I love hearing Jordan talk about this. I lost my mom on 2017, and Ive been mad at myself because when I used to compete I never told my mom about when or where the races were because i was embarrassed by her and to this day I regret it. I mainly focused on 10k but had fun doing some halfs I always wanted to do a full marathon just to say I did, but now i want to do one and have my mom there in spirit so she can look down and watch.

I remember when she finished the boston marathon she started crying and said she ran for her mom. It was so sweet.

I am a fan of Jordan Hasay and i was watching the video with happiness until someone star to cutting onions when I saw her with her mom and dad. My best wishes always for Jordan Hasay and a sincere wish of hope that she can achieved all the goals she has in her mother's memory.

Thank you for always taking the time to say hi to my friend Joe Mallon over the years while you were getting ready for your races. The kindness that you showed my friend Joe is something I noticed about you.

I always begin at the beginning. The first stories I heard about Jordan was that she would run a home made course that began in her driveway and ended in her driveway. No coach, no formal training, she just did it on her own. She came to Mt SAC and owned it first time out. Down the road she ran a winning 3200 at Arcadia. Her mother and I were both there. Got a high five from Teresa that day! A couple of wins at the FootLocker, 3200 champ all four years of high school, junior year 9:52 against Laurynne Chetelat PhD UC Davis, who was just a third of a second behind her. There was another beginning that was nearly identical to Jordan's. Melody Fairchild from Boulder, Colorado, well before Jordan's day. She ran a home-made course through her neighborhood at age 10. The first girl to break 10 in the two-mile, two wins in a row at the FootLocker (called the Kinney Cross Country Championships in those earlier years). They both ran for the University of Oregon and Melody is still a masters runner today in Colorado. She was just inducted into the Oregon Hall of Fame, and I'm sure we'll all see Jordan follow down that road. Both Melody and Jordan are one of a kind. They both are early bloomers, they both have performed well beyond their peers, and I feel it was a little tougher for Melody. The running community today is a lot smarter about nutrition, training, and certainly the equipment for both training and running has improved dramatically. But I have enjoyed watching Jordan from those early days when I was coaching a junior high team myself. I have learned to have the patience of Job, as the Bible says. Just wait and you won't be disappointed. She is surrounded by a wealth of knowledge in Rupp, Salazar, her dad, fellow runners and friends. Taking nothing away from Michael Jordan, she really is "Air Jordan." I may be wrong but I think it was Rich Gonzalez who pinned that name on her, probably when he was calling a FootLocker race. So it's 11:30PM and in a half hour it will be my birthday, #71! I will consider this video, in a small way, kind of a birthday present. I'm really enjoying it!

This was wonderfully done, and so nice to see Ms. Hasay captured so well. She is such a treasure, and such a wonderful person. We, who live in the community she grew up in, absolutely adore her. About 5 or 6 years ago I was at the local swap meet and a beautiful pair of shoes caught my eye at a seller's booth. They turned out to be a custom made pair of red, white, and blue, Nike distance spikes, that had been made especially for Ms. Hasay. They had her name embroidered vertically up the heel. I had a daughter on the local HS XC and Track team, so I purchased them, knowing how special they were. I wasn't intending to keep them, or have my daughter race in them. I just wanted to get them back to Ms. Hasay, and her family, figuring that they probably didn't belong just sitting out at the swap meet. I'm not a fan of social media, but I made a twitter acc't and sent Ms. Hasay a message, offering to return the shoes to her parents (or her) who still lived locally. I felt like a stalker doing that, but I just thought they might have liked her racing shoes back. Ms. Hasay responded very kindly, that we could keep them, and when she was in town, she'd be happy to sign them. My daughter was training on the local college track a few months later, and saw Ms. Hasay, who was kind enough to wait for my daughter to go home, grab the shoes, and return! The shoes garnered a lot of compliments, and my daughter raced in them with pride, her entire 4yrs of HS, both before and after they were signed. Ms. Hasay continues to inspire local runners, especially the young ladies.

Almost Birthday time everyone. Jordan's is soooooo easy to remember, 9/21, ten days after 9/11. Hoping she's still on schedule for the Chicago Marathon next month. I think I know what her goal is at Chicago. Let's see if everyone else can pick up on it during the race.
