Bowling Skill (1940) - Lawn Bowling, Duckpins, Tenpins
Спорт
This classic 1940 film short depicts various aspects of "bowling," including Lawn Bowling, outdoor Duckpins (at a fashionable Hollywood outdoor duckpins establishment) and, of course, indoor "Tenpins" bowling.
Part of the Grantland Rice Sportlight series.
No copyright infringement is intended here. Just wanted to share this historic glimpse into bowling's past. Some truly remarkable images here, not to mention the quaint narration that would be considered politically incorrect today for its sexism. But hey, it was, after all, 1940.
Also, some of the trick shots shown here, which seem new to the modern generation when they're done on TV by today's pros, were, as is plainly evident in this film short, originated decades ago by the pioneers of the sport, most of whom had a good deal more showmanship than the pretty-boy, spoiled-brat pros of today.
Narrated by the legendary Ted Husing. For those who don't know, Husing was one of the pre-eminent sports announcers in the 1930s and '40s. Chris Schenkel once credited Husing as being his idol when he first got into sports broadcasting.
