As a Baptist I really want to encourage EVERYONE to read the Heidelberg catechism. It is absolutely amazing. It will help you to preach the gospel to yourself.

Concur. All the 3 forms of Unity are much more pastoral than their English counterparts.
I'm a member in a CRC church in Iowa. Though I am a Baptist, my pastor and I have fun with it and it is such a great church. Praying that Synod stays with God's word this year.
As someone who grew up in the Dutch reformed church, I cannot say how excited I am for this one
I lived right down the street from vriesman!
Excellent show Keith. As a PCA Presby, I love the Westminster, 3 forms of Unity, Irish Chronicles, Scottish Confession, etc.. I subbed to their podcasts as well.
@22:00 I agreed with Jason about reading Romans 9 and once you see it you can’t unsee it.
Looking forward to this after growing up around crc folks in holland Michigan
I forgot to mention CRC besides having Women Pastors. It also allows women to be Elders and Deacons and Commissioned Pastor.

None of these three churches have women serving in any of those roles (in fact, around 50% of the 1k churches in our denomination do not have women serving in any office).

@@lloydhemstreet3226 I was not saying that women serve in large numbers in CRC . In 1995 the CRC allowed Congregations to Ordain Women in all the Church offices including Deacon, Elder, Commisioned Pastor and Minister of The Word. My point was CRC is not as Conservative as other Denominations.

That was a big thing to leave out when asked what makes the CRC different the OPC and PCA. This was very deceitful.

In the Dutch Reformed tradition, the URC is the closest to the OPC
We need a Mick Foley denomination in your Denomination meetings. It will be called the "Reformed Big Eva Wrestlers" because remember If You Love Jesus You Will Wrestle Arminians.
I’m in the URC. The CRC is less conservative than the URC (which is more like the OPC). However, the CRC is better now than it was 10 years ago. I really hope one day we can join again. If the CRC would remove women’s eldership I would be for it.
Very interesting episode learning about the CRC. Thanks as always!
Great conversation! Alot i didnt know.
I heard that if you ain’t Dutch you ain’t much, but I can’t help it. I’m PCA😂
On the denominations/persnickety thing...I agree denominations are a good thing and don't think we split over too minor issues (with some exceptions), but where I think we get this pattern wrong is, we are too unwilling to cooperate with other groups with which we have minor differences. When I listen to gentlemen like these, I am fully willing to cooperate with them on evangelism and on being salt/light in the culture, even though I have differences with them on some theological issues (I'm a credobaptist, for example). I wish we could work together on kingdom issues without compromising on our minor differences. The cultural push seems to be the opposite...compromise on your positions or cancel everyone who isn't exactly like you.

Agree: look at Luther and Zwingli, I believe God (obviously cus He is sovereign) had it be like this for a reason, because if not the Reformation could’ve immediately died, but because Luther was so adamant against Zwingli’s questionable sacramental theology Zwingli and the reformers got killed by the Catholics in battle. If Luther was willing to still support Zwingli and the Swiss- lives could’ve been saved.
Hypothetically, if I were to start a cult and gain enough members, could I get on a bow tie dialogue?

One of the best will be Bruce Gore's lectures on Church history. Cannot recommend him enough. Another is Ryan Reeves on Church history. Bruce's presentations are recorded from his Sunday school class presentations, while Professor Reeves' videos seem to be made with a more "KZread" friendly style presentation of slides. Both are excellent and will teach you loads. Blessings!

One thing that did not come up was the fact the CRC is no longer a member of the conservative NAPARC churches because they are a more liberal denomination which ordains women.

Should Reformed Baptists call themselves 1689 Baptists or particular Baptists?
@ReformedListener1689
Ай бұрын
They should call themselves Reformed Baptists...IF they're: A) Calvinistic B) Covenantal C) Confessional, and D) Amil or Postmil. If they are Calvinistic but don't meet the other criteria, then they're Calvinistic Baptists. If they meet the four criteria, then they're a Reformed Baptist. I would recommend Pastor Joel Webbon's short video on this.

@@ReformedListener1689 I'm not so sure that eschatological considerations should be included in being Reformed or not. Which of the reformers spoke at length about eschatology?
@savedbygrace7982
Ай бұрын
@@ReformedListener1689eschatology only plays a role in whether one is reformed or not when it comes to dispensationalism, and that is because it isn’t compatible with covenantal theology. You can be historic premillenialist and be reformed. Historically though, reformed has always meant paedobaptist as well. The Heidelberg calls credobaptism an abominable sin, and baptists never considered themselves reformed historically. I say this charitably-just clarifying the history of the term. 😊
The CRC is huge in my hometown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Growing up alongside CRC kids, I heard a distorted version of Covenant Theology. I had a girl tell me that the covenant made it so that one is saved by being raised in a Christian home. (God elects folks b/c they're Dutch? God forbid.) I don't think serious CRC people think this, but I got that false impression. Nevertheless, I remain deeply skeptical of Covenant Theology.

You remain deeply skeptical because you once heard what you admit is a “distorted version” of covenant theology from one person? Does that sound at all reasonable?

CRC denomination ackowledges women pastors, even if the local church pastor chooses not to have women elders. All the Bible studies, global missions have women teachers/pastors contributing to the content.They encourage Catholic unity. How sad the "reformed" verbiage doesn't apply.😢

The RFA affirms LGBTQ, and in our community the CRC is dissociating from them.
@lloydhemstreet3226
Ай бұрын
The CRC took a political solution to the question of Women serving as Elders/Pastors in the mid 1990's, making the official position that "Biblical arguments can be made both for and against Women Pastors," and so it is left up to each individual congregation. About 50% of the CRC congregations do not ordain women to offices in the church, with the others divided between only deacons, and others elders or even lead pastors. The URC/United Reformed Church that they mentioned split off of the CRC was over this issue and they do not ordain women at all.
