a metronome, your patterns will be easily read and thus easily timed. switch up the rhythm of your head movement, keep your guard up so you do not take damage if opponent times you, and constantly move your feet as well. you feet will allow you to move your opponent which makes their feet out of position and that does two things, not allowing them to throw their punches correctly if they bite to early, and throw them off time due to having to set their feet to correctly throw their punches. which allows your head movement to be more effective
Can you make a video on how to change speed and timing with the jab? Beginners have a tendency to throw their jab at the same speed and with the same timing. This allows the opponent to get a read of their rhythm and time them with a counter punch. This is my favourite boxing channel on KZread by far. Keep up the great work 👍

it gives you a better chance, but you must have a good 400m sprint as back up because people do not fight fair in the streets
