Some clearly do it for greed, but some could be forced/threatened or vulnerable people who've been offered a way to survive and feed their families. People do it because they don't have money to feed themselves or their families. The vast majority of smugllers get through customs with no issues you just don't see those cases for obvious reasons. If it means providing for their families why would they not choose a relatively low risk victimless crime?

However, if you bring in more than (i think?) 800 cigarettes they may be suspicious that they aren't for personal use and can seize them if they suspect you will be selling them. Under 800 you're fine, 800 or over you're gonna get questioned and they might not believe you and sieze them.

There is no limit to the amount they can bring in for personal use, but the tobacco can be seized, if customs thinks it's for resale. Under the guidance means below an amount that is automatically suspicious, but ultimately it's a judgement call

Why? It works. A fairly low percentage of smuggled drugs get caught in the airport, that's why cartels continue to use mules. If all their mules were getting caught they'd stop using this method.

they're also subject to a full body search if a machine picks up trace amounts of a chemical you might never have come into contact with. Shake hands with the wrong person? you set that machine off. If the operator mishandles the machine or it's calibrated incorrectly, you set that machine off.

I like how I found this show recently and just got on a flight back to the UK and actually knew what all the machines were and how they did there jobs. I got pulled aside and swabbed! I had to try not to laugh and the irony of the situation!

Here in the states (even if you DON'T have anything illegal) you can get arrested for repeatedly cussing & yelling at customs officers, happened to a friend of mine he actually got 6 months for doing that (it's called disorderly conduct)

They're people coming into the country. The UK has no control over the checks carried out at the departure airport. That's why customs is focused on people coming *into* the country.

No matter the job in customer service this happens...a lot of people are just impatient and don't understand. Pretty sure the people we see rude in these videos might be rude to other people working in the customer service industry.

Those aren’t needle marks. You need to “shoot’ into the vein, not just anywhere you’d like. Those marks are from using but not injection sites.
