True readers digest old story. A vets office had a strict policy about cats being in carriers in the waiting room. One day A vet saw a client in the waiting room with 2 cats. One on her lap and one in a proper carrier. When he informed the owner the loose cat had to be on a carrier she laughed and told he "this cat is fine as is, he hates carriers and won't go in one. I dare you to try to put him on one!". The vet took the dare, got a carrier, got the cat, and went into an office. 30 seconds later a curse word was heard. 45 seconds later more cursing and loud chaos was heard. 2 mins later the vet left the office disheveled, cut to bits, and carrying a surprisedly calm cat. He handed the lady her cat and flatly told her "her cat really disliked carriers". Cat was excepted from the carrier rule after that...not banned since he was very mellow, unless shown a carrier.

And once he realizes that he's not going back in the carrier until after his appointment's over, he just starts quivering all over, burrows his head into my arm and starts meowing pitifully! I know it needs to be done, but BOY do I feel like a monster during the process! :( The only thing that he likes about going is that the clinic I take him to gives him a small packet of his favorite treats once the visit is over! It always cheers him up in a flash!

4 weeks late but make the cage your cat's bed,feeding area,put toys inside. More positive association about the cage than negative ones. Occasionally close the door too and carry it around.

I'm sure she's perfectly healthy - her behaviour otherwise is normal - the carrier only comes out once in a while so it's isolated behaviour... I think it's more likely what +Ninchennase said, that she wants to move out!! Actually, she's a house cat so I imagine she sees it as a way to get outside.

Its actually pretty darn easy to get a cat into its carrier. Pick kitty up. Turn kitty around and put kitty in butt first. By the time kitty realizes whats happened, kitty is in and you've closed it.

I always chase my cats to the window. They feel safe there and for some reason they don't understand that they're trapped between the curtain and the window. It's then easy to just move the carrier towards them and they just have no choice but the walk in. But the sounds they make! Holy hell, if the devil was real, thats the sound I imagine he makes.

Recently my cat was at the vets and had to go back to get his stitches removed. As soon as the vet removed the stitches my cat walked back into the cat cage and lied down. He was like, "take me home now".

+JellybellyWaffles Do you mean the thin, rectangular thing the cat hides under? That's called a placemat. It goes under the place setting, (plate, utensils, drink) to try and protect the table or tablecloth underneath from spills because it's easier to clean.

Simon captures the true essence of owning and caring for a cat. All of us can certainly relate. What has worked for us is to incorporate the carrier as part of the cats' surroundings, leaving their favorite toys nearby and leaving it open. Now they go in and out like a cave and put no real significance as to its true purpose...but that's from years of experience. Thank you Simon for sharing your gift with us!

A big tip to all cat owners: 1. Take a box that is opened on the top, not on the side. It's much less stressful for the cat. 2. Let the box stand around in your house all the time for them to lay there. They won't associate "taking out the box" with "driving away/to the vet" as strong.

I love how you catch every nuance of a cat. It is so fun to watch your cartoons. My favorite parts are "shaking" something off their back legs! Such a funny thing! And there's SO many little cat things I couldn't even count! I think cats are real comedians! I love to watch funny cats in real life, too. Thanks for the laughs!!

Getting my cats in their crates is simple. I use them everyday to feed them. They sometimes sit in them with the door open and watch as I move around the room.

As a cat breeder I appreciate everything Simon is going through here. I had one particular cat years ago who was so afraid of the vet; as I carried him through the vet's door he would do a poo in the box. He did it every time!

I have 3 cats, and when it's time for their vet appointments this is EXACTLY what happens. And they're smart enough to know if I'm getting up to take them to the vet or go to work.

I have a soft sided carrier that I use for my 17.3 pound cat. I leave it out on the sofa with the top open. He sleeps in it during the day. So he doesn't mind when I put him in it for a visit to the vet. Of course, closing the top is a different story altogether.

LOL went through this yesterday with Beanie, as soon as he saw the carrier he was like "Oh F no!"

I swear, my cat Puddin Pie (if you saw her Buddha belly, you'd understand the name lol) must've watched this video, because she is exactly like Simon's cat. To get her in the carrier, I have to wrap her completely in a beach towel and put her in, then pull the towel out through the holes in the side. It's a psychological battle. My appointments are always right after work, so I don't have any time to lose getting them in the crate. If mine see the crate or hear it, they dive into a hiding place which means I'm going to be late for the vet. So, you have to act like nothing's up. Normal behavior and conversation, just like any other day. Next you prepare the carrier for entry in another room where the cat can't see it or hear it (the door squeaks on mine and it's enough to let the cat know something's up). Make sure the door is wide open. Then go back to non-chalant behavior. When your cat gets close to you during normal activity, pick them up and march then straight into the crate. If you do it quickly, they won't know what hit them. Or you could just get a Cat In a Bag, which none of my cats have a problem with being stuffed into AND they don't howl all the way there and back.

This reminds me of what it was like to try getting my Sunshine into his carrier when he was younger. Now that he is seventeen, he doesn't fight as much but he still yowls up a storm.

If I'm honest, Simon's cat, video's are the only videos on youtube, I can never, ever give a thumbs down, not only are they great, funny, but 99% of the videos are so true, and I'm sure as cat lovers, myself as one of them can related to these, not to mention I love the characters, and as each video is uploaded, they get better and better, Love simon's cat.

0:54 - Cat: "YOU get in the kennel!" 1:55 - Simon: "You're GOING TO THE VET!" 1:58 - Cat: "okay." Kitten: "We'll talk later."

My boy, Cooper, is a wild man when it comes to going to the vet. He actually seems to think he has to fight for his life, and has been invited not to come back, even for a nail trim, without being sedated first. I am sure the vet and his staff (who's a great vet) don't believe me when I tell them that he sits on my lap at home,sleeps next to me, lets me pet him. In fact he doesn't bite and scratch UNLESS he is "handled" or restrained in any way. I can't imagine why he's this way in view of the fact that he was hand-raised and bottle fed from about a week old. Vet says "It's just his personality". I love him to pieces !

Still waiting for the vet episode.
