Since I was a kid, I had the Encarta 96 Encyclopedia and what was covered on there was worldwide musical instruments. I always wondered how some of those worked. This video has certainly answered my question regarding the bonang.

kenong are lower in pitch,and are arranged in a U-shape of individual boxes for each pot. The bonang barung and bonang panerus (one octave higher) are arraned each on a frame that supports all the pots together.

@thecritiquevirtuoso Pat Sumarsam teaches primarily at Wesleyan but comes to teach the Javanese Gamelan at Smith as well. Wesleyan has the slendro set, and Smith has the matching pelog set.

I think these are just examples for each of the instruments. So, he chose to go with slendro. The Wesleyan Gamelan has both slendro and pelog instruments.

Sort of a bed... more of a framework that supports the pots by ropes strung through the frame. It's not tiny -- it's more or less the size of an actual bed.

err.. are those are pots on a tiny bed.?

what is the point of having a virtual instrument museum if the sound quality is absolutely awful. pains my ears.
