    They ruin everything. Today I was spending time trying to get some old gas cans functional again with eBay parts because the govt even ruined gas cans several years ago. And I have to stand at my sink forever trying to fill a 1 gallon watering can, because my new faucet flow is limited, because California has water issues. Yup...

    Why does where they come from affect their ability to find housing. I moved to coastal NH five years ago and my home valuation has more than doubled since then. It might be good on paper for me, but it's not a good thing. There's too much commercial 'investment' in single family homes, companies shouldn't own homes.

    100% agree, corporations should be federally banned from owning single family residential property. They should be forced to sell their portfolios of property back to the American people for under market value.

    Don Carrigan should have said that the industry for such specialized skills requires successful companies to broaden their search radius for employee candidates to include those from many countries of origin. The skillset requires people who like their work, so the finished product is the best your company can produce. That is why some companies survive and some go out of business, successful ones stay flexible.

    I think it's utter bullshit that a young person can't pursue their love of ship building because there's nowhere to live in the vicinity so they bring in skilled labour from out of the country? Where the hell do those people live when they get there? Weird...

  • @HyppoGryff

    @HyppoGryff

    4 ай бұрын

    Contract workers will stay in motels/hotels most often until their contract is complete. Contractors coming from out of the country will most likely go back to their country after their contract is up and will come back when another one is open. Hell, they might even rent a place while they're here on contract. There are many more people looking to rent their property than sell it. A contractor with experience paying for rent or hotels/motels is different than a young person coming in with little to no experience AND having to find a place to stay. If you really think about it, it's no longer as "weird" as you thought. But that requires thinking which may be hard for some people.

    An experienced worker /contractor gets paid far more than a new younger or even apprentice gets paid... So would be easier for someone that's been around for a bit to get a place... Or even a few together going in on a place for rent... Which a young man/woman coming in won't have that option... Then again... Might could fend a half decent boat to live on in the local marina

    Right, so there's a shortage of housing for American workers, yet somehow there isn't for offshore workers? Or the reality it's more profitable for the company to bring in foreign labor and use housing as an excuse.

    The REAL problem here in Maine and the U.S. is that too many young people have been discouraged from working with their hands and are told during their K-12 years that they should ALL aim for college. This is the fault of all politicians, bureaucrats, and school systems that don’t understand how important it is for manufacturing to exist in the U.S. It is up to each of us to change that back.

    We're going to need more tugs around the country after the Key Bridge collapse. Let's see them built here and fast-track citizenship and visas for overseas talent. We also need to reform shipping laws so that more vessels of all types can be built and flagged here--with all the safety improvements that would entail.
