Wow. This bought back some memories I was stationed at RAAF in the 60 and spent some time on detachment to Labuam and Kuching with 52Sqn doing air supply drops. I was grounf crew but did go on one or two " drops" to a our army lads in their forts near the borders. Many many thanks for posting

Great video! Thank you! Cheers from an old B-52 RC-135 mechanic... I'm building a model of a Javelin I bought while visiting the Jersey Islands. Hard work those fellow did !

Wonderful memories. I was at Tengah, ('63 - '66) in ATC and the War Room. 60 and 64 Sqns, Javelins and 20 Sqn Hunters, 81 Sqn Canberras (Sunshine Airways - they had a contract with the Indonesian Gov't to do aerial survey flights !) I was rotated to Labuan where the Javs and Hunters had a detachment. What a magical place Borneo was for a young 19 y/o lad who had barely been out of Coventry.

Bob Austin I served as an Air Despatch crew commander July 1964- Jan 1965 at RAF Kutching and RAF Labuan. Flying out to DZs close to the Indonesian border we were often escorted by the Javelin. We flew on Hastings,Beverleys,Argosy,Valletta and Twin Pioneers carrying out air supply drops. RASC and RCT Army Air Despatch otherwise known as the Flying Grocer boys. Great reliving memories. Thanks Steve Waddington.

I served at Tangah in 61 when the first Jav's arrived until 63. I would have worked on all these aircraft as an armourer which has bought back many happy memories of my time with 60 squadron. The best two and a half years of my 16 years in the "mob!"

I Served on 60 Squadron 1963 to 1966 BASED at RAF Tengah Singapore with detachments at RAAF Butterworth, Kuching and Labuan. I was on the 1st detachment to Butterworth and Kuching as an Armourer. At one stage 60 was the largest Squadron in the RAF with extra aircraft ferried from the UK to enable the squadron to carry out its role as the only all weather night fighter squadron in the Far East. The CO at this time was Wing Commander J Frazer AFC

I was at Tengah 1965-1967. I was on 81PR Sqdn. We operated Canberra PR7's. Up the line from us was 45 Sqdn, the had Canberra B9's. Then there was 60 and 64 Sqdns operating Javelins and 20 Sqdn with Hunters. These were great days.

Nice to see this video, I'm a Malaysian that born in 1964 so I have no chance to see all this marvelous aircraft, namely my favourite Lightning, Javelin even Hunter. After RAF withdrawal from Malaysia, Buttterworth was become RAAF Base until the end of 80's. But I did saw a pair of Mirage IIIO flypast kuala Lumpur City in 70s. Now Butterworth AB still a base for RMAF MiG-29, Hornet and Hawk.

Just a small point or two. Butterworth was an RAAF base on mainland Malaya opposite Penang Island. RAF aircraft supported the RAAF Sabres there. The only RAF base on penang was an R&R holiday village at the Beach of Passionate Love.(local name !!) . 60 Sqn was based at Tengah. And Singapore was not 'on mainland Malaysia' as it is an Island itself.

The FAW9 actually had two panels in one for QRA purposes - the main underside panel had a smaller one built in - as you say "for fire watching"! I was on 64 Squadron(Binbrook) and 228 OCU(Leuchars) involved in one fire when I was called on to do Radio Compass checks during engine runs - the engine failed to start and pilot informed me to evacuate jet quickly if repeat failure. Second attempt was a failure and pilot was extinguishing the fire as I hit the ground! My time at Tengah was on Vulcans.

My father Rob Wooding (Flight Lieutenant RJ Wooding) flew both javelins and hunters in the 60s. I know he was based in Singapore. His best friend Dave Sumner was also out there as a pilot with him at the same time. Dave Sumner is my godfather and it was only yesterday he mentioned something about being out there at this very time when the SAS were on the ground. Unfortunately, my father passed away in 2015 so I can't ask him about it.

He'd have known my own father (Flt Lt 'Dinger' Dell) then. He was on 64 then 60 Sqn, getting his 2000 hours on the type, ejecting at least once and doing a 'one wheel up' landing on detachment to Kuching.

I was about to go on 48 hours’ notice in 1964 from Leuchars to, as it would have turned out, Labuan when somebody who had a routine posting too close to an unpleasant father asked me to exchange postings. I agreed to help him out and so he went to Malaysia and I elsewhere. (This was RAF not WRAF as I was still trying to be something the doctors had assured me I was but in fact wasn’t.) The unfair part of this was that on returning after two years my oppo found that he had missed promotion opportunities, and eventually left and started a second career.

Looks like a couple of views forward from the rear seat of a Meteor during the first minute. Trainer or night fighter? Thanks for posting, I like to see 1950s to '70s RAF footage.

I remember hearing Javelins night flying from RAF Odiham in the late fifties, with a most distinctive sound. Does anyone know if there are any sound recordings of Javelins available anywhere?
