    One way the shelters could be better concealed would be to instal fake air pipes and a false hatch in a more noticeable location, where when you get it open it looks like the shelter has caved in like the hidden valley bunker in fallot new vegas, just something to consider.

    What if it rains? Does it flood? I've heard of that problem occuring in a family who survived a tornado. The tornado caused debris to fall on the hatch and water to pour in. They were saved by a neighbor who had ran over to check on them as he had known they did have an underground shelter.

    Awesome as always, I love the ladder thing. What I'm wondering about the bunk is the padding doesn't look very comfortable, surprised you didn't leave the client to fill it with their own matress of their choice? Other thing is it looks thinner than usual, not standard? Lastly, I've always suspected folding beds/bunks could have a sort of void or ledge or be set from the wall slightly to accommodate for the bedding? Bunkers are already a disciplined place to stay long term let alone with friends or family etc, so aside from making the bed etc I think if stripping the bed daily is a thing it could surely be avoided? :O :)

    I'm pretty sure there is a whole protocol that is employed in the event of a disaster in your area...like you have let all your family members know to come dig out the hatch after your house collapses. If tge whole world goes at the same time then maybe you're better off trapped inside, lol!

  • @WardenWolf
    @WardenWolf3 жыл бұрын

    The question I have, is how does this mitigate prompt radiation? It doesn't have an L bend. Is it just not an issue because it goes more or less straight down and the angled ceiling means it simply couldn't hit the living area? The other concern I have is fallout settling directly on the hatch; not a major issue if installed under a house, but if installed standalone that could be a major risk since that radiation would come directly down into the living quarters.

  • @jimg.8803
    @jimg.88034 ай бұрын

    If you're getting this because of a nuclear bomb attack or even a bioweapon, shouldn't the main concern be the air filtration unit and how it handles radioactive isotopes and viruses? Also, this seems to be more of a tornado shelter since there's no toilet, shower, or how one deals with cooking and garbage? Plus the temperature below ground is a constant 50F. What about temperature control? How are you generating electricity if there's a nuclear attack? You really think the grid will be active?

    I built a pseudo bomb shelter in my basement based on the early fifties basement shelter and concealed it from local property tax assessor by covering the outside walls with cut in thirds empty moving boxes. What happens when the debris blocks the hatch? What happens when that debris is burning? It seems foolish not to have the hatch in side a hardened CMU room, with a concrete lid and an inward swinging fire door. The air duct routing seems like yet another problem... fire or debris could render that useless, but I suppose there's a fair amount of air in the room if it's a storm shelter... not so good as a bomb shelter.

    I thought its a two dimensional view, you don't think it has two? This guy has always made two entrances/exits as long as I've seen his stuff :o I can't imagine how the heat of a fire above might affect the occupants within, as it'll just be on the top and presumably little contact with most the area burried even from above. If a second exit, I still see no issue. What's a CMU room? Also what makes you think it won't be burried in concrete? :S surely that's standard :s

    The only shelter design i would ever consider would be one that has a shielded vertical side door that opens IN so if something lands next to it the door wont be jammed. I realize this pretty much dictates a berm installation, but thats what i would.feel safer in.

    Yeah flawed design, without a second escape hatch, if house collapse, would most likely seal you in, should also have away to communicate with emergency services if that were to happen, stairs would be a better option for a host of reasons, make them so the can be lifted up for storage like attic stairs, also add the ability to have a restroom and running water.

    Can only be entered by a steep ladder -- so only suitable for agile people. No second entry/exit in case that ceiling entry is covered by a collapsed building. No toilet, no shower, no solution for dealing with food waste, dirty diapers, etc. So, if you were trying to protect your family against radioactive fallout, can you imagine spending two weeks inside one of these with a toddler, the family dog and grandma? Just imagine the stench by day 14. This design needs a lot more work.

    I think this model is just for tornados and bad storms not for hunkering down in a bunker. I do see on their website where you can upgrade them to include a shower, toilet, decontamination area and under the floor storage. I think for longer term sheltering you would need an actual bunker and not just a shelter. This is great for those on a limited budget though. I'd rather have one of these than have nothing at all.

    This was made for more tornadoes and quick access from inside the house, when you are on the site, it will say that, he has actual bomb shelters with the 90 degree turn, and escape hatch. But I agree it isnt anywhere near useful for radioactive fallout.
