It's time for the return of Bolt Action Locked & Loaded! This time the guys are talking about some of the tactics you can explore during your World War II games concerning High Explosive Shells.
What do you think though wargamers? Is 'HE' the way to go when you need to force your opponents to shift out of that nice bit of cover they are hunkered down in?

Light howitzer is an awesome gun. Cheap, d6 HE at +2 pen. Can fire direct and indirect. A must take for all games. Unless you have a medium howitzer, which is even better. 2d6 at +3, cheap point wise, awesome.

I think I'd go for the pin on the lower roll of 3+ (or modifiers up to 6) and turn one of the opponents troops into a red mist/hamburger spray than go indirect. But then again, it depends on the target unit.

These are the old rules. Has the direct/indirect fire changed in second edition?

A mortar will keep the howitzer busy, over time the mortar will hit it and if a howitzer wastes that thret a ona mere little mortar the threat for the other units is off... I think the howitzer sems very usfull though, as it can fire directly if no nice non moving targets are around (unlike mortas).

Shame you did not cover a direct fire hit with HE.
