Lyrics:
How's it feel to be a woman
How's it feel to be a man
Are we really that different
Tell me where you stand
I look at you, you look away
Why do you say we're night and day
I'd like to try another way
Oh baby for just one day
If you were a woman and I was a man
Would it be so hard to understand
That a heart's a heart and we do what we can
If you were a woman and I was a man
If you were a woman and I was a man

@@LevinsThe incorrect. Their album named Shot Through the Heart came out in '84. You Give Love A Bad Name (the actual name of the song) was on the Slippery When Wet Album which came out in 1986. The same person, Desmond Child wrote both songs. But he wrote If You Were A Woman for Bonnie Tyler first. He then reworked it for Bon Jovi because he wanted the song to climb higher in the American charts. He knew the version by Bonnie had already gotten some play and wanted to make the song even bigger by using it for two different groups at once. Bonnie's version was released in March of '86 and Bon Jovi's in July. I'm a massive music nerd and I love the history of songs so I've dug into this before because that chorus melody has become so popular.

Don’t what society your living in. This is being shoved in my face constantly. We got people really switching up genders in real time.
Even after all this time, her voice is still beyond legendary. It is eternal.
I "found" Bonnie Tyler back in the early 80's and still love the authenticity of her and her music. My daughter is now 15 and sometimes when I'm driving her to her friends, we crank up the volume and listen to Bonnie and sing at the top of our voices!

A total underrated masterpiece encapsulating what the 80s were. Thabks for this amazing track and please don't ever let it die because this song is still relevant to this very day.
The best part of this song, is that both the lyrics and the videoclip can go beyond gender. It can be a metaphor to war, peace and acceptance altogether. Now that's art.

@@billythemillipede6102 Feminism is first and foremost about women's rights (therefore the name, the female gender). And that's because women have faced and still face more oppression than men. This doesn't mean that men don't struggle or that the feminist movement doesn't benefit men as well. Equality is something that all people benefit from. But there is no country where men aren't allowed to drive cars, need permittion from their wives to get educated or travel, get mutilated or have to marry their own rapist (and the list goes on). Men's responsibility when it comes to unwanted pregnancies or abortions are never questioned or mentioned. Not to mention the double standards that occur in every society when it comes to sex, clothing and behaviour that affects women differently than men. Just read the news and some history books and you'll understand what I mean.

If it was possible to marry a song, I'd pick this one for sure. The instrumental has that undercurrent of synth with that consistent, thrumming drumbeat, the rhythm of the lyrics throughout the entire song but especially during "I look at you, you look away", the backup vocalists supporting and enhancing Bonnie's vocals, which sound so emotional and gutteral (exactly how I'd want a song with this topic to be sung!), the sax solo, the higher notes in the final 2 choruses, the intense outro that feels like it culminating in a fever pitch... It's all so perfect, I'll never get tired of listening to it ❤
I love this. No body belts out the lyrics with passion like they used to these days .

This masterpiece moves me every day! I've been listening to it for months now, in the morning when I get up, when I'm getting ready for work, when I get home from work, while I'm in the shower. The energy of this song rises to the heaven. What Magic Affair's Omen III is to the '90s, this piece is to the '80s. Aesthetics, energy, words, music, video, fashion. All! A kiss at the end. And that glamorous walk on the way out. Fantasy!😮❤
This song is just vibes, upon vibes, upon more vibes.. it’s now 3am and I’m still vibing 😂 The legendary Bonnie Tyler is eternal 🔥
Yes Ava Max and Bon Jovi and of course Desmond Child wrote this - produced by Jim Steinman. The video is peak epic 80s extra - Bonnie’s trademark gorgeous rasping vocals, radiant and resplendent with big hair big shoulder pads leather dress and diamanté earrings, huge spider’s web, all the extras from Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s Relax video, group synchronised interpretive dance and a huge saxophone solo. Why on earth was this not the massive hit it deserved to be? Criminal that this wasn’t huge!

To me, this will always be one of @BonnieTylerOfficial best (and most underrated) songs. Always been one of my favorites. It's sad this song didn't get the love it deserved back in the 80s (so much so, Desmond Child rewrote it for Bon Jovi into You Give Love a Bad Name, which charted well). Still, this was the song that made my (at the time when I first heard it in 1996 at the age of 14) gay self fall in love with Bonnie Tyler.
