Boris Johnson’s return ‘reminds us what we’re voting against’ | Giles Coren

“I imagine his motivation is the sudden realisation that he has three more children that have to go through private school and bloody hell 20 per cent on VAT really isn’t funny.”
Rishi Sunak’s decision to being back Boris Johnson “reminds us what we’re voting against”, says The Times’s Giles Coren.

My dad died not from Covid, but because he couldn't see a doctor and get properly assessed. He was turfed out of hospital in one day, because of Covid, and died in the same hospital there three weeks later, from a treatable condition, having had no visitors for a week. He had about fifteen people at his funeral because of restrictions. Seeing that silly little man smirking as he gloated about having parties, whilst spraying spittle everywhere, will make the sight of the Tory party's corpse more beautiful tomorrow

@@Withnail1969 No, they really didn't. Labour were investigated for a single potential breach and no breach was found. The Tories were found to have held 12 gatherings which did breach the law at the time and offered in their defence the argument that they simply misunderstood the rules which they were responsible for introducing. Boris didn't lost the premiership for that (although it was a contributing factor - it added to the pile of occasions where senior Tories were sent out to deny something that was almost immediately then admitted, and ultimately it was doing that which caused them to kick him out), but he did lose his seat for lying to Parliament about it. This is not both sides being as bad as each other.

Johnson's speech wasn't meant to shore up the Tory party. He was just sticking his toe in the water to see if the time is ripe for him to make a come-back; self-interest all the way. It would appear to be the consensus view that the time is not ripe.

This cycle I have mainly heard discussion on pole results rather than policies or even past performance. Probably because the Tories don’t want to discuss performance and Labour don’t want to discuss policies. Whichever flavour Government we get we are fooked for the next ten years.
