Hey Richie could’ve handle it better but he’s ex wife was a mess and daughter need him and Richie said on the stern show he broke his arm he hook in those pain killers ..I’m glad he left got spend more time with his kid if they get together or not I’m glad I got to seem them in there prime

This has been ongoing for years now. It's John Shanks and how he took over Richie's parts during recording. Richie was dealing with personal stuff, but he got "shifted". Jon couldn't just let go of Shanks as he's been a part of them since Have a nice day album. And Richie was crossed that he got ignored. So he left. That's why Jon keeps going on like a loop that all is OK between him and Richie. He can't say it's the other guy.

And Jon isn't being completely honest here when he did ignore Ritchie & he did use the other guy to record songs/write songs yet expected Rit hie to play the other guys guitar parts. Like the employee he treats ALL the other guys. Ritchie thought if you don't need me to write, you don't need me to show up for the gig. Plus Jon knew Ritchie was going thru extreme personal problems and his daughter needed him. I've met both & always thought Jon was the most polite & sweetest but no, Ritchie was himself & Jon well, walked into a room of 500 backstage ppl. I was staying at the hotel and was just there bc offered free front row gig that night and he made a beeline straight to me & asked me to go to another quieter party..I said yeah. Lol.

Jon and the rest of the band are a group of talented class acts ! Blessings! 🙏

But to be honest, they are nothing without Richie. They haven’t had a real hit ding and besides back in the day Bon Jovi they had a rule with the band as well. They fired the original bass player hey Siri because he told personal details and they keep personal stuff to themselves. They don’t tell the public so they’re not wanting to tell you what really happened they know and Bon Jovi himself just has a big ego controlling and I’m sure that’s what Richie doesn’t like and Richie is the one with the real voice and the real talent

I absolutely love that they still talk and there was no fighting or falling out.

I don't think they talk that much. I think this is what Jon says because, in case you haven't noticed, he always has to put on this persona of perfection. People are perfect and anyone who acts like they are is probably hiding a lot of ugly shit.

I do miss Richie. No offense to any of the new members but the magic of their harmonies or chemistry will never be replicated. Richie was definitely a driving force. Watched the doc 2 times and seems like that Shanks caused a little trouble....don't really care for him. Too bad Richie held his feelings back...maybe if they would've talked he would have stayed. Like he said he's sorry about the way he left....he didnt go about it the right way but I kind of get it. You can tell it hurt the guys.Glad to see that Jon doesnt speak badly about him. Ill always be a fan but ill always miss Richie.

Richie said in another interview that he felt they could also have approached him if they were a band and really friends. I agree with this. I've had friends who always expected me to be the one to approach them when there is an issue between us - that gets old. I also quit talking to those people until they finally made effort in the friendship. So I feel Richie's issues were not just professional, but personal between him and Jon.

It wasn’t Jon’s fault if Richie quit , he has a drinking problem back then . Don’t blame Jon for someone’s decision (to quit) it is his decision ,he was sorry for it , but don’t assume jon is an ass . He was nice to not say anything bad against a band mate .

Their latest album, Forever, is currently at #19 on Billboard. Richie has never had a solo album crack the top 100. Which brings me to you: How many #1 albums have you had? Everyone seems to forget that richie has a drinking problem and it’s impossible to work and/or communicate with an alcoholic, most especially if he’s in denial. He said he wanted to spend time with his daughter but went on tour with orianthi. What Richie says happened and what did happen just don’t add up. It’s a shame because he was a brilliant guitar player with a gorgeous voice. The reason Jon shanks and Phil X stepped in is because Richie wasn’t around and Jon wasn’t going to end the band because of someone else’s drinking.

His story has changed about why he left numerous times: HIs daughter, sick of touring, ex-wife's mental health. Ironically, he doesn't mention his own addiction issues as a reason why he left. Sad. Not good enough? That's right, his solo album had a #1 song on it. I don't ever recall seeing Richie have a #1 song off a solo album...in fact, his solo albums never even cracked the top 100. Richie's a GREAT guitarist...definitely added SO MUCH to the band. BUT -- he quit. Because he had alcohol issues. He didn't give a shit about the band, or the fans (or the 300 other people Bon Jovi employs for set-up crew, merchandising, stage crew, etc). No advance notice -- just didn't show up to play. Period - end of story. So, don't be a dumb ass and say Jon has no talent. (oh - as for "the first bass player -- you don't even know his name you're such a great fan...it's Alec John Such. They didn't say anything because he also had substance abuse issues and they didn't want to publicly embarrass him.) Smarten up dude.

Honestly I don't blame richie. The music under Jon's direction has become horribly bland. Isn't it funny how everyone OTHER than Jon still has life in their eyes, but Jon's face has no soul left?! You can see the arrogance in Jon.

Have you heard Ritchie's songs? I am beginning to wonder how much he really contributed to those BJ hit songs cos his songs are no good either and has made no impression since he quit the group. At least BJ is charting here and there but Ritchie is completely off rader with all his songs, no wonder he wants back into the group.

Richie left. It’s simple as that. And Jon has said countless times he’s welcome back if he picks up the phone and shows up. Neither of them are to blame; it said in the doco that Richie felt pushed aside but internalised it instead of talking about it. Jon wanted to go ahead and keep working without stopping and didn’t talk about it. They both didn’t communicate, Richie finally broke and left, and Jon blamed himself for it. Like a lot of relationships that end, it was a lack of communication. The door is open for Richie, but he doesn’t want to because he’s moved on. The Phil X and John Shanks hate needs to stop though; neither of them have done anything wrong other than take up a role that was offered to them. Shanks nor X wouldn’t have recorded a note without Jon asking him to. They’re both good people doing what they love.

He's only saying that he's welcome back because it's what the older fans want to hear and it makes him sound good. He really doesn't care. I think the other stipulation would be agreeing to a rough tour schedule. The reality is he needs to relax on that because it is a big reason his voice has been so bad for like 10 years now. He has been trying to hit some notes that are out of his range for a while now. Personally? I really enjoy Richie's solo work more than most (or all) of Bon Jovi's work in the 2k's. I really love his 2 new songs with Bob Rock. At this point I'd be fine with going to see Richie do his own thing live, but I think he doesn't like touring - which is why he won't be back as a member of Jon's backing band (because they aren't a real band).

I agree with you to a certain extent. As for your Phil X and John Shanks opinion, mine is that Phil X is not to blame and I don't think he is an issue. IMO Richie could come back to the band and play with Phil. I cannot disagree more about Shanks. It is not just that Richie felt displaced / replaced by and not needed because of Shanks (apart from his other personal issues). Richie didn't like what the band had become (if Bon Jovi is still a band) and where it's heading towards. Richie felt unsupported after his leaving too. He has worded all this openly and frankly now.

We don't really know why he did it that way. I don't blame Richie for it nor Jon for going on. That fact doesn't change my impression about Shanks bad influence on the band from 2000 on and it being a reason for Sambora to leave.

Well Richie still partially owns many of those songs since he is listed as a writer. He even plays them at his own live shows since he has a legal right to do so.

I don't get why Tico and David laugh when Jon says of that "so long awaited phone call". It shocks me. Richie may not have called on the phone, but publicly expressed his desire to come back to the band more than a year ago, and though I may be wrong, to me it is crystal clear he got no answer from any of them. What does that silence mean? How did Richie take that silence? Besides, both Richie and Jon have said they met recently at Jon's house to see part of the doc together. There was no need for a phone there. They had the chance to talk about it privately face to face then, clarify the situation and come to an agreement if they wanted. Please, stop that excuse of the never existed phone call. It's not needed anymore. Loved your music from the beginning 'till the early 2000s, BTW. Thank you. Take care, you all.

Why on earth would he be talking to the media of such desires and not Jon and the band? This is so unprofessional on all levels. You quit the band giving them no heads up, after almost a decade you now desire to return and you chose to use the media to communicate to your collegues? If that is not madness I don't know what that is, unless he is weaponizing media and the fans to put pressure on the band to take him back.

The main thing is if Jon can sing live anymore.

Ritchie left the band because he didn’t get to record a guitar part of a song and was upset that someone else did it. He came the next day and said basically wtf and that was the beginning of the end.

@@stephjovi except it wasn’t bad. It wasn’t their best but there are some really good songs on What About Now. If Richie had stayed on the tour no one would have given it the flack it gets. They said in interviews before they even recorded the album they (Jon and Richie) wanted to experiment with a lighter, pop-rock production following The Circle. I’m With You, Pictures of You, Thick As Thieves, What About Now and Because We Can are solid songs. Again, not their best, but not bad by any means. Richie didn’t show up to sessions, so Jon went ahead with who he had. They’ve only themselves to blame for lack of communication, Shanks was just hired to do a job.

We have to remember back then Richie was an alcoholic while Jon has always been a workaholic. The band probably should have waited for Richie to heal rather than having Shanks do his parts. They're both to blame. Jon knew how Richie would react but didn't care. He wanted to get it done. As a result, Richie built up resentment which festered over time culminating in him not returning. It's bad all around anyway you look at it.

Rockband?! John, Brian, Tico. Especially Jon, Honestly Have You ever really, really, but really asked Richie why he left? From point of view some fans it's seen that You let that JS started to matter more than anything. Rock was replaced by pop and dance in Bon Jovi. In my opinion Richie tried to ask You to calm down a little bit, recharge battery. Maybe he cared about Your voice according to killing number of shows? Heh? Besides What about now doesn't sound like Bon Jovi anymore as next albums. E. g. Knockout or Born Again had a rock potential but they are pop-dance songs. What is this fault? Production and no hearable guitars?!

Sambora said he wasn't particularly thrilled with the documentary and it was all Jon's point of view, not his.

They were ok as a band but definitely not my favorite but to each their own. 😊

It was actually his band, else why would Ritchie do an audition before Jon to get in? This fact has been clear from the start, it's only later u c Ritchie trying to indirectly make an issue of it.

It's time those who interview Jon, David, Tico and Richie stop asking about this. The FANS WANT TO SEE HIM REJOIN BON JOVI. By constantly asking about it in interviews you just keep ripping that wound open. STOP ALREADY! Good grief! Let those four LEAVE THE PAST WHERE IT IS. ~APRIL LIPKE

@melissas4874 Without Richie, Tico, David and Alec, there would have NEVER been a Bon Jovi. It took ALL five of them on stage, plus their toad crew, family, friends...and definitely the fans. At their Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Induction, when Tico was describing his band mates, he said "Richie was the soul". He wasn't wrong. As a solo artist, Richie is a gifted lyricist and musician in his own right. I've always loved Richie's solo work. I found it rather interesting how Jon's degrading opinion of alcoholics and addicts changed AFTER he got a call that his own daughter "accidentally" overdosed while she was in college. That really sucks, I'm glad she recovered and wish that on no one. Life has a way of teaching us that perspective is everything. 😉 In my not so humble opinion. On Richie's KZread channel, The Real Sambora, he wrote and performed a song Takin' A Chance On The Wind. The acoustic version is AWESOME!❤️ ~APRIL LIPKE

He is doing interviews saying he will go play with BJ if Jon gets better. I doubt they want him any where close to the band.

Jon has aged so badly.

Sambora always looks high. He claims to quit the band for his daughter yet spent much of time with a woman less than half his age. His is very talented but clearly unprofessional now for a well-oiled machine that is the Bon Jovi brand.

i love the band.

He did not see the signs about Richie being burned out, Jon just wanted to keep moving, and that is fine, but Jon had his plan B when he brought Shanks, I think the Documentary is almost one sided

Yeah, I think Ritchie was like a real brother and a close friend to him. I think that was very difficult to get over and watch not necessarily the working relationship.

It’s clear that John is not interesting to get back with Ritchie … he still blame his partner for leaving the band bla bla bla.. not even considering all the problems he went through with alcool and situation with his daughter… let’s be honest John ignored all this.. he could just goes like: hold on.. our brother having a hard time with his life and family… we must take care of him… tour can be rescheduled… we don’t have money problems… we can handle it But nope… he prefer to care the tour… and here it is Back 11 years after… he cannot sing it all.. well .. I don’t mean to be bad but… this is Karma 🤷🏻‍♂️ And he still act bleaming his partner… Nothing good will come up

I think Jon always wanted to be a pop star and when you see him sharing a billboard on the highway with Rhianna and Ed Sheeren as I did. If your a guitar player with any kind of edge and I mean any. You’d probably want out. 😂

I thought Jon said he didn’t want him back in band and I thought they did talk because Jon said Richie wasn’t ready and Richie had recording of them talking! Which is it!

Even though he says there was no fight. Ritchie did say his daughter needed him It says a lot though that you can't talk to your band members. Things couldn't have been that good. Ge has apologized to the fans.

I personally think Ritchie had to always play second fiddle and that would wear on anyone. I was a Ritchie fan. He was better looking, a better musician and a way better singer. At some point you have to realize you minimized your own talent for fame. No amount of alcohol can make you forget that. Now he's an old man who helped create a legacy for the name BonJovi not Sambora.

Jon is so full of it. Yes him and Richie made magic music once . Richie have told the whole world for over a year that he want back. He evan had earmarked new songs for Bon Jovi. Jon doesn´t desev Richie.

Since when did Ritchie ( without Jon) start writing songs for BJ, who commissioned him? Which successful song has he been able to write for himself as a solo artist since he quit the group?He has not been part of the group for over 11years, why on earth would he think he can suddenly want in and get in just like that? BJ is an organization, no one leaves any organization in this world, the way he did, and suddenly expects to be able to waltz back only when he realises his solo career is not panning out the way he expected.

Plus the person he should be talking to is Jon and the band and not the world, because from recent interviews it's clear he has not spoken to them about this desire. Guess he is weaponizing the fans to put pressure on the band to take him back.

I love both of them Jon is smarter Richie is the better musician It was both there faults Richie wouldn't show up Jon betrayed Richie They just need to forgive each other that's all.

I’m surprised the woman even asked that question we all know he left almost 12 years ago. He just can’t do it anymore. Remember, he’s a lot older than the rest of the band members the guy 66 years old. OK his daughter maybe be doing some producing riding but just chilling out you don’t realize when you’re in your late 60s mid 60s you wanna do other shit tour man so it’s over it’s over.
