Book Review: TekkonKinkreet Artbooks on Background Paintings & Sketches

Ойын-сауық

These are some of my favourite artbooks. I use them as reference and inspiration. The black cover book has amazing pencil drawings.

One of my favourite movies for sure! I've seen it maybe a dozen times and I still catch something I missed every time...

Wow - stunning! The pencil drawings are incredibly inspiring, but also quite humbling. The layered effects with just pencil are really really wonderful. Thank you for sharing these with us!

love your book reviews so much! These are really helpful. If I'd looked at these online I probably wouldn't have understood the difference or really known what I was missing out on. Found them on Amazon and will be ordering as soon as the budget permits, they should start sending you books for free because this is great advertising! I'm going to look into the movie now as well. Thanks for doing this!

Bought the White Book. It cost me $100 USD with taxes and shipping! Wanted to get the Black as well but is too expensive for two.

I would love to see how they do the corrections with the over lapping piece of paper. Have you ever done a video on this. Thanks.

Did you say that these were all drawn from imagination? I am in awe of the pencil drawings. Thanks for sharing these books - I was completely unfamiliar with this art.

Hey Teoh, just a question since you mentioned using these books for inspiration: do you draw much completely from imagination? I noticed your videos feature mostly drawing from life, so I've always wondered if in your free time you'd construct original landscapes such as the messy rooms and cityscapes in the book. A great review btw, thank you as always.

I draw mostly from observation, seldom from imagination. I check out these artbooks to get inspiration from different styles.

Do you look at the artwork in these books and pick up anything to use in your own sketching? The drawing at 6:38 (subway trolley) makes me look at the brick treatment on the street and say, "wow, yes! I should do try that!" Another excellent review. Thank you, Teoh. Cheers!

+Barb Downham You can use the link at the sidebar on the left side of my homepage. It does not need to link to a specific product. You just have to click it and purchase some stuff within a day and I'll be able to get some commission (I think it's only 4-6% but better than nothing 😁)

+nathaniel byrd I just paid the retail price. It's quite worth it even after the shipping cost from Amazon Japan.
