Sooooo Kewl. How did we ever live without this hobby. Wish I started it in my 20’s not my 60’s. Trying to indoctrinate my grandkids. It would be so cool for them to remember Grandpa from some of my trees. Keep posting, you definitely “get it” Thanks

Thanks Matt very much! I know for me it took some different life circumstances to commit to this hobby but I can remember being completely intrigued with bonsai at an early age, & I can't tell you the countless hours spent in trees as a youngster. Better late than never!

Thanks Andy, had fun trying to be creative. I'm headed up north in august towards Portland & then west to Ocean Park...will I be close to you? Wouldn't mind putting a face to a name if I could squeeze it in!

@@bonedrybonsai4109 Good to hear from you! I live 10 miles north of Roseburg and 8 miles west of I-5. If our schedules permit I would love to meet you and show you my collection of bonsai. Not as many trees as you but I have at least 60 or more trees. We will keep in touch and hopefully be able to meet!

❤ BoneDry Bonsai, Another great update and watch! Thanks for the review of the watering technique and your study of how the trees were responding to that, was very informative. Just one technique I use to reduce water use. Its definately a buzz kill when the topsoil and moss wash off 😆. Loving your philosophy on bonsai practices, sometimes we have to try for self, act and wait for the response. ❤ Stay safe, best wishes to you n your family n trees. Patiently awaiting for another great watch.

I like your video so much. I admire people who do so much for their trees. I love the pruning, repotting, styling. But with watering I am lazy. I water with the hose giving tapwater. With 100 trees it would take me to much time, watering 2 a day in summer. I like the way you talk about your trees. You are a bonsai lover. Of course a like👍

I can water with a hose and it takes a good 30mins or I can water by dunking and it can take upto 2hrs even 3 if everything needs watering... Almost became too much work after a 9hr shift. This upcoming summer Ill really have to reduce stock if I cant keep up with the watering..

Thanks Ernst, I am loving my hobby! I'm in a position right now with my work schedule that I really don't have time in the mornings to get involved in anything major, but enough time to manage the watering & hopefully get videoing/pruning/wiring in. I'll be first to admit if I get in a crunch I roll out the hose. Really glad to hear you enjoyed the vid, it was fun to make!

My work schedule is 4 10's & luckily it's a late start. If I had to water after a shift things would be very different. Also have a better half that's willing to check for dry ones when she gets home. For now it's working out.

Haha. I did the same thing with my Mugo. They grow like aliens. Bar branches, etc. Yours looks like it’s off to a great start. BTW, my Ginko doesn’t grow like a tree. I’m miffed as well. But I love the leaves and the history. Thanks

To keep your soil and fertilizer from floating out, only submerge the pot to the the lip of the pot

  • @bonedrybonsai4109

Yes that's definitely the "fix" Jordan, just also what adds to the addition of time. Having to hold each pot for so long, can only do 2 at a time, waiting for the sphagnum mix to get good & saturated...whah, whah. It's nice to be able to just drop the trees that have established moss already & load the tank doing 3-5 at once. What you're talking about works good with the trees that I've got in 100% inorganic material & I'm thinking maybe a bit of liquid fertilizer in the tank? Thanks!

Question; how long after potting up or repotting a bonsai should I fertilize?

  • @bonedrybonsai4109

Hey Jordon, if I've conveyed I have some grand bonsai knowledge I don't. My channel is a beginners journey & I consider myself still very much a beginner. That said I'd have to ask what species is it, how old, first repotting or potting, what stage of development, what's the tree giving you now & most important what am I trying to accomplish? The nuances are what I'm finding so challenging & fascinating about this art. I think the 4 week mark is what I've heard as a genra lif the tree seems to be responding well to the potting. I've also heard if you only have 1 season to fertilize the most important is fall, contrary to what you may think. Thanks!

I think showing one or two submersions and then showing the plant response would be a better use of time.
