Wait, $500 for ALL OF THAT? Holy crap, that's absolutely an insane deal. I already have three microscopes that I repaired myself, but if I were in the market, I would be jumping on this kickstarter. This is just wonderful, I hope you guys end up selling these continuously because the world of microscopy could really use some decent budget options like this!

Question about repairing microscopes! I have acquired a vintage 1966 compound light microscope from a thrift store a little while ago, but the light apparatus on the bottom is disassembled. All it would take is to re-assemble it, but the pieces and screws are so small and the angles are so sharp that I cannot do it with conventional tools. What kind of tools would work best? I've thought about taking it into a jewelers, but I'm not sure if they would accept it . . .

@@Corvid_Moon a jeweler absolutely would work on a microscope, but they probably wouldn't charge a great price since they'll have to figure it out as they go along. Since it's not necessarily right in their wheelhouse, the labor costs would likely be high. I'd get yourself a set of jewelers screwdrivers, they can be had for very cheap. You should look up the manual for the microscope, it's probably on some forum somewhere and you can download it, it could shed some light (accidental pun, but I'm keeping it) on how everything goes together.

This might look like a deal but this is still a kickstarter project. You might never see anything in your mail box and have no warranty to protect yourself. I'd be willing to pay way more just for a trusting transaction

this kick starter has been about for nearly a month now

This is awesome! I recently got my own microscope for Christmas (not one of these, but still a good one), and I've seen only one moving thing, but I'm not giving up there. My guess is that I haven't many moving things because it's winter and I get my water from a river as opposed to a pond or lake, but still, it's really cool.

You can also use some dirt, put it in water and look at that. I’ve found some nematodes and ciliates myself.

even though i'm probably not getting into the whole microcosmos thing i always like it when people make something expensive and complicated a little bit easier for the average joe to grasp and get behind

WARNING: If you are interested in buying this microscope from outside of the US (Europe especially) make sure you add roughly $200 dollars to the price for taxes and shipping. I was thinking of getting one of these, but shipping plus taxes makes it way more expensive than similar scopes on the market. The 'everything included' option comes out to around $700 to the UK which is getting into low range professional microscope kinds of money.

$500 + $70 Shipping + 20% Tax is $114 add to $570 you have $684. Not sure why that is hard to understand.

I love this idea! One day when i finally live in one place i hope this is still for sale!

This is an amazing deal compared to the price of modern microscopes. Sadly my budget wouldn't let me purchase this, but good luck to anyone who will find this handy! One day i'll join in on the microcosmos and the journey along with it.

I have been searching for a microscope for months, mostly on Amazon, I haven't made a purchase yet since I can't seem to settle on what one I would use the most, so I was happy to jump on board this project as soon as I could. The only bummer now is the wait.

IF This microscope had a polarizing light option, my money would be gone.

Still waiting for my scope but I suggest you guys shop around and see what fits you before buying if you are outside of the US. I'm in canada for example and the shipping is 200$ (holyshit I've bought things 3x bigger with just 30$ shipping) and that's minus the Import Tax. So if you're outside the US, what would cost you a decent price for a beginner microscope might add up to a lot more than what you would get buying in your own country. Also find some reading material in the meantime, it's been a week and a half and the microscope hasn't even been packaged.

They have said a couple times (on different platforms) that once they fulfill the kickstarter orders in June, they plan to sell the microscopes + accessories online, so you'll likely still have a chance to pick one up.

will they be available after the kickstarter now that its reached its goal? just need to save up a bit

I wish I had known about this Kickstarter before funding closed. I see there are still units available at all funding levels. Any chance it will continue to be in production and for sale after the Kickstarter ends?

AmScope just had a sale and I fufilled my bucket list already. mines just lacking all these darkfield attachments and the nifty cellphone holder, but it does have a camera, haven't used the camera yet. still playing with my fishtank water and leftover olive juice. lol

I would be very happy if it is made in the states or somewhere in Europe (which I do not expect). I hope it is not made in China.

I was planning on buying it. But since it is shipped from the US, the sending costs and import tax for shipping to Europe makes it too expensive for me. Wished they could be shipped from within Europe as well!

Which iphone models don’t work with microscopes? I have an old SE (the 6 brains in a 5 shell), and I take pictures through microscopes all the time. If modern ones suck at taking micrographs, that’s going to make replacing mine a bit harder.

Love the idea... However a stereo microscope would have been a lot better for the thousands of beginners that will be ordering one.

I feel like I should have waited! I got a pretty nice microscope(only brightfield, though) last year for Christmas, used it for like 2 months, then there was a pandemic & I couldn't go anywhere or THINK and it got put away and now my kid does school where I had my microscope set up before.... :/
