Book of Wisdom (Wisdom of Solomon) Apocrypha - Contemporary English Version (CEV)

The Book of Wisdom, or the Wisdom of Solomon, is a Jewish work written in Greek and most likely composed in Alexandria, Egypt. Generally dated to the mid first century BC, the central theme of the work is "Wisdom" itself, appearing under two principal aspects. In its relation to man, Wisdom is the perfection of knowledge of the righteous as a gift from God showing itself in action. In direct relation to God, Wisdom is with God from all eternity. It is one of the seven Sapiential or wisdom books comprising the Septuagint, the others being Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs (Song of Solomon), Job, and Sirach. It is included in the canon of Deuterocanonical books by the Roman Catholic Church and the anagignoskomena (Gr. ἀναγιγνωσκόμενα, meaning "those which are to be read") of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Most Protestants consider it part of the Apocrypha.

    I thought so as well in my mind, until 9:02. When speaking of children born of adulterers it says, “If they die in their youth, they will die without hope on the day of judgement, for misery is the reward of doing evil.” I don’t understand how it’s fair for children born of adulterers to be blamed for their parents decision on the day of judgement. Wasn’t it out of their control for their parents to be adulterers?

    @@blake8820 Do not listen to the words said in these apocrypha books-including the book of wisdom. They are not the inspired and true words of God as our scripture. This verse your brought up is exact proof of the fallibility of these writings. What it says in that time stamp is not true; children, regardless of whether their parents were adulterers or not, that die as children will not be held responsible for their parents sin. There is three good evidences for this that I will give you. First, Ezekiel 18:20 which states “the soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father nor likewise.” Second, take a look at 2 Kings 14:6 which I will paraphrase because of the long length of the verse. It states that King Amaziah did not punish the children of a murderer because of their father, in accordance with what the lord stated in the law of Moses. Third evidence I will give you, and a good one is what Christ said. Christ says in Matthew 18:10: “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” The point of this passage is to show how much importance the lord places on children. God loves kids because they resemble a characteristic of him: purity and innocence. (Now obviously I am not saying that children’s purity matches Gods, for no one can be pure as God, but I am simply stating it hyperbolically). But, you get the point. The Lord places an emphasis on his love for children; even stating in Matthew 18:6 that “it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea” to “anyone [that] causes one of these little ones to stumble.” The Lord would not punish children for something they could not control; furthermore, children don’t even grasp the idea of sin so let alone, how can they be judged for it? Do not listen to these apocryphal books, for most of them contain slanderous and disgusting things.

    @@andr3w794 Amen. Thank you for that Andrew! We see through David that children can be punished because of their parents sins but certainly not an eternal punishment. Children from my understanding are counted as innocent because it is not until one reaches an age that you have knowledge of sin that you can be held accountable for it. And even then, you are being held accountable for your own sin and not your parents sins in regards to eternal punishment. Have a blessed day!!

    @@blake8820 when looking at adultery we usually see it from one side of the spectrum but when reading scripture we should see it from the spiritual as well as every other spectrum. Remember that everytime Israel worship other gods God said that they played the harlot or were adulterers. This is spiritual adultery. If a land of ppl worship other gods their children will also be adulterers worshipping what their forefathers worshipped. It becomes their culture in the generations to come. Abraham was born in a land of his fathers which worshipped many gods. When Abraham was called out he repented and worshipped the God we know today, the God of Israel. He then kept the laws of God and taught his children different ways from which he was raised.

    @@blake8820 Under the Old Covenant, sins and grievances were remitted via temple offerings. So the curses from these sins could be broken. However, even that was limited. Because offerings made for sins only applied for those committed in ignorance, or unintentional sins. Intentionally commîtted sins were dealt with differently. Therefore the punishment for intentional adultery in the OT was death. Yes it is a very harsh punishment. And the fact that this sin affects the generations is tragic. However when Jesus came, a much better covenant was thus established. And He bore the punishment and chastisement for our sins. ALL SINS . He cleanses and purifies bloodlines. We are so blessed for His abundant Mercy & Grace ♥️ This is why we must always be thankful and grateful for the Lord Jesus who made a way to wash away the sins of the world, that we would otherwise be paying for. As for those who were born before Jesus, who had to face the consequences of unremitted sins, they were not forgotten. Jesus descended into Sheol. Jesus preached to all the dead, past, present, and future. His Grace & Mercy was extended to them as well. Hebrews 12:23 And Hebrews 11:40 demonstrate how Jesus was able to perfect the spirits of Old Testament believers and liberate them from the darkness of Sheol.

    Solomon was truly given everything including the wisdom(s) within this book but he was overtaken by his own proclivity's to women for which he was warned not to take or go into? I've only become interested in this recently so I'm looking for more about Solomon & the peoples of the day.... thanks for the share >> GB ALL

    It is written, wisdom talked to Joseph, son of. Jacob. Also wisdom talked to Esther. Today, our generation say this as " he was inspired by the holy spirit" this means the entire book of wisdom ( of king Solomon), and the book of proverbs is actually " the book of god the holy spirit. The God the holy spirit was already present in the old testament of the holy Bible. Our God the holy spirit never started only in the new testament of the holy Bible. Emill.

    What are your thoughts on 9:02? When speaking of children born of adulterers it says, “If they die in their youth, they will die without hope on the day of judgement, for misery is the reward of doing evil.” I don’t understand how it’s fair for children born of adulterers to be blamed for their parents decision on the day of judgement. Wasn’t it out of their control for their parents to be adulterers?

    I have a slightly different translation of the "Wisdom of Solomon" by Oxford Cambridge University. WISDOM OF SOLOMON 19-18 For as the notes of a lute can make various tunes with different names, though each retains its own pitch, so the elements (on the periodic table) combined among themselves in different ways, as can be accurately inferred from the observation of what happened next. Land animals took to the water and things that swim migrated to dry land.... (Kinda like evolution?)

  • @daynadrolla6566

    @daynadrolla6566

    I have a different translation as well. The Cepher Millennium Edition. 19:18 For the elements were changed in themselves by a kind of harmony, like as in a psaltery notes change the name of the tune, and yet are always sounds, which may well be perceived by the sight of the things that have been done. For earthly things were turned into watery, and the things, that before swam in the water, now went upon the ground.

    The righteous and elect shall live again in righteousness because their is no unjust judgement for them even through death, they will come to inherit the earth with the last generations therein; when the Son of Jehovah is revealed from Heaven to cleanse the earth of the immoral. During these times the Lord will remake the heaven and the earth without the influence of satan. A righteous man having only the Son of Man as their idol and Jehovah as their God shall be met with peace by the reapers of God and will endure the judgement of Armaggedon, they have a place on his earth. A small number shall inherit the new heaven, they shall lead all life Rejoicefuly in the fruits of their blessings for 1 day the same as 1000years, then the final judgement shall fall upon the unrighteous, because for a short time at the end God shall ressurect the Great and the Small, to judgement and ignominy with satan and all gog and magog, and they shall encompass the new earth and encircle New Zion to spoil it. The Very judgement fires of Jehovah shall cast all hurtful things away forever, God shall inherit all humanity and give them the fruits of eternal life at the end. Remember this advice this is not the pnly life but after death comes the judgement, do Good remember the commands, and worship the spirit in meekness, and come into the good inheritence prepared beforehand in Eden, and promised to Abrahams children. Or enjoy the passing world and its woes, rebel against life, ally with death because their rewards are immediate and their nights are full of planning evil, like blind animals to a slaughter they go to imminent judgement they are brought again to life, the ones they enslaved are now their Masters. Be wise, merciful in conduct and attentive to your elders seek to walk with the spirit of wisdom every day.

    Consider that there are no references to the apocrypha in the New Testament. It is good for historical and cultural purposes. It is better to be a born again Christian. 1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;” Luke 1:46-47 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 1 Corinthians 10:4 “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” 1 Samuel 2:2 “There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. Mark 7:7. “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

    This type of words have been changed throughout history and context is not the same the referring to the chosen people. And if we use the context of today this so called chosen people are actually the rulers of earth and are killing and doing so much evil.So if people want to understand what's going on they have to understand the context of the day's world and so they can apply to what happened before.We might think that the chosen people are good people because of the context of this so called book of wisdom but that's not the case that's not reality.You have subverted reality we have subverted the truth so take everything with a grain of salt.
