Ok, so I’m a guy and I always end up in situations where a female coworker tries to boss me around. I must admit I react the wrong way as if I’m threatened. If it were a guy it wouldn’t bother me, I’d call it out and it would be done with it. Any ideas?

Unfortunately these types of people end up in management positions making life nightmare for everyone. They are unskilled, uneducated, lack people skills, bad tempered, two faced and baised. I encountered one of these recently, she liked to act as a go between for the manager, so that she could hand out the managers orders, which of course you couldn't refuse. In the managers presence, if he asked someone to do something, she would parrot his request half a second later, and again it would appear as though you're doing her bidding. She had no common sense and questionable intelligence, she used to fall apart when asked difficult questions or if you pointed out a request was impossible, she must have picked this stuff up in a book or something.

I'm having this problems now. This co workers is close to all the managers. I can lie she one of the top workers in the business. Bosses love her work performance. What she does to get power over employees. Ask the bosses to help the employees with they work performance. In reality she just bossing people around acting like a fake supervisor. She know how to get permission to help employees. If you don't listen to her she tell the boss. And play Victim like the person is being disobedient giving her a hard time. Most times bosses take her side. Then you look like a bad lazy worker. When she pretending to help you just to find wrong. Also as well be a control freak. They very good at winning mangers over. Even the managers the employees hate. You right some read books to learn to over power people. And some just are naturally manipulative. At my job now. I fight against the fight bossy co worker with pretending to be deaf. I get snitch on. However when the real boss tell me do my job I do it respectly. I'm trying teach her in a quite way. I only listen to boss. Sometimes it works however she will come back weeks or months. Trying to control me.

It's a lot harder as I work in a retail setting and I can't escape her when we are rostered together. I feel like turning around and saying: "Girl, you aren't getting paid to be the manager. Just stop!" 😂 I'm proud that I haven't gotten angry or snapped yet, but I've gotten close and I think many others have as well. There is also no chance of any promotion for her as there is only one manager at the store and he owns the store too, so I have no idea what she's playing at! Perhaps it is just a personality thing. I definitely feel like the boss loves her because she does his job for him and she gets far more shifts that everyone else. Hoping to leave the role soon because it doesn't suit where I want go career wise and she drives me bonkers! 😂

this has happened to me recently.... my coworker has been promoted to be the supervisor of our front desk staff. I am clinical staff so she has NO business getting bossy but it IS bleeding into our area. I think she is trying to be assertive, but it is coming off as treating others as if they don't know their job (all of us has done this much longer than she has). It's not giving tasks, it's more like critiquing the way we do our job. For YEARS we have all worked well together and step a fine line in challenging anyone's method of getting a job done, and never intervene unless it is a safety issue. Since she has taken on this extra duty, it is really affecting our teamwork, and most on the team pretty much want to keep her at arms length. I am saddened that she is turning this way, as I like her as a person. I have decided to keep my mouth shut about it, because I am leaving soon and I don't need the friction.

It always depends *how* the person is bossy for me. If the person is really disrespectful and belittling, then I have a problem with it. If they're more collaborative and have experience, then that's fine. Most of the time the person is being really disrespectful. As mentioned below, usually the bossy person is a favorite and the resident control freak as well so you're not allowed to complain about *how* they are 'managing' you.

I actually experienced a bossy coworker very recently and it's been going on for a few weeks. I was thinking of all the things I wanted to tell her based on how I was raised and what I was always taught. I then watched your video and a few videos before and actually thought of what to "perfessionally" per say to tell her. Maybe something along the lines of like "I am glad you are concerned about my job, and I am super glad you've became a crew leader, you really do work really hard. But I have been here since this morning and I understand you just clocked in. Since my shift is almost over, I would like to take the last couple of hours of my shift to calm down from the busy day I have had. Please and thank you."

There was one guy I couldn't stand working with because he was very bossy at first and I and pretty told him never to talk down to me ever again. Despite this, we both got annoyed by customers who would not give us their undivided attention and stand in front of the meat counter on their phones, when undivided attention to customer service was key. Subway workers don't like whenever customers are on their phones while ordering. It's just rude. That was the only bossy coworker I came across, but it was resolved overnight. When I look back, I was pretty easygoing, patient, and easy to work with. That patience didn't extend to people who called in sick all the time or had poor work ethics.

But I’m the one labeled as the young inexperienced one that doesn’t work hard enough. It’s well known she also talks really bad about the bosses but the bosses have no guts to drop her ass.

What I personally tend to say, is 'my wife is my boss'. It's the truth, and it also contains humour enough to dissolve or de-escalate tension. It also gets the message across without being nasty about it. As far as someone dumping tasking on you 'sorry, I'm busy', is simple honesty.

It sounds like her insecurity is very deep and very obvious. The bossyness is compensating for her lack of self-esteem; she is creating external validation through her behavior to feel better about herself. But since the authority isn't sincere, and it's actually destructive to her self-esteem because it makes people dislike her, the cycle continues. Have as much empathy as possible. She is trying to drag you down to her level, do your best to maintain yours - and even to lift her up. I often find with people like this that a little kindness and acknowledgement goes a really long way (unless they're toxic, in which case a whole other approach is needed)

Hello Jennifer, what do you do if that co-worker's job is to give out assignments to you, and it is your job to take that and do it. But she did it with a condescending tone, and if you make faux-pas, because you haven't learn that step before? she corrected you using a superior tone like it was your fault, or that you did it on purpose. She also alienated you by being friendly with others people while treating you like an inferior in front of other people. Since she is in a position of "power', without actually being designated as your boss, she was able to isolate you from other co-workers who too happy to gang up with her to bully you the same way.

I am assuming that you are a kind, sensitive soul, always smiling and easy going. This is why you're being mistreated. I suggest learning to love and respect yourself, as well as setting boundaries. It's tough, but I'm learning to say NO and to speak up right away to bullies, whether at work or otherwise. I work in hospitality so I may need something a little more punchy and straight to the point. I have worked most of my life in bars, I am 41, this little girl (25) thinks she needs to tell me what to do 😂😂 when we are FLAT OUT, I start doing back up roles because none of the young people seem to understand the importance of making sure we are keeping on top of glasses, lemons and limes and ice. So they serve people and then work in reaction mode. I work my ASS off, I work 8hrs straight on my feet NO BREAKS and have a very strong work ethic. I really don’t need to be told what to do 😂 funny thing is when there is no one at the bar they just stand around talking and eating instead of doing recovery before we get hit again.

I just recently started a new job and one of my co-workers has only been employed for 4 months prior to me, and she acts like she's everyone's manager because she came from management background in the nursing field for the past 15 years so she thinks she can walk into a new company and act like she's the boss of everybody. It's crazy because my first day she trained me she talked s*** about some of the other co-workers who supposedly there was talk going back and forth and she kept running her mouth about people to me on my first day on the job meeting me. Needless to say she never really actually trained me because she wanted to take control over the job itself instead of having me actually do it so I can learn. I feel like it was a manipulating way of keeping me at a lower stance than her in the job itself. Basically a type of sabotage towards me. Last week I stood my ground and asked her politely if she actually wants to train me or not, and she didn't like that question and took offense and and now treats me as if I'm a lower standard than her. I don't understand why we let people like that get away with being that way. There's much more to my story but I'm only on my second week of the job and I'm sure I'll be expecting more to come from her.

I have experience this today and genuinely wanna know a way to deal with this I’m putting this bellow for advice only nothing more. I work in a daycare and this co worker joined in not long ago I was still new though but she work in the area I’m in for 2 months. At first we were pretty chill but then all of sudden one day she stop talking to me all together there were many reason I think could be why but I decided not to push it and leave her be. And only interact with her unless it’s work related but recently some reason she decided to start bossing me around ordering me to do stuff it was mellow at first but it got to the point that she was looking down on me. One example is today. I have a broken mop that what I believe is unfixable. It was still useable and my boss is okay with me still using it. However all of a sudden this co worker stoped me start somewhat scolding me (not yelling) about the broken mop, I tried to explain to her it’s broken but instead she just say “Well if ‘another co worker name’ can fix it why can’t you? That’s not a good excuse” I just felt really hurt from that.. but I’m also scared confronting other upper coworkers and my boss about it because they like her a lot. I kept thinking I’m overreacting but that back my mind said it would had been nice if she just help me instead of saying that.

What's worse is when all the workers complain about the same employee, but the " manager," is so incompetent that she won't handle the employee because she fears that the problem employee will think she's taking sides. I quit a job because of this. I just couldn't. This girl was running everyone away and it wasn't until I quit and the students( it was a school) complained about her constantly that my manager was forced to do something. ... I wish I could say the girls name but it would make to obvious but if you're in NC you might be working with her. 😂

2:37 The reason this behavior bothers me is, yes, I do feel disrespected and undermined, like my age and experience hold no merit and they think I’m some low IQ invalid who will follow the marching orders of the lowest in command… which is our same level. I respect when my real boss gives me a task. I even respect when a veteran employee guides me to do something as a newbie. What I do not respect is the one(s) in charge delegating the ones at my exact level in the job to give me tasks. That is humiliating and so very disrespectful.

Say to them," please reach out to the manager If you have any questions or concerns." It let's them know that they shouldn't even be reaching out to you! In a professional way without you getting in trouble you're simply reminding them to talk to the manager if they have an issue with how you handle your work ethic. 9 times outta 10 they won't talk to the manager about you because they aren't a damn manager. Kinda similar to reverse psychology at its bestb

Honestly if someone was bossing me around, I'd tell them "F***you"!!!! That'll scare them. I'm going to show in not soft. You think that's appropriate?

Yes a coworker once tried to overstep where I could (potentially, I mean in real time) be able to engage with clients more. I already felt lots of "quota" stress, was trying to constantly multi-task and on top of all that already I wasn't against team player-ing as I did that vehemently myself or should I say I was gun-ho out'dd (double d for the 'ed effect)

What about a situation where your boss is trying to run the site remotely from another site. Hasn't put anyone in charge in his absence...and coworkers think they know what's best to do and boss you around. My thought is to say...I'm busy with my work currently. If you get our actual boss to call me qnd tell me to switch tasks to what you're telling me to do...I'm all for it. But only after the person in charge actually tells me to. No offense...but you can't exercise authority you do not have

I dont care about a bossy coworker, i can say thank you and just go about my day but it sucks when its them off loading their tasks on you that they get paid to do and they are the bossy favorite. Its a toxic combo I am dealing with. I am looking for another job because I realize there is no fix for this. In the meantime I dont let my ego get bruised and keep working minding my own business.
