So after 10 hours on the 22 model yz 125 cc I can honestly say it’s very close to perfect stock imo . The only faults I could find were Jetting - I changed to the nydf needle Oil ratio - I now use 40:1 -98 octane Gearing - 2 teeth lower to be in the right rev range out of corners thanks to you 👌 Shifting recall - I was emailed by the local shop to bring it back as this model has a shifting issue eg unable to shift gear . No issues with mine yet . Thanks for the best bike reviews on KZread. This gytr kit looks and sounds so bad ass 👍🏼👍🏼look forward to more on this

Most said the jetting was off but it should be good STOCK. Be consistent w/premix oil brand & 32:1 or 40:1 ratio to make it last! Get best fuel you can too. They have very good octane boosters out do the research. 93 premium fuel + 4 capfuls of my octane booster gives me 100 octane unleaded. 👍👍

Are you sure the carb is bigger for the 22? Yamaha switched from Mikuni to Keihin, but they are both 38mm carbs, which is 250 size,---so I don't expect much low or mid-range out of the YZ125's. Trying to keep up with the 4-strokes for some reason IMO.

  • @EarthSurferUSA

Yamaha's GYT-R kit is probably a pretty good guarantee that you are getting the pipe, compression and porting that is all matched well together, and that means good power. The different combustion chambers would allow you to get the most out of any gas you can get, (I assume). That kit is not messing around, (and i have not seen it run, (jetted well?), yet. But is it worth it? Your still not going to keep up to a good 250 4-stroke on a fast/smooth 4-stroke track, (like the one in the vid). So I hope the kit has a really good mid-range, and not all top end.

You don't look like a 150lb guy, and that set up moves you well for a 125. It does seem to get in the power pretty easily, and you ride pretty well. I wish you would have showed the Dyno curves in the camera more. What is the claimed peak HP (at the wheel I hope)? It might be getting close to 40 hp. If you lower the suspension an inch, it will be even more fun to ride. At 5'9" tall, I took an inch off my 2019 YZ250 seat, and .75" off the suspension, and it feels wonderful in the corners. I see Husky is making a shorter version of their MX bike, and I think it will catch on.

i agree with the sprocket set up and carb adjustment making a HUGE difference. obviously the carb settings are relevant to fuel type , location , temps etc. but i went from the OEM 75 , to the provided 72 pilot. left the needle , and main . but found the mild leaning on the pilot to make low end way less boggy . they from factory make them overly rich intentionally . the sprocket however made a big difference also . i actually went with a 14T front ( 13t from oem ) and a 48 T rear ( 49T from oem ) . and it forced me to rev a little more down low , further correcting the mild richness , but it gave so much more top end . believe the calculator said id lose 10% down low , but gain 10% up high....which is where we ride these bikes. i definitely suggest people start small with their mods. but the little mods done make a BIG difference. i run a Bill's pipes MX pipe, with a PC TI/Kevlar silencer, and T2 VP Racing fuel and i havent dynoed , but id guarantee i make 7-10HP more than stock . the GYTR package isn't available in the US , or at least as of yet . , and ill wait till i NEED parts to go for it, but looks like a nice package. hope they sell individual parts like the CDI on their own at some point since i don't need half the parts from it . have a Wiseco piston , clutch , and GYTR pressure plate ready on hand when its time. and an Apex head i mildly modified .

Again, the all popular freestyle handle bar set up, (rotated forward for trick clearance). Now how can I be sure you are credible for anything else about the bike. Just because everybody else does it that way? :) Well, I will listen, and give you my expert opinion, and see if we adopted anything from trials or road racing. hehe Seriously, lower the ape hanger bars. My Pro Taper YZ bars, under the pad have rotation marks with "0" being popular today located in the middle of the clamp. I rotated my bars down so "2) is ion the middle of the clamp, and readjust my levers, and abracadabra, like magic, I have better front end control in the corners, and much easier to keep my elbows,--over the "lower" bars. Good thing you guys don't have bumps on MX tracks anymore, that would throw us to the ground, (like it did Sexton at the last 2022 national) if we had our elbows by our waists. It scares me to see the entire industry go irrational with the bar set up, (par for the course, since the world is going irrational.). Learn from the age of reason in MX, the 80's. You will crash less.

Been seeing jetting it more like a pwk generally are it's better. So far pilot and mains like a yz250 has been better settings. Yamaha has really gone with a rich pilot leaner main. So boggy loaded up on the bottom lean up top. Yz125 needles unique to 22.

  • @rjbcscs69

Bingo. All the negative press about it being soft on the bottom and a mid/top motor is tuning related. I took the same approach as my YZ250 as well. It crushes the previous gen on bottom end torque and makes far better and smother mid to top now that the carb settings are correct. Anyone running pilots in the 70's and 60's is completely missing the mark.

  • @EarthSurferUSA

125, usually depended on higher rpm power, but I can tell my 250 was made to try to keep up with 4-strokes on fast tracks. So I fixed it, because racing 4-strokes is a waste of energy on a 2-stroke. Nobody who wants to do well can race them,---so why bother filling a demographic that does not exist? People buy them because they are good, (but way too tall.), less expensive easier to work on than a 4-stroke, and take more talent to ride. They are not trying to make a career racing MX. Thank goodness it has a fine frame and suspension, so all you have to do is lower it and make the engine more what you want/need/can enjoy,---unless you are trying to keep up with 4-strokes on a fast track.

Yamaha what the hell are you DOING? First we wait forever to get something new and the ugliest yz125 with 2001 Kawasaki kx125 plastic almost an exact copy is on it. R Tech's kit for $600 complete with tank is wayyy better looking, or look at the Fantic bikes, they're amazing. Why cant the japanese have any style, I guess their too busy crunching numbers in their heads to even think about how something looks. Next and heres the big one, an entire "new" engine with a whooping one bhp INCREASE, WTF!?! IS THAT A JOKE YAMAHA. All the best engineering in the world and you release a dog thats slower for most people unless your a ripper from the get go, and most are not. Why DETUNE the engine the first year out? At least release some more bhp then what a PC pipe would do on last bikes for $220 usd. This is a god dam joke Yamaha. Time to release either a firebreathing STOCK bike for the masses, or a entry level 125 great for everyone off the showroom floor?!? Complete fail Yamaha. What should have been released for 2022 should have been good as last years 125 GYTR bike, and then improved yet, and then that bike sold with all the GYTR STUFF THERE STOCK AND NEW. WHAT WE GOT, is a dog with barely one bhp more, HORRIBLE styling, and pro level powerband making the demographic this bike is for, forgotten. What should have been sold was the full GYTR BIKE at minimum, but wait the fastest guys need another 3k for additional parts to make it competitive with the Bajaj indian bikes...and when the new Bajaj 125 comes out, Bajaj probably has 5 or more bhp over YAMAHA. So yamaha will sell them all for one, its dirt cheap compared to the almost 10k Bajaj bikes OTD, and its now a beginner bike that still needs another 3k to match the new Bajaj bikes in power...GIGANTIC FAIL YAMAHA
