I noticed you used standard acrylic caulk on the lower area of the door. I would suggest using a urethane sealant such as NP 1 available at most roofing supply houses or Hardware Stores, Quad which is available at Home Depot, Stampede which is a Sherwin Williams Paint Co. brand. There are probably others. I have found it stays very flexible and stretches' a lot when dry. Great for things that vibrate or move a lot when traveling. It will stay attached much longer than an acrylic due to it being more flexible over time. Definitely stay away from silicone in areas that get warm, sunlight, or things that might not let it stay attached due to the slickness of the structure.

Love it! Impressed by your attention to detail. All those little things take a long time to build, but give a much better product in the end. It's too bad that door didn't come with a sliding screen for buggy locations, though.

@09:37 "nail lip" = flange @9:09 more water-absorbing glass insulation-yuk! (Rockwool in mine). @13:58 changing the Phillips screws to construction tapered square bit is recommended. Less chance for wallowing out screw head. Wood screws or metal self-tapping? @15:48 ""cross thingy majig" - cross brace For those of us without a table saw I recommend at the beginning of your build purchasing two 2"in. x 90'deg angle stock aluminum pieces 4'ft & 8'ft to use as straight edges for your circular saw. Used with clamps a perfectly straight cut every time. Afterwards, bracket material or to be utilized in your solar array or somewhere else (me I will be keeping intact). I am strongly considering a side slide-out 7'ft L x 2'ft W (depth) x 7'ft Tall. OEM hardware...cost ~$1-1.5k. Slideout purpose= couch opposite 4-5'ft desk. Mine being designed for full-time. Looking for good YT DIY vids, none really.....yet.

I think I'll do a slide out on my next one. Problem is designing it so that it doesn't make the inside too unusable when you're in stealth mode, but that only applies if you're considering stealth.

With a door that big, you can get a bike through it and store it in the living space. I like that compared to having a garage. No inflexibility for the storage space.

That would be a viable option for a weekend camper or adventure van - this is designed to be a long-term mobile apartment, so internal space is being maximized. The uhaul has LOT of undercarriage space that can be utilized for storage.

wonder how healthy that is to be increased in OSB that's made up of glued together wood fragments, never want to use a lot of glue in a confined space since glue will continue to put of toxins in the air. Your videos are great to learn how to make one of these my goal is to buy a box truck and convert it so I can save money to get dental work done only way I can see myself saving up $9K is to live out of one of these for awhile. Answered my own question While plywood and OSB both off-gas formaldehyde, OSB off-gasses more of the carcinogenic gas. Plywood, OSB, and other engineered wood products that contain glue can be stored outdoors for several weeks before construction so that much of the dangerous gasses are vented safely into the outdoors.

The same people who go on about needing windows everywhere are the same who have them covered with curtains most of the time for privacy or to keep the light out and then get cooked out of their van from all the heat gain from those windows :) That youtube worthy view is fantastic until you realise that most of the views you will have during van life are something you would rather not see, I just go outside when I want a view. I wanted a full glass sliding door at the back of my truck like yours until I realised if the door isn't centred where your "hallway" is then you can't build on the left and right wall the whole length of the truck. Its also why my layout is the opposite to yours, kitchen and bathroom at the back left /right of my entry and then my living space, then the bed over the cab.

I wouldn't even consider a uhaul if you're concerned about MPG. Empty they get 11-13 at best. It's a V10 triton engine that can not only haul a big load but also tow a car. I measure my mileage in TPG, or turtles killed by polution-per-gallon. It's in the high 30's.

The sliding glass door has survived over 2,500 miles so far with no significant issues. Only issue is that sometimes the moving door will bump itself off the "track" making it harder to slide. Takes a quick 5 seconds to lift it back onto the track when it happens.
