Bowhunting Training
Before the hunt you have to make sure every of your arrows will hit right,
Practice!
A trad archer knows about this high responsibility. How close should I be for the perfect shoot.
Watch Henry training for his 2019 UP whitetail bowhunt.
Of course

Thanks for sharing Henry. I was hunting white tails this morning. Saw 5, all a bit to far so i did not shoot. I shoot only if I am sure to do an ethical shot, nothing cost more than regrets ;)

Went out with my Shrew Bow! Hunted last year with my Mohawk Chief Hybrid in UP.
I sure couldn't get in or out of that stand like that now. years ago, I wanted to get better at focusing on my targets, especially a smaller spot. Spent a month shooting flu flus at bugs, bees and wasps on clover. At first it was from a foot or so away while the insect was on the clover. then as I mastered that shot, I simply backed up a foot or so and contiued my practice. I would occasionally step back closer to refresh my brain. I did this until I could shoot one from 25-30 feet with ease. Then began shooting them before they would land from various distances, they best I could do was 8 in a row. Shooting a squirrel was like shooting a basketball, hard to miss. my shooting skills jumped up greatly as did my harvesting from small game to large. I have since used dried beans and peas to do the same thing in training my brain (had some brain damage so had to retrain.) Walking around and shooting grasshoppers that are alive and moving is another awesome way to learn how to focus on a smaller spot. loved the video
Hi Henry, thank you for your verry educational video's, i learned allready a lot! What bows do U use for the practice or hunt and wich drawweights? Kind regards from the Belgian Ardennes and stay healty! Yves. PS: i shoot your Bodnik Hunter Stick in 35Lbs, fantastic bow!!!

Hello, thanks for your comment and feedback. Shooting a 52 or 54" Shrew Classic Hunter for myself. I do love the short hybrid hunting bows. All bows are around 50 lbs at my fingers. Shooting around 50 lbs during the last 30 years. Just take a look at the Shrew Bows models. All built by my bowyers at Bodnik Bows: shrewbows.com/
Is there a reason for the format of your feathers Henry ?

My arrow builder mentioned to me trying this shape, length and set up. Basically I‘m controlling my arrow with my points.
Hi Henry. I ordered a classic hunter two 52" inch at 43 pounds. My draw is 28 1/2. What arrows do you recommend for hunting large body sized deer? I already Is purchased your 200 grain broadheads.... With that being said, what Spine, insert and total arroweight for maximum penetration with this set up Do you recommend??? Thank you in advance.

Always pleased to see your content. I must say though that I am opposed to bow hunting. IMO there is only one excuse to hunt, that is that there is no other choice to provide food and then only using a rifle....all the so called "clean kills" that I have seen with a bow has led to a blood trail. With a well aimed rifle the prey drops dead on the spot due to the cavitation of the round damaging all the vitals and arteries in the area as the bullet passes through. Hunting here in the uk is very restricted, especially for large game..and in all events a bow is prohibited. Large game is only shot for culling purposes (to provide a naturally sustained stock level) and even then only in the company of a highly trained game keeper.

Accepting your meaning and fully understand. Think especially in hunting it’s pretty difficult to discuss facts between hunters and nonhunters. I‘m not hunting with rifle at all. Only with bow and arrow. Only traditional. But of course I fully understand your statement.
@trashpanda2396

With a well placed shot both are deadly. A bad shot outside of the vitals leads to a wounded animal with both rifle or bow.

It's funny to me when English people criticise the USA hunting policies. The policies in the US are clearly working much better than the UK. All things can always been improved but they are leaps ahead of us.
@villagevillage2400

@@jamesbailand4311 I am also from the UK and have little idea why bowhunting is illegal - I feel it would fit right into what is a relatively sophisticated hunting scene. Poachers might use them but then poaching already happens. You could have training courses for safety as they do in Denmark. The really crazy thing is that archery used to be the UK's national sport and No. 1 national pastime, and now you can't even take a pigeon or a bunny for the pot!
Go get that venison. Good luck with that!
