Bonobos at Jacksonville Zoo

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

There were six bonobos in the group today at Jacksonville Zoo: three adult females, one adult male, and two juvenile males. One of the females is over fifty years old, making her the second-oldest bonobo in the world.

These guys are so much gentler than chimpanzees and have a different vocalisation, magnificent animals that don't deserve to be caged up

I have seen video of a female bonobo with breasts as big of as a woman. I read somewhere that a river has separated chimps from bonobos for millions of years not mixing together

It's completely different. Chimps fight to work out problems. Bonobos hump and cuddle it out.

This is pure torture for these beautiful creatures! They live, play, sleep, in the trees, there's not a single tree in sight! This is animal abuse, they are bored, anxious, and depressed! Humans SUCK!

And what, they get poached when they are free? Come on lady, zoos are here for a purpose, and MOST of them do help and give out donations to sanctuaries and animal movements. You can't just assume they are being tortured by their behavior. Some ape enclosures don't need trees. On the chance they do need a tree, they are usually surrounded by a body of water in some zoos, because some apes do have the physical capabilities to jump out of their enclosures and cause havoc. Besides, bonobos have human behavior like, I don't know, being bored in some times and walking and eating things alike.

I have seen a few videos on Bonobos in nature. This is first video I am seeing of Bonobos in captivity. I see a big difference in their behaviour especially aggressive behaviour and lack of sex. I wonder what happens if a bunch of humans are put in a big cage and every one is watching them and filming them?

Many zoos do a lot of good things for wildlife conservation and the people that visit help pay for it. Most zoo animals are rescued or born in the zoo and if it weren’t for the zoo they would probably be dead already and they certainly wouldn’t survive in the wild.

I agree that it's a shame the these wonderful beings are "caged" but they are caged because of human encroachment on their natural environment. Unfortunately it is the greed of humans that has put so many animals in need of "cages" to insure species survival. Ain't humanity swell??
