noah starr yeah that was pretty predictable and felt like the same situation with lilith. Fighting alongside a siren, bad guys show up, siphon powers. When i went into that mission attacking that vault with maya i was sitting there waiting for troy and tyrene to show up and was disappointed when they did

That was the ultimate disservice, him being there or at least in the story physically would have helped to give her the death she deserved, maybe helped that shitty funeral thing where he had another moment where almost spoke properly? (by which I mean along the lines of "turn around pretty lady!") Lack of Axton and Sal didn't help either, that's why Roland's death had weight as well

Watcher: How's the progress on the preparation- Where are the rest of the Vault Hunters? Tannis: Off in their own ventures. Zer0 in one of his pointless hunting games. Axton has taken a career in... something you'd rather not know. Salvador I don't even want to know because he's so repulsive. Gaige's planning a wedding. Maya's dead. @@bilboswaggins3118 Alright, I had already heard all that before I played the game so I was completely ready to hate her, but people are overreacting. She went on a tirade once, and no one complained since she was just a kid who lost the person closest to her, Tannis even tells her to shut up after which she did. She didn't break any rules by getting Maya's powers, Tannis got Angel's powers, we used to think that Siren are born that way, but apparently powers can be passed willingly upon death, or it gets randomly transferred to anyone after the owner's death. Lillith's line, "Sanctuary's yours" is indeed a problem for me too, but it could be metaphorical as she is their new siren being trained to use them for a long time. If Lillith literally gave sanctuary to a little girl then yes, that is not OK. But people are overreacting.

But anyways, I had already been spoiler completely, and heard a lot of shit about Ava, so I just waited to see how awful she would be, but she wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. At least she reacted to Maya's death, for some reason Gearbox didn't use any other BL2 character other than Zer0 who barely had anything to say. Krieg coming in to get revenge against Troy would've been so much better. Shafting Bl2 characters so much pissed me off way more than Ava ever did. Kept hearing about how the universe might end but barely anyone to help beyond their personal problems on their own planets. TFTB characters got more love. Someone at gearbox really loves Lillith and Tannis and it shows, even the player character doesn't even exist during cutscenes, pissed me off a lot, where the fuck do they go? When Roland died it was a huge deal and you didn't have to become non existent during the cutscene, hell even Bloodwing got a much sadder death, made me feel bad and angry despite the fact that I hadn't even played BL1 back then.

now that we know pandora is a vault and elpis is the key, zarpodon's mission to destroy the moon makes a lot of sense. she only wanted the destroyer to never be released again.

Given the option I’d ditch the Crap Raiders in a heart beat to join the B team. Ava is more annoying than all the kids in Skyrim put together and got my favorite character killed had zero character arc and is now in charge because screw you. I hated the story and honestly have no desire to play through with any of the other characters. I might pop in for events still with my max level Zane but none of the other characters as interesting enough to suffer through this crap again. Though if they make another dlc or event with Thrawn prawn whatever I’m out. If they’re not going to put in effort they can at least lie about and call it rain while they’re taking a piss on gamers

@@Plooooof but during the fight with the destroyer in borderlands 1 angel mentions something like "the creature can only be killed in this dimension" or something like that, so did the 4 vault hunters actually kill the destroyer? Probably not. Reminds me of the eldrazi from magic the gathering. The destroyer they fought on pandora was like a hand or a foot reaching through the pond- that wasn't the entirety of the destroyer. So it makes sense all the eridians died sealing it since they had to fight it at full power, and not trapped anywhere

@@stormsand9 true. The Destroyer came from another dimension not another galaxy or universe. They had to sacrifice their entire race just to seal the monstrosity away. What the VHs killed in Borderlands 1 and 3 are just vessels of the Destroyer. Though in Borderlands 3,Tyreen became half of the vessel for the Destroyer, thus combining their power at once. Unfortunately at that point, the Destroyer was still weak and wasn't fully unleashed. But still, 1 edgy girl demi-god lovecraftian monstrosity vs 4 lads with guns.

I just hope it gets the Postal 3 treatment when the original writers come back, and declar everything in 3 non-canon and continue the real story.

But this was another main character and a part of the team Zero was in during the events of Borderlands 2. I feel like he should mention her more than once, especially since he was the only other vault hunter from Borderlands 2 that does something in 3. Like he doesn't need to sob or anything but damn at least say something that makes it seem like you cared.

Yea They couldve done some interesting things with how he was "done getting scraps" from his sister and could be his own siphon. he couldve split up from her now that he was aware he could sustain his own life maybe even betray her or at least cause a conflict like it was "hinted" at during their later banters as they tried to taunt the hunters so much couldve been better with his character alone

One of my biggest problems with the story is something you mentioned. The characters from the previous games were either not there or had very little to do. Also Maya's death seemed more for just shock value rather than good writing. In that scene everyone acts like a dumb ass and it feels like troy can only take her power away all of the sudden because the plot demands it.

Just finished the game some time ago, and man, they dumbed down everyone who was ever involved in a cutscene. Worst of all, us as the players were never included in them. It's as if we just don't simply exist in the cutscenes, atleast in borderlands 2 when roland died, felt like we were with them in that cutscene.

No it doesn’t you’re just biased. The story of BL3 isn’t the greatest but if you’re not being biased you’ll see that it makes sense for Troy to take her powers. Him and his sister are twins and share the same power. It’s already been shown that she can take siren powers like when she took Lilith’s. There’s also just the fact she can “consume” random people like her bandit followers. Up until meeting Maya Troy hadn’t physically touched a siren before besides his sister. He already partially shares the same power as his sister and thus that’s why she can “feed” him and why he can’t take her powers. It’s also why he was able to take Maya’s powers and even “consume” her. It all makes sense you’re just part of the hate band wagon for the game that makes it seem much worse than it actually is

Tina was out on Pandora with mordecai and all the bandits and shit. A way more intense world to live in. Ava is more innocent than Tina. JobysTooFresh YT Being young isn’t an excuse for being a spoiled, annoying character. She caused Maya’s death and threw the blame on Lilith for no reason. She basically threw a tantrum the entire game just to be rewarded for it by getting Maya’s powers. Literally nothing she did makes her deserve any of the good things that she got. The story would have been way better if they killed Ava and kept Maya alive. They just decided to kill a fan favorite character in order to follow that basic trash story of their apprentice taking over. Ava is going to be a terrible leader of sanctuary and if she is a playable character I’ll enjoy getting myself killed over and over again.

There will be no borderlands villain as funny and unique as Handsome Jack

@@kraken1016 It could follow that trend. So far we know of five siren powers: Leech, Firehawk, Phaselock, Phaseshift, and Arm Rape. We never saw what Commandant Steele's powers were specifically, but it would be reasonable to say we find out about the 6th power in BL4 and what happens when they all combine in BL5. Or a combination of both in BL4. I suspect combination of all 6 siren powers would be the equivalent of being a god in the BL universe (which Tyreen could be a foreshadow of this), and it would be a fitting final boss for the BL franchise.

@Mai Nyigguh aaaaaaaand I understand that. But I and probably a lot of players who have played every borderlands game character abs dlc would feel like they took the claptastic voyage dressed it up and fed it to us.... again! I'd be pissed!!!

Imagine if Salvador or Axton were there to care about Maya. Or if Zero actually said anything about it. Even Gaige or especially Krieg who's obsessed with her could have been in the game. That's what made Roland's death and even Bloodwing's impactful in the last game. The people closest to them were devastated and it changed them and the tone of the rest game. "You need all the vault hunters you can get!" But half of them aren't even in the game... Out of the 13 living VHs, 6 (Axton, Salvador, Gaige, Krieg, Athena, Timothy) aren't there, 1 (Aurelia) is a villain, 3 (Maya, Claptrap, Zero) are just kinda there some of the time, 2 (Mordecai, Brick) pop in for two seconds, and 1 (Lilith) actually kinda matters but not much.

Ill be honest "The Warrior" from bl2 is scarier to face than the destroyer...

I fully agree. Warrior killed me several times, while I killed the destroyer on the first try. Moreover, when you killed the warrior the first time, you got lots of loot and a legendary. Destroyer and vault gave me zero legendaries and only very average loot.

Well, i played all Borderlands parts pretty often, but other than Bl2, Final bosses tend to be "just one more of those bosses", while handsome jack in basically his last breath summoning a monster that looks epic really felt like a final boss... Joke Reee I think the watcher thought that tyreen would succeed and the destroyer would be released

Just a note. The destroyer didn’t die in bl1 cause we only killed his “mortal host”. We kinda just made sure he couldn’t leave the vault.

I was extremely disappointed in BL3's story. While some characters where extremely established and experienced growth, becoming highly enjoyable, too many characters were either absent, boring, shallow, despicable, or simply uninteresting. The writers had the capacity to tell a deep story that include characters with a full arch and development. Unfortunately, they only seemed to exercise such talent on a select few portions of the game. I mean... how many times can a story progress solely due to deus ex siren?! Too convenient and not enough questions answered or the world explained. Lazy. Love the gameplay. Loathe the story.

The writers do not have the ability to write anything deep and meaningful. I thought playing through the first 2 games would cement that but idk wtf y’all were expecting from the equivalent of a saints row franchise. They’re comedic games please do not expect anything deep from game developers…..they’re gamers. People who rarely spend time outside.

Maya’s death felt more impactful when I spoiled it for myself by reading the wiki than actually seeing it in the game.

In the siren logs she says there is a seventh siren but shouldn't be found, maybe the seventh will be in the next borderlands

I was half tempted to pause the game and walk off as in borderlands 2 I was a Maya main well until gauge came but yeah. I also actually wasted a full clip or my gun on ava I knew it wouldn't do smeg all but god was it therapeutic. Additionally the DLC for this game keep me going

I felt the same way about Roland when he died.

Someone should start a petition to have Gearbox get Ava killed in the next game (if there will be another game)

The other thing that sucks about the end of BL3 is that, in BL2 when you killed the Warrior and were about to kill Jack, Jack's final words were so powerful and it really closed up the game. After beating Tyreen, she said nothing. It just made the ending feel kind of empty

To add: Zer0 now has a voice line referring to Maya's death that you can hear only after that mission before continuing, though he will only seem to repeat that ONE voice line during that duration, which makes me think it was an after thought, or a voice line they forgot to use that was added in with an update.

The " Continued in 4 " legit got me when I played through ... I wonder now if it's possible of another title?

one week after launch and you're already eyeing up a sequel? come on now, we got DLC and event content to consume before that's even a thought. But of course it's possible, plenty of potential within the story to keep things rolling. a New evil, a new awakened threat. At the end of the day, there are still, SO MANY VAULTS untouched and unexplored.

Yes! I specifically went in blind so the entire story was fresh to me beyond Mouthpiece. It was a phenomenal experience. Personally I didn't believe Maya was really gone until the end. I kept hoping that since she and her clothes disintegrated but the Siren book stayed, that maybe she had found a way to store herself in the book until she was needed. Unfortunately it looks like she's staying gone.

When she goes down, sometimes she'll say "powering up" and structures form. I think rebellion is right, that wasn't it, or at least all of it. She's gathering that power from something, and I think that's the full destroyer.

I feel like the Destroyer or whatever Tyreen was was just like, the baby version of the real monster. Like it just eats and eats and never stops growing, until it can consume entire planets. That said I totally agree with you. The Graveward was probably the most intimidating boss, and the one that REALLY felt the most like a boss fight. The final boss should have at least been bigger than the Graveward.

Going into Bl3, I had only one wish, to see Axton, Salvador, Zer0, and Maya all fight together one last time... thats not possible now... :(

So zarpedons mission to destroy elpis wasn't to prevent Jack from knowing about the warrior, it was to prevent someone opening Pandora as a vault, which elpis is the key

When I heard that line from the eridian after playing pre sequel at the end I was fully expecting the Pandora system to basically be caught in the middle of a corporate galactic free for all as they threw everything they had at each other and the sanctuary vault hunters over who gets to fill the massive power vacuum that hyperion left after their departure from the region and also because vaults were opening all over the place left right & center. But nah all we got were two wannabe echonet personalities instead

When you think about it, it's only a matter of time before the og characters get killed, it's a violent and unpredictable universe after all, the og characters have to pass the torch onto the new characters to carry their legacy.

Ya know... I'd been reticent to complain, but after preordering the Deluxe Edition for $100 - this experience left me feeling ripped off. The gameplay is fantastic, and feels awesome... The story leaves MUCH to be desired for what I paid for it.

I guess this is why I’m so demotivated to do true vault hunter mode cause the story is just so bad that I don’t want to go through it all again

i was annoyed that krieg, gaige axton and sal werent in the game but after they had brick tina and mordy be relevant to the story for only one mission, followed by only one side mission each, im kinda glad theyll (hopefully) be brought in in DLCs that can give them more of a main focus for the DLCs, so long as they do shit and arent the shades of said DLC or like mister torgue where he never showed up for his DLC and was just a voice (which fit the DLC, but i dont want that being the case for the characters that killed handsome jack and did all the other huge shit in BL2s DLC)

its literally the vault wars. its even mentioned in a typhon echo log u can find right before going into the vault on eden. jakobs father mentions it to him in the past.

That echo log where Ava asks Maya about mentioning Nyriad in her sleep. I must have heard that a dozen times by now but I never made that connection before.

What got me is when Lilith didn’t want to discuss how she Lost her power, I thought how stupid can you be. An enemy so powerful you discuss everything in detail hoping to find a weakness or not to fall in the same trap, so Miya died because of feelings. Oh well. Good game though

To be fair, nobody was sure Troy could suck the powers out of other sirens other than Tyreen. That's why Troy and Tyreen are surprised when Maya's powers are absorbed by him 🤷‍♂️ I still dislike the way they killed her off and how everyone else reacted to it tho.

Nycto even if the battle was discussed I doubt it would have saved Miya. And I was alright with the way she died. Made sense when poor decisions and hurt feeling are involved in making those decisions. Especially when the teenage prodigy who going to grow up just like Tireen. Who action enabled the death of Miya . No remorse and blaming everyone else along with how others in the group treat her. Yes I know she is going to be a siren one day. But not yet. The prodigy supposedly have had a hard life but shows signs through language and actions of a narcissistic. Who has the world bend to her rules, with all se needs handed to her a golden plate. Other than that I still love the game and the story, even with the teenage undertones and bad writing. But I do understand why. This I suppose is to attract more players. The teenage girl superhero.

@@WaveForceful Yeah and it's great they gave Troy development. I honestly prefer Troy over Tyreen by a bit because of it. Still, my issue is not that that she died but the build up and the way it was handled afterwards. Outside of Troy, Ava, etc. her death didn't feel impactful and tbh I *personally* think they killed her off too soon. It felt like we spent little time with such a beloved Vault Hunter from 2. When she died my reaction was a "Really? Already?". Again, my issue is not that she died but the way it was handled before and after. My issues are kinda subjective since I can see why people may not have any issues with it anyways 🤷‍♂️

It’s kind of funny. That means if Jack Actually got ahold of his dragon then he would’ve purged all evil. He would’ve cured pandora and accidentally destroyed the destroyer. So Jack really was the hero all along.

Well, in the end, Jack is such a great villain, because he's technically right. He's an asshole and has questionable methods, but he would make Pandora a better place. And thathe hates the crimson raiders is understandable, after they tried to kill him and ruin everything he build He said it many times, in his eyes, he's the hero and if he had won, history would probably remember him as one

she had zero relevance the entire game. not even at the end when she gained her siren powers did she actually do anything. tannis was the one that became the main character.

Borderlands 3 proved gearbox has no clue what they where doing the writers deserve to be fired.

They better not make Ava the new siren to play in borderlands 4, if that ever happens.

This was probably the 1st ever siren that somehow doesn't age therefore cant die naturally

There is a big dislocation when most of the cutscenes have only lilith, ava, and tanis talking to each other and nothing more...

I believe that the mysterious seventh siren Nyriad mentioned in one of her texts may have a huge role in the next installment and the war to come.

Always felt weird how lilith and the others treated the player character as the only one capable of accomplishing anything. All the others, brick, mordecai, etc. Just feel like they are useless and no longer as badass/capable of anything. They're supposed to be badasses, going by the previous two games.

@@RamboSnoop I believe there is a bit more. There is a conversation between Brick and Lilith in the Fight for Sanctuary DLC that showed how deep the rift between them is.

God damn it the games barely out and you're getting me hyped for the next game.

Boobby Shmirda Not absolute garbage, it just feels like more a pre sequel type storyline rather than a main entry.. this video convinced me it’s mainly there to potentially set up 4, which is pretty frustrating and disappointing after waiting 5+ years for this game and expecting an epic story.

It's gonna be a general knoxx style dlc where they add a bunch of new features and story.

The next game will have all the living vault hunters due to “gather all the vault hunters you can”

I hope in the next game you'll be able to play as all the vault hunter from all borderlands games except those who died

idk, honestly it feels like they could've called this one Borderlands: the Lilith story

Yeaaaah. Tbh Maya dying had my jaw drop. But everything after that with Ava and Tannis being Sirens felt forced af. And all this humility from Lilith about losing her power just for her to be right there and get them back at the end. Then she just flys to Elpis? Like what? The ending felt like how The Fight For Sanctuary 2 was meant to end. Right down to the cheesy "This Girl is on Fire" outro. I wanted Krieg,Axton,Brick,Mordecai, Mr Torgue, Grandma Torgue, etc. All I got was the Sisterhood of the Traveling Tattoos. Troy had huge potential and it was wasted, especially with the hints of him basically being physically and emotionally abused by his sister. Tyreen was played out as her character was portrayed no big surprises with her tbh. I think my favorite parts of the game are Eden-6 because Wainright Jakobs is wholesome af, and Nekrotefayo because after all the audiologs, anything related to Typhon Deleon had me wanting more. But all the forced Siren shit got tedious. I legit think I hate Ava.

Zer0 actually does have something to say but I absolutely completely know how you missed it. I missed it my first time through. Zer0 says something like she deserved better, and “rest in peace Maya” while doing a sad face. You have to talk to him like right before Tannis starts talking. Still not great, but I’m glad it’s in there.

It still doesn't help the fact that they just completely wasted Maya. Also saying that "Maya had a plan" doesn't back it up either because it wasn't even explained what Maya plan was. There are like so many problems around Maya death for 1 why didnt Zer0 lend a helping hand when we fought the 1st Vault monster, the Vault was underneath Atlas, he could've easily just popped out in front of the twins saving Maya's life in the process. 2 not including Axton and Salvador is also another problem, they also could've helped when raiding Cathedral of twin gods avenging and Honoring Maya death.

Couldnotic there problem with axton and Salvador. First, we don’t anything about there location. We would need to find them and recruit them. Second, for story reason. By adding them it would make a already bloated story where barely any characters get developed into a even worse bloated story, since every character in game is trying to be in the main plot unlike BL2 where you had characters that were relegated to side characters. Honestly, stop and think about how the story is at moment before saying” WhY tHiS ChArAtEr NoT iN”

@@couldnotic She had Ava, she knew her powers could go to someone, so her plan was literally dying and relatively soon. So if we take the name she mentioned in her sleep... I guess she had dream visions telling her to off herself. ...that actually just makes her death even less meaningful. Might as well just had her show up after vanishing for a few years in a vault that had something special... like that one guy who died horribly as well while we were standing there just like with Maya... but then proceeded to kill the same bad moments later. It is almost like they invalidated everything.

Borderlands 3 is only a year old and from this video, I want the big war that the Watcher talked about to happen more then anything cause if that means all the Vault Hunters from every Borderlands game who are still alive, are gonna fight one last time together, then I'm all in for it but who knows, this dream will probably stay a dream, sad oof

“And you will need all the vaunt hunters you can get” I expected like 10 vault hunters to play but nah 4 and no new ones

Borderlands 3 feels more like Borderlands 2.5 since it is more about getting new vault hunters instead of that war we are promised.

@@Dressing007 No, not at all. Sure its improvement from 2 but still not quite enough to be called 3. More like BL3 fixed problems BL2 had instead innovating and expanding gameplay.

I still want to know how the hell the twins knew everything you did as soon as you did it, at least with Jack he had Angel hooked up to everything and Helios literally looking over you but the Twins were just omniscient apparently, I get their Vault knowledge but thats it

Really late, but: i remember a line from Tyreen, heard it somewhere on Promethea. She said that "your ECHO encryption sucks". So, i guess she intercepted many of our comms. Strange that our character doesn't report this problem to Lilith, buuuut anyway.

Myriads echo talking about no death for the destroyer, and the possibility of the creator.. I have a feeling the "war" the watcher is talking about is going to be a possible fight that happens between the creator and the destroyer. Or perhapse the two that are believed to be the strongest vault mosters will work together, in an attempt to take out the entire universe and create a new one, and it is up to the vault hunters to build an army to stop the destruction of everything. This would also be a nice way to set up a return for lillith since she is possibly not actually dead. Ava, leading the crimson raiders now, followed by tannis, ellie, and all of the other vault hunters we know right now, would be interesting to see in a fight all at once. Also not too big of a deal, but hopefully the next one could actually explain to us what Zer0 is. It would be fun to know that all this time the vault hunters were working with an eridian being, or someone completely different all together

I was starting to think that I was the only one who actually wanted answers in this game about the Watcher too... Thank you for making this!

My biggest problem witH borderlands 3 story is all the social media references it's feels like the writers just got finished watching a KZread video

RxD Viper Looks like they watched a satire of a social media idol. Good for a comedy show/movies, but not for a game where you spent 8 hours looking at a parody of a person.

The watcher was referring to the good borderlands 3 story that was they failed to make.
