My old stomping grounds. I grew up in Durango. I remember the sound of the train whistle in the valley in the summers. I spend countless hours exploring in the San Jauns. ❤️

What a fun area to grow up in!

As one who has ridden the train between Durango and Silverton, I definitely suggest taking the train one way and riding the bus back. When we took the train, the 7 hour trip turned into a 9 hour trip because of issues with the track.

Nice video! We were in Silverton a little over a month ago on a Western Fantasy RV Tour. Little to my surprise, when we watched your video, we were right behind you going into the restaurant (16:18). You didn't capture us on the video, but the woman with the pink and blue backpack and her husband, in front of you right before you went into Handlebars restaurant, are our neighbors and traveling buddies. There were six other people we noticed going into the restaurant who were also on our tour; small world. We wish we noticed you guys when we were there, I would have loved to chat with you. Safe travels!

Durango and Silverton are two of my favorite places in the US. Laid back and easy living and the scenery is unmatched.

I was born in Durango. I used to ride a motorcycle to Silverton and Ouray. Took the train from Durango to silverton, you see a different view of beautiful scenery.

Silverton is one of our favorite little towns. We’ve camped in town at a couple rv parks. You can walk or ride your bike anywhere in town for food, shopping or beer. Tons to see in the area.

What a great video with interesting facts of the town in Colorado . Moving from one interesting spot to the next one. Enjoyed the little town scenery and the walk down to mountain. Thank you for sharing this with me!! BS & BK

Another great video! Hilltop-cafe-bistro in Waldport, OR has a Reuben-Burger that is amazing! You get a burger and a Rueben all in one!

God, this makes me miss hiking and Colorado so much. Here's to a short winter so I can get outside again! I spent a lot of time driving through the San Juan Forest on my trip. It was beautiful. There weren't many people around. It seems like it'd be easy to find a secluded spot for weeks. Also, I took the train ride from Durango north half way to Durango. The views were incredible. I'm so glad you've been enjoying yourselves! Happy Holidays!

Good one, like the hike and town walk! Millers Pub in Chicago used to have a good Rueben but that was late 90's early 2000s, used to stop by when going to the huge food show at McCormick place...

The hike looked so cold but beautiful! The Handlebar looked like a great place for lunch!!!

Silverton and the whole area is one of the best places in America.

The best Ruben sandwich I've ever sunk a tooth into is at Low Key Sandwiches in Bozeman, MT. Kind of a quirky walk-up in an old bus. Great yummy sandwiches! Also fun watching you explore Silverton. I used to hangout at Handlebars when I owned the campground at Molas Lake Park......back in the 80s. Those were the good old mountain days.

Ruben is our favorite too. The best we ever had is in Silverthorn, Colorado at the Timberline.

We have travelled almost all states and have settled on Silverton (and Kendal campground) as our favorite Summer spot! We've spend about 6 months time there over the last 6-8 summers. Many wonderful friends made there. It feels like a family reunion each summer. Shhhh....don't tell anyone. :) Enjoyed your video!

If /when you pass through Wisconsin again and get to the southeast Lake Country area, try the Rubin at Schwiffel’s in Oconomowoc. They use red cabbage in the sour kraut and it’s the best we’ve had in decades. Great video as always

Love love that place I have been to Silverton a few times also drove the Million Dollar Highway twice beautiful Highway, if you in the future can takr the train from Durango to Silverton do it specially in the fall when I did it took the bus back. I bet the sandwich taste great after the hike... can wait for the next one hope the rv is complete...happy trails enjoy and be safe....

About 20 years ago I took my mountain bike up engineer pass, till we reached the glacier (which probably doesn't exist anymore).

Awesome campground for free. We have a few free ones in Virginia; however, not as many as out west.

You should go to Palm Springs and get out of that cold weather!

🤣 Yes, pre RV in this one, but wanted to share Silverton for sure! The Anderson has been great...no issues.. and it gets easier to hook and un hook every time. Still need to tweak as we continue to change the weights in the truck and RV, but we really like it. Happy 🦃 day!

Another excellent video!! We have done Engineers Pass in our Jeep. 😉 if you get back there again, you should take your truck to the top. (You could take turns hiking. I often hike while Andy drives the Jeep so I can get my hike on)

Gooood morning, Chris and Aaron from Austin this weekend ! Whoooaaaa…..awesome scenery here! And, thank you for your great narration of the area! It was awesome to meet you two, that day! And, we look forward to your return to the area. My son just arrived to Ouray for the Thanksgiving week (ha…we forgot to tell him that we are out of town until tomorrow hehehe). I recommended he bring his snowshoes so that we have unrestricted hiking ability. Maybe we will go back and do the Kendall Mountain crawl. Guaranteed there will be no sided by sides now. Remy will be down for any adventures too. Safe travels!

@@IreneIronTravels Hi there! You are most welcome! Yes….Happy Thanksgiving to you two, as well! I will fly about 7 miles south of Silverton tomorrow. If it is clear, I will get an aerial snap of Kendall Mountain for you. So…..our illustrious sales guy emailed me a couple of days ago. He said that “he just found out” that the tech found a few things wrong with the ORV…..2 weeks prior! during their PDI and he doesn’t think the parts will arrive in time for our planned 1 Dec pick up date, mainly since they are closed Thanksgiving. Sooooo….we will still go there and do our PDI, and maybe orientation. He recommended that I should pick up the trailer and bring it back when the parts are in (dining room window has a cracked seal and fogs up when you turn on heat inside the rig, pass thru storage auto leveler control inop, and some cosmetic thing). I am inclined not to pick it up (read: not pay for it), until that work is done. Otherwise, it will be 3 or so trips towing the rig back and forth.

No, not yet.....believe it or not we're having trouble selling the propane fridge! I thought it would go quick at half price for a brand new fridge but...... I'm also slightly worried about getting it out the front door! I think the fridge is 23.5 inches and the door is 24! 😳

Oh, nice...we'll have to add that to the list on spots in Colorado!

C. W. McCall, of the 1975 song “Convoy”, did a song called “Silverton” (from the same album, “Black Bear Road”) about the old Silverton train (“Here comes the Silverton, up from Durango, here comes the Silverton, shovelin’ coal, here comes the Silverton, up from Durango, see the smoke and hear the whistle blow “). One (at least, I) would assume the train takes the same route as it did in its working days. That would be a fun trip. Too bad you’re not staying long enough to take it. “Silverton” is a catchy little tune. I’m a rock-and-roller as much as I am a bluegrass lover, jazz freak, folk aficionado and indie appreciator, but country… not so much, but I like that song. (And some Garth Brooks, etc😆) This is a cool look back to when you were still all anxious about your new trailer! Love it! In Northern California we used to have the Skunk train in Fort Bragg, near Mendocino, that did a similar trip to Willits and back. It was SO very cool, but it’s just running shorter trips to a midway point these days. Gotta do these things while they’re still available!!!

The whole you were hiking I was wondering if Aaron was wearing pants, but we never saw his legs. 😂

Go to New Braunfels Tx and go to BUcCee's and try the Reuben. Mike Chen got over 2.3 million views on that Sandwich lol

When were you there? I was there in early Oct, it was still busy during that time. I visit that area a few times a year, it's an awesome area for camping and hiking.

@@IreneIronTravels , There are many trails to hike in that area... I hike in many places but that area is one of my favorites due to the variety of hikes... Can't wait to get back up there again, towards the end of May... take care.

I may have already told you guys about the time I took my ‘89 (?) Bronco from Silverton to Telluride via a crude above-tree-line jeep road. After a harrowing brakes-vapor-locked descent onto the highway leading to Telluride, I hitched a ride into town with Oliver Stone as he was driving by. (At my age, I tend to repeat my stories.)

Oliver Stone (yes, the director) had a place in Telluride. When he picked me up I was trying to act “no big deal cool” as I realized who he was. Actually what caught my attention was his distinctive voice. The whole Silverton-to-Telluride adventure was memorable …… especially when I skillfully coasted to a stop in a grove of Aspen trees as my brake pedal went to the floor. Lesson learned: keep the Bronco in low gear more than I did when descending.

That's soo cool! And yes good point on low gear! We actually smelt a few people burning their brakes on the way down the mountain. We really love our diesel engine brake for this!

Are you still happy with the Adarac rack? I've got the same tonneau cover and am considering the taller (Pro?) version to haul a couple of kayaks. Happy Thanksgiving!

@@IreneIronTravels Yeah, cost is one of the reasons I'm eyeballing the Adarac. And they do look to be well built. Plus, I think it'd be a bit easier to load/unload kayaks from a truck bed rack than from a roof rack. Thank you very much!

@@tcasex Like I said, there aren't many e bikes that are made to handle such trails, mine certainly can't but i bought it for riding on flat, paved roads.

Now I feel like a old coot...I would have sworn I heard your unit was built in Oregon. So, I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why you're waiting for it to be finished in Colorado. Things that make me go...hummm🤔

No...you're right..it is built in Oregon! But, our dealer was in Colorado and we had plans to be there instead of Oregon or Washington. Not many ORV dealers in the midwest or East.

Well if you’re looking for a really good Ruben that is also an alternative Ruben, downtown Cleveland Ohio has a vegan restaurant that serves vegan Reubens. I want to tell you it is actually won the best Reubens I’ve had. I’m comparing that even to meat ones, but considering I haven’t eaten meat in over 20 years, I still think it’s one of the best, hence I won’t say is one of the best vegan Rubens I’ve had it’s just one of the best Reubens I’ve had. Thanks for sharing more of these videos I see that you guys still have in the cut.
