Bottle Feeding Newborn Kittens

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

These tiny newborns were discovered by staff clearing hedges at a local dump. They disturbed the mother who ran away but they knew what she looked like and therefore were able to trap her and she was happily reunited with her kittens. In the meantime, I had to feed them for the first 24hrs which was very tricky due to how tiny they were. They are the youngest kittens I've had to bottle feed. Apparently, it's not a good technique to hold them on their backs, I've been told (I learned from the community here) --- so don't use that as a role model!
I've since ordered online a silicone kitten feeder that can feed 4 kittens at once.
Adoptions are only available in New Zealand: Please email oncewewerewild@gmail.com.
Feeding, vet bills and taking care of these cats while they find their forever homes is an ongoing cost, so donations are gratefully accepted! Donations can be made through Pay Pal (search: oncewewerewild@gmail.com).

I found my kittie in the street, no mom, could fit in the palm of my hand, fed her by bottle. Still have her.

I'm on day 17 of fighting for a kittens life. The mother was too young (homeless) to handle them and just left them, refusing to even go near them. Two died on day 3 and 4, the last one is several days overdue to open its eyes and has constant eye infections, I fear it will be blind. This is hell.

I really feel for you. Taking on rescues is both pleasure and pain. Have you asked a vet about the eye infections? An old remedy was to bathe the eyes with milk, how well it works, I don't know. You can only do your best, and I was very lucky on this occasion that I managed to get mine back onto their mother. Keep trying, I absolutely admire you for at least trying.

@@oncewewerewildnz He actually opened his left eye earlier today. The right, no idea, but I bathe them with some antibiotics for eyes, from an earlier cat's ills. Then again, he wriggles so much that feeding him basically bathes his eyes with kitten milk, anyway, so you may be on to something! It is hell, and always will be. But better my hell than theirs. That is the thought that keeps me going, most of the time.

Yes, thank you, and many other people in the comments section have also pointed this out and I acknowledge everyone's input. The cord was completely dry however, so no harm there in cutting it. I definitely wouldn't if it was fresh.

It is so good to see these kittens are doing so well, and thriving. It's awesome to watch them grow. You have done amazing work! And very lucky you found mum. Bit of a learning curve with them that small!

Never bottle feed kittens leaning backwards. They can aspirate milk into their lungs & get pneumonia. They should be upright, preferably on all fours. Kitten Lady on You Tube has won awards for hervrescue work with kittens. She is the oracle on kitten care, esoecially newbien or sick ones.

Please study Kitten Lady's channel to learn how to deal with kittens. Don't snip the cord, don't feed them on their backs, do keep them warm, etc. I'm sure you want to do better if there is a next time. Thanks!
