Borrowed Time for WNYP's Widebody GEs
Ойын-сауық
The first Monday of June 2024 started off on a muggy note as Western New York & Pennsylvania's Salamanca Turn departed their yard in Olean, NY and made the trek along the former Erie mainline to Salamanca to work the interchange with the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad! Yet while today seemed like a normal day, the winds of change have been blowing for this shortline railroad for a few months now, with a drastic change in traffic resulting in stretches of their rail lines being placed out of service, as well as their GE fleet being reduced from eight to four, which are on borrowed time as they too will be leaving the property soon!

Delmarva Central RR also uses LED ditch lights on their fleet
the LA&L is going tier 4 compliment. so is B&H and WNYP. LAL 20 and 72 have been donated to the Rochester and Genesee Valley Railroad Museum.

@@user-mr3ct1dm9p they are going to get EMD 4 axle geeps for the LAL and B&H railroad. WNYP is going to 4 axles. They might get 6 axle EMD’s.
Give them to Union Pacific or something or maybe send to a railroad museum at least why waist great power especially these big beast AC6000CW's
Are They Going To Keep The Alcos?

Nope, those are going too (just don't ask me where they're going, cuz I don't know). Their whole fleet is eventually going to be replaced with Geeps.

@@mattygunn693well that’s f***ing depressing
What a sad waste. They spent all that time and money refurbishing the AC6000's, then they have to get rid of them after 5 years! I'm wondering what will happen to them, but I'm assuming they'll be scrapped.

Yeah tell me about it, I was hoping to catch more Emporium and Driftwood runs with these beasts too. Damn shame. From what I read, they're apparently going back to GECX, though I'm unsure of their fate once they get there (or wherever it is they're going).

@@mattygunn693 I've only ever gotten photos of them at Olean. I had always hoped to do a proper chase of them at some point, but I guess I missed my chance. I'm more worried about the future of the WNY&P as a whole, along with the ALCO's. Hopefully they go to good homes instead of being mercilessly scrapped like the LA&L's.

I guess the DL won't be far behind. I can't understand then why they purchased the 4 or 5 M630's that once ran on the Cartier Mining RR in Canada.

@@jimkelton4052The D-L and other GVT subsidiaries won't be affected by this at all; it was the decision of the LA&L (WNYP's parent company) to upgrade their fleets.

@@TrainsAreReallyCoolahh man, that sucks to hear! I'm concerned about the railroad's future too, and as for the Alcos, I'm hoping at least the C430s will go to another railroad and kept in service with how rare they are.
