Bonnie Raitt, Sippie Wallace on Letterman, April 27, 1982

One of the early highlights of "Late Night," before James Brown, before Kaufman/Lawler: Bonnie Raitt performs "Me and the Boys" with The Bump Band, chats with Dave, is later joined by Sippie Wallace, who then performs "Women Be Wise" with Bonnie and Dr. John. Sippie tends to sing "shit" instead of "shout," and it's not edited out of the broadcast.

Wow. Bonnie Raitt, Sippie Wallace, and Dr. John -- on stage, at the same time, doing a blues classic that let all three strut their stuff. For any who don't know Sippie Wallace, it's worth checking out recordings of her in her prime. She was an amazing performer.

I first knew the blues and rhythm and blues was my kind of music when I was still at school near Liverpool, England in 1961, just as the 'Merseybeat' boom was about to take off. Bonny Raitt is by far the greatest female exponent (in my opinion) of that genre. I can't wait to see her in Manchester, England next June. AND, that duet with Sippy is a CLASSIC. love it.

What a performance. Bonnie is terrific, but with Sippie and Dr John joining her at the end it makes it special. Came across Bonnie and Sippie on a Raitt collection I bought a few days ago. Their previously unreleased live recording of "Women Be Wise" is the stand out. Love the music but glad I don't live in the States. Ad. breaks must be very frustrating and Don did a good job tidying this clip up. Thanks man.

+Terry McCaffrey Cutting out the commercials was easy -- there were none. :) This comes from the master tape, which has full Late Night band music throughout the breaks instead of ads.

Am I so glad I started a search. Bonnie is phenomenal in the early 70's I lived in Cambridge and she did outdoor concerts for all of us. On another note, I was working for a video/film production company mid 70's in Watertown and she and others were working on a film about Sippie Wallace... I remember transferring the film to video for editing purposes and kept looking at this woman and saying, - - she looks like Bonnie Raitt... (it was) I have always wondered whatever happened to the film's production of Sippie Wallace...

That is Ian Mclagan of the Small Faces and Faces playing keyboards in the Bump Band backing up Bonnie on the first song. Rick Vito ( Fleetwood Mac,Bob Seeger and countless others)played guitar on the album Green Light. Although there were personnel changes, Ian Mclagan and the Bump Band were around right up to his passing in Dec 2014

I saw Sippie and Bonnie in San Diego around this time. I think it was at the Old Globe.....fun to see Bonnie on Dave but this album and a few others were the record company's attempt to make her sound fit the coming Eighties New Wave.....kind of a cross between Dave Edmunds and the Bus Boys....just not the bluesy Bonnie I love.
