Great battle report! Some really unfortunate activation rolls for the US and really lucky rolls for the Germans, especially on the exceptional damage. Don't think I've ever seen so many NCO's get taken out. Just remember that flame throwers don't suffer the penalties for down and they always get the +1 to hit point blank bonus since they only have a 6" range, even if they are getting a -1 for long range, which is counter intuitive. Lots of stuff to remember while also talking and filming. I know I forgot a bonus or negative or two when I did a couple of battle reports with MiniWarGaming.

Yes, it was a bit of a unfortunate game! But turn out ok in the end 👍🏻 I think we got the flamethrowers correct, we do get the rules, they ignore cover and down, i believe we spoke about this in the game… and yes the point blank vs long range is strange, but need to be within 3” to get point blank and not long range! I believe the main issue with the down was around the supporting pioneers and the flak quad… saved a few GI’s! We sometimes miss rules, or more, we forget in the heat of the moment as it is difficult to keep on top of them whilst filming, but hopefully we got most correct. Thanks for the comments.

@@theministryofminiatures Right. So at 3.1"- 6" the long range and point blank modifiers cancel out. Same with pistols. The flamethrower would have hit at 1:35:00 on the 4. Like I said, not a big deal. Lots of little modifiers going back and forth and still a great game.

@@aruss1yes you are right, it is easy to miss the modifiers sometimes, especially when filming! Fortunately it didn’t change the result of the game. One to focus on in future reports as it is harder the longer the battle! Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻

Just awesome Battle reports you guys are doing there. This is the third video I watched and it is also a blast. How could I miss you before? One question: 1:38:50 assaulting. Because there is a fence you roll both dice simultaneously?

Thank you much appreciated, glad you liked it, hopefully you gave us a 👍🏻 When assaulting the nearest guys are measured, if there is no barrier between them you dont count it as a barrier, so Rick goes first due to there being no barrier between mine and his nearest guys…. Much as I would have liked to go simultaneously!

I may have missed it, but where are those buildings from? Awesome video!

Thanks for the comment, much appreciated 👍🏻 The buildings are from a mix of suppliers: Sarissa Precision, Micro Art Studio and Empires at War, some have been modified a little 😉

Hi, which edition of the rules for HE vs buildings do you prefer? We don't play with as many buildings in your battle so we fudge and mix both editions.

Hi, I didn’t really play the original version… I like the templates method as I see that as the blast radius of the explosion… however HE for buildings uses a dice to determine number of hits… I think we need to just have the templates and amend for buildings accordingly. What are your thoughts?

You did HE against the sniper in the building wrong. The sniper team would take D3 hits from hitting the building.

After using the flamethrower you should have rolled a die to see if it jams on a roll of 1 then you go off the table…overall good game

We did, you might want to re check! Ricks were fine, mine ran out of fuel and i lost the man, he was removed from the game… Rick rolled lots of sixes for his fuel check… lucky bugger! Glad you enjoyed the game.

US doesn't take movement penalties on rifles, bar's. Likewise no one takes movement penalties on smg's or ar's.

Haha! Yes, I play US often, if you listen I always add movement to my commentary, but will say movement 3, so people know it has been considered, same with smg’s. Hope this clarifies 👍🏻

I don't have the Battle of the Bulge supplement book. But can u take 2 x Sturm pioneer squads? Also why are u taking inexperienced troops that form part of an elite unit ... r u trying to represent something? At one point some of these men swam across an icy deep river to fight against US troops emplaced in thick stone building and were slaughtered.. Do let me know.

Could be any number of reasons but my top 2 would be historical point, or making a unit fit the point agreement over the more expensive veteran type.

Rick needed to fit the troops into the army, he explains at the end around his options… and also knows he has the buildings for cover and extra protection. Also, he also explains Peiper was known to take flamers and this represented that… I’m not sure which book or list he used for his army, I am sure he will update his choice, I previously people have mentioned similar concerns, but he is able to give the reference to the army list. Hope this helps?

Kampfgruppe Peiper Reinforced Platoon is in the Battle of the Bulge Campaign book and you can take four SS pioneer units!!! As for inex units I wanted to be thematic, Peiper pulled most units out of Cheneux but left in some of his greener troops behind. I also wanted to take a tank, but a P4 is not competetive so I took it as cheap as possible. So to keep the order dice count high I took inex units. The MMG is overpriced at 50 points regular anyway so I took them inex, at 35 points.

Your army was very thematic, really felt like a mixed bag dug in to take on the advancing Americans! Not sure how much longer I could have held on, close, tense and enjoyable game - thanks Rick 👍🏻
