Just to add on as to why Pineapples symbolise wealth: Pineapples are a tropical fruit and represent access to the colonies where the warmer weather allowed for pineapples to be successfully harvested. Therefore, only those in higher class families could afford to buy pineapples or to garner pineapples from offshore plantations. Having pineapples in meals, as decorations and even on wallpaper (green wallpaper pineapple motifs were loaded with arsenic) was a manner of representing wealth, power and control over one's house and colonial investments. Quite a loaded history behind the popular fruit symbol. I'm not sure if its related but I also remember hearing that having a pineapple symbol carved into a door symbolised swingers and/or party culture.

Pineapple street is a real place in Brooklyn Heights, where the book is set (and where the author lives). It's an incredibly wealthy neighborhood, with some of the most beautiful brownstones in the city, architecture that is symbolic of wealth in New York - on the tree lined streets of Brooklyn's wealthiest neighborhoods, and tucked away in corners of the Upper East Side (where Gossip Girl is set and where Bloomberg owns several houses). I grew up in Brooklyn and went to school nearby - there is a cafe on the corner of Pineapple street and Henry that is incredibly nostalgic for me. I'm really excited for this book.

HI Jack! I am coming here with a book recommendation that I don't know if you have read. It's called "Witch light" by Susan Fletcher. It also goes by "Corrag". I borrowed it from my local British council library here is India and it was simply stunning. I have never read a book that is THAT picturesque since then. I wanted to own a copy so i looked high and low for a copy I can afford but apparently it's so underrated, it's not even available in inida. But since it is by a British author, you might have more luck.It is basically about an alleged witch called Corrag who escapes her village after her mother is captured on the allegations of witchcraft as well. She runs off to the Scottish highlands where she is still pursued by authorities. She survives in nature and finally tries to assimilate into a highlandic (is that correct?) time when tragedy strikes. It's absolutely stunning and heartbreaking and I think is exactly the kind of book you would love. I think it needs WAY more love than it gets. Hope you see this and hope you enjoy! Love from India!

Pls do read Ballad of the Sad Cafe - that's a gem and one of my faves!! Looking forward to your review!! 💙
I wish I had your humour istg
Just to note that the author of the girl and her cat is actually makoto shinkai, who is also a japanese animator who made Your Name(a.k.a Kimi no nawa) and Weathering With You, two very popular animes.
Jack was gifted with some nice books. Lucky.
i just finished carrie soto!! so excited to see your review, i loved it SO much!

Jack 2 days ago: let's unhaul everything! Jack today: here's another bunch of books to add to my TBR!!
OOOOHHH YEAH BOOK MAIL 📦💪

Just to add to how insanely I have been affected by this book. It has been 8 years since I last read it. I have wanted to read it again since then but couldn't because couldn't buy a copy. And I am still trying to recommend this lol.
I want to read Pineapple street sounds amazing 😍
Really nice !! ^^
At this point I think I watch Jack in the Books more than the main channel 😅💕
So I finished Heaven by Mieko Kawakami yesterday and I need to sit down for a while I think
Hey Jack! Am gonna just innocently add a book to you immense tbr that I think you will adore! It is “Broken Wings” by Khalil Gibran! Hope you have the time to read it and immerse yourself in Gibran’s superb writing!!
Also if you found she and her cats nice, I thinkyou will really like the travelling cat chronicles(unless you've alr read it)
What happened to the "these are the books I'm prioritising" video? But it's Kay. This is good too.

It’s coming! But then I received all these books and had to wait to prioritise until I’d opened them 😂😂
Since you got a Italo Calvino book...how about a video about Italian literature? Love, from Italy🇮🇹😆
I'm taking notes 🤓
I just saw your story about the cat book, and I'm a bit apprehensive?, but Makoto Shinkai is one of my favourite directors so I will definitely be reading it at some point
imagine sending him your book and he roasts your cover. i would change the cover in a heartbeat
Jack‘s last video: goodbye books! Jack‘s recent video: look i have new books :D
thank you
OH MY GOD please please please read Pushkin, he is so brilliant, his words just flow right off the page into your mind and his writing is the most smooth and beautiful you can ever read (in the original, I mean, but I'm sure penguin has top-notch translators). personally I prefer Captain's Daughter, but Queen of Spades is also *chef's kiss*
Pineapple street is actually a real street in Brooklyn, and it’s next to orange street (which might be why there’s an orange on the cover? not sure), and cranberry street!
Jack if you haven’t read Tale for the Time Being it’s absolutely *phenomenal*. Easily the best Ruth Ozeki and I think you’ll enjoy the concept very much. Feels very deeply Japanese and also American
Yes yes yesss
Omgg, Halil Cibran's (a famous Turkish Author) books are translated into various langs🥹🥳🥳🇹🇷
Good morning Jack 😀
jackkkkk!!!!! please read a tale for a time being by ruth ozeki its one of my favourite books of all time, so good and a lot better than the book of form and emptiness
i'm pretty sure i've read she and her cat but as a manga
Check out She and Her Cat manga by the same author and the illustrator of the popular series Blue Period!
Honestly opening doors sounds like something you actually give to your troublemaking kid that no one wants to read voluntarily
Jack! Pls list the books!!!! Thanks 😭
Jack unhauling his books to make room for more
Hi Jack! You may enjoy " Tale for the Time Being" by Ruth Ozeki.
Quote of the Day: “I might s**t myself. I’m so excited!”
Of course an unhaul only results in the acquisition of more books
Out of Context Jack Edwards: “That should’ve been satisfying.”
AM I EARLY??? SLAY I LOVE YOU JACK
You should absolutely read The Shadow of the Wind, if you haven't already.
you are my muse
I really want to hear what Jack thinks about Carrie Soto is back!!!
