I can't believe all the negative comments on here. This song was absolutely HUGE when it came out. It sounded like nothing else on the radio. Springsteen was a little known niche artist and then, with this song and this album, he just exploded. The E Street Band is legendary. When I see everybody saying "meh" I feel like I've landed on a strange planet.

This was an actually musically incredible album that garnered the Album Of The Year for 1975. This, like so many albums of this time, were meant to be heard from start to finish, and this is one of those albums - it’s just beautiful, and there’s no other album that sounds like it. A true original.

The lyrics are simply genius in she's the one. With her killer graces and her secret places that no boy can fill. with her hands on her hips oh and that smile on her lips because she knows that it kills me. With her soft French cream standing in that doorway like a dream I wish she'd just leave me alone. Because French cream won't soften them boots and French kisses Will not break that heart of stone. The piano and guitar work is masterful.

I've personally never been to one of his concerts. However, my older sister went and she was not a fan at all of Springsteen, at the time. She went because her friend was a huge fan. My sister came out of that concert a huge fan saying it was the best concert she's ever been to and loved all the stories he told with each song he sang. That always left a big impression on me...for someone who was indifferent to an artist come out of a concert with such a change. The power of music and storytelling.

In general their reviews are very shallow. They should stick to guitar solos and metal(which I love bit for different reasons). Anything with depth escapes their grasp. Your comment is correct. It's the ultimate giving of yourself to someone in the desperate moments when ot seems that the love you're in is all you have, need or want. The drinking comments are ridiculous, considering Bruce probably drinks less than almost any other artist. Shallow. I'm not above criticising reviewers. So far these guys are the only ones I find to be off base and inaccurate even on songs they like. Research and history is not on their wheelhouse.

When I lived in Cleveland (home of Springsteen's second-biggest fanbase), every Friday evening WMMS would kick off the weekend with "Born To Run". The station's slogan was 'the weekend never ends', but there was no question as to where the weekend began. To me this song always sounds like Friday night is here at last, let's cut loose, hit the streets, and see just how great a weekend can be. I've been listening to Bruce since 1980. He's probably the greatest artist in the history of rock. Did you know that he had 7 top 10 hits off the album Born in the USA. Only Michael Jackson has equalled that. He's also the only artist in history to have every album he released in the charts at one time. That was after 7 albums. He played to 300,000,000 people when the wall went down on old East Germany. Born to run put him on the cover of both time and news week magazine in 1975. He's one of the top grossing artists in history. At 65 yrs old, his international concert tour grossed more than anyone except Madonna. Both of them outperforned, by far, any modern artist. Bruce is thd only artist to have a 24/7 Sirius XM Channel which plays 95% hos music. All other Sirius artist channels play a mix or only last a month or two. Bruce's concerts, to this day sell out in minutes. Regardless if it's 20,000 or 100,000. His stint at Giants stadium in, I believe 2009, sold out in minutes. 80,000 a night 7 nights straight. If you want to hear some really good stuff, Check out his live video. Too many songs to mention as there are several hundred that are well know. Off the top of my head, he has 29 studio albums. "Ghost" his latest, at 70 yrs old came in at #1 in the UK and #2 in the USA, also topped charts globally. Check out live performances from 1978, which were arguably some of his greatest performances. Prove it all night, badlands, 10th avenue freeze out, Racing in the street, the mini rock opera "Jungleland". Growing up, blinded by the light, Candy's room,. Later, The River, independence day, Sherry Darling, out on the street, wreck on the highway, Cadillac ranch, Ramrod, Nebraska, Johnny 99, Atlantic City, Human Touch, Wrecking ball, if I should fall behind, the ghost of tom joad, magic, girls in their summer clothes, Brilliant disguise, One step up, Wrecking ball, etc, etc....then dc the new album.....ghosts, letter to you, janey got a gun, in my dreams. You can dig deeper. Google Springsteens top 325 songs. A critic catalogued them and ranked in order. You owe it to yourself to check out his body of work one album at a time from over 50 years. Have fun as millions of us have on this journey!

When you can no longer just be yourself and do the things you want to do because some girlfriend or wife has you by the nuts, you'll wish you never met her. All the gloss wears off over time. I’ve always heard ‘Tramps’, meaning vagabond - tramps would hitch rides on freight trains when they needed to move on to a new area. I assumed that they were searching for their place in life and in the world and those people and their lifestyle were ‘Born to Run’.

For me this song passes the "turn up after 1000 plays?" test: You're in a car; a song that you've heard a million times before comes on the radio; do you turn up the volume? That only happens to the very best, most loved songs. "Born to Run" always makes me turn the volume up.

my excitement for y'all finally listening to this song is INSURMOUNTABLE. i saw this recommended to me as i was watching another video and clicked immediately. i found your channel BECAUSE of Bruce bc i wanted to see someone react to him. When I was younger, I did *not* get the appeal of Springsteen. He was scratchy and not aesthetically pleasing and just so *loud* it was confusing to me. As I got older and started itching to leave my small town that felt like it was crowding around me, I started becoming more interested. then, one summer, a longtime friend of mine and I hung out every week and we'd drive around in the heat and blast Springsteen and discuss lyrics and scream along with him. Such a gorgeously bonding experience. I think his music really has the power to provide that. It *is* very much a relatable, drunk at a bar feeling and that's the whole point. He's the every man and he's trying to get out of that small town just like we were and that's transcendent. It always will be. There will always be those tramp-like kids itching to leave their small town lives. I'm always stunned bc people in the comments of any Bruce video say "I'm not really a fan BUT-" or "I dunno I'm on the fence with him BUT-" like, that's a very specific and significant kind of power, y'know??? Even the people who aren't falling over him can agree, the man has got talent and there's at least one song that people can connect with. It's a beautiful, beautiful thing. I could suggest every single Springsteen song to ya, but I'll just throw Rosalita in there (although I've got a personal affinity for For You and The Angel). And don't wait another year or I'm coming to get ya! Even if you don't listen to every Springsteen song on the channel, I highly suggest laying down and really listening to the tone and lyrics of a few. Dig and fall into them if you've got the time. It's worth it.

I don't know who was his advisor back then, I vaguely remember (45 years ago folks!) that shortly after this track came out, someone associated to his label did a disastrous push of Springsteen in the UK with the strapline "Is the UK ready for Bruce Springsteen" Various quotes and testimonies turned up in the press about this "new Bob Dylan" The hype completely bombed, I think that tour dates were cancelled as a consequence.
