Bonanza - Mr. Henry Comstock | Episode 09 | Western Series | FULL EPISODE

Фильм және анимация

Bonanza - Episode 09 - Mr. Henry Comstock - When threatened by a man fraudulently sold a part of the Ponderosa by a Henry T.P. Comstock, the Cartwrights remember when they first met the silver-tongued claim-jumper and his scheme that laid the foundation of Virginia City.
Mr. Henry Comstock
Director: John Brahm
Writer: David Dortort
Genre: Western
Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
Country: USA
Language: English
Release Date: 7 November 1959 USA
Filming Locations: Angeles National Forest, California, USA
Storyline:
As the Cartwrights return from moving the herd, they pause to cool off by the lake when suddenly a shot rings out. An old prospector accuses the Cartwrights of being on his land. He bought and paid for it and even has the deed. Although Ben tries to explain that the land is his, when he sees the deed he laughs and shows the boys. The land was sold to the prospector by Henry T.P. Comstock. The prospector doesn't know what's so funny, so the Cartwrights proceed to tell him the story of when they first met Mr. Henry Comstock.
Henry Comstock (Jack Carson) sits atop his mule about to be hanged by four men. He's been accused of claim jumping and they intend to put an end to that. Henry begs a moment to pray and proceeds to ask God why these men haven't heard the new goings on. The leader, Heck (Jack Mather) wants to know what Henry's talking about and Henry explains that Hang Town changed its name to Placerville and outlawed hangings in the city limits. He also claims that the city limits go clear to the top of the Sierras. The men decide they'll make the long trip and escort Henry out of town and hang him on the other side. Written on IMDb.com
Reviews:
"This Bonanza episode done in flashback tells the story of the founding of the Comstock Lode and the boom town of Virginia City. Once a booming metropolis Virginia City now exists with a skeleton population and just exists for the tourist trade. And it is nothing like you see on Bonanza.
As Jack Carson portrays him Comstock was an itinerant conman and we know little about him. Which for the purposes of this show is good because his story can be woven right into that of the fictional Cartwrights. He did in fact sell his interest in a claim in an alleged gold strike where silver was in abundance. "That dang blue stuff" as the episode refers to it as.
I always enjoy Jack Carson in whatever he does, drama or comedy, big screen or small. You will too." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com

My mom loves this show because she used to watch it with my grandpa and I love it because I used to watch it with her. Fun story: A few years ago I made a real size Pondersa map just like the one Ben has on his wall. I printed it on a real canvas in a specialized printer shop. Now it's on a wall at my mother's house.

I used to watch Bonanza as a kid and it must've been almost 20 years since I last saw it on tv. Been wanting to get the DVD's but availability is poor in my region. So I just thought "let's see if there is an episode or two on KZread" and what do we have here. Bless you my friend.

But then Joe shouldn’t have lured her away from her camp like that either without her father knowing where she was. He also put himself and a lot of people in danger with the Paiute. @@shirleymiller4219 That was the very first episode, although televised only a couple of months before this one. (1959). Joe was very young, although not a child - maybe 20, 21? So that whack was probably symbolic for what Ben wanted to do, but Joe was too old for. Also, when he threatened "to skin him alive"! Wishful thinking, just trying to put the fear of God into him. But, God, wasn't Joe handsome!!??? Enough to make any red-blooded female go weak at the knees:)). And he looked so funny when his dad was telling him off, like a little kid caught with his fingers in the cookie jar. But you've got to adore him, he's so cute. He's so mischievous, but there's not a mean bone in his body. The fact that he forgave Lotta so quickly after she deceived him is proof of that And when he leapt (literally) to the defence of the woman being slapped (Julia Bulette) ;D

They were stopped at the border and all of their mattresses and bedding was cut open or ripped up to see if they were bringing any bed bugs 🐞 or Cotton Boll Weevils into California. My brother worked in California as the Head Superintendent for the Highways 🛣️ of California and then he and his wife moved to Utah where they still live. He’s 96 and still flies his own airplane. His wife is 97 and up until a few years ago he and his wife could still beat their daughter in four wheeler races. I sent him a large plaque with an Eagle 🦅 on it that says “One Tough Old Bird 🦅 Lives Here”. He and his wife and his son and two daughters built the large two stored log 🪵 cabin where they live.

There are times on these Bonanza episodes when all you can say is "Oh brother......get real". Like at the beginning when they took turns shooting the old buffalo gun. I know I wasn't the only seasoned gun owner rolling his eyes. Adam estimated they were half a mile from those 4 guys way out there up on the mountain. At that distance you could just barely make out if there were even any people out there. Blow the hat off their head? With iron sights? Completely ridiculous. Even with a well sighted in scope you'd be lucky to make that shot at half a mile. Then Adam makes a quick shot and hits the microscopic canteen nearly dead center. That buffalo rifle cartridge would drive that bullet right through both sides of the canteen and kill the hell out of that horse. And going in the hole would be the size of a half to a silver dollar. That tiny hole the water spurted from looked like it was made by a .22 slug. Whoever their consultant was for guns and many other things should have been fired for major incompetence.

Pretty corny and shallow in the beginning... glad the series improved. I think a lot of that was due to Loren Greene's insistence that his character be deeper or he was leaving after the first season.

Columbus discovered America for the Europeans. Of course it existed before and people lived there before. But Adam was right in saying he discovered America for the Europeans.

@@rosalindayoung1088 I didn't say Columbus NAMED America. It was actually named after Amerigo Vespucci. And I agree with you 100% that the land was stolen from the Indians or Native Americans. I said Columbus discovered America for the EUROPEANS. It had obviously been populated for 1000s of years. Please read my post more carefully.

@@CathyKitson I did read it carefully and I just asked who named it, I never said you said he named it..never did, the reason for the question marks. I was asking you who named America because I couldn't remember the name entirely. What do u mean he discovered it for the Europeans?

@@rosalindayoung1088 My apologies, I must have misunderstood. What I meant was, that Europe was not aware of America's existence in 1492. When Columbus set out for the Indies on behalf of the Spanish monarchs, he thought he could just travel westwards and hit Asia that way. Then he found a huge continent in the way. So traditionally Columbus is known as the man who discovered America.
