Using the boat momentum to close the gates!!!

Beautiful boat, great handling of it in the locks! Especially liked you using the forward momentum of the boat to pull the lock gate closed as you were entering.....pretty smooth!

Working down from Kidsgrove in the rain! Great memories with Maple over the years between 1984 and 2012. In the early days the stove was always on at the back with some excellent coal from Wulfrona in Wolverhampton.

Talvez por na minha infância ter convivido com embarcações chamadas de " bateira " dando passagem várias vezes por dia a pessoas de uma margem a outra do rio, é que eu gosto tanto desse tipo de embarcação. Talvez por eu ter convivido com meu avô " Antônio " por parte de mãe, em uma olaria fabricando tijolos, e que a mesma era movimentada por um motor "a óleo" e que o barulho de tal motor marcou a minha vida. Muito obrigado aos responsáveis pela realização desse vídeo, e pelo bom trabalho.

Nice to see the old skills being employed. I remember in the early days of hire boating on the Grand Union in the 1960's watching the remaining working boats doing the same. Back then the lock gates had bollards fitted to them to facilitate closing them with the boats. As hirers we were instructed not to copy them. Same applied to not dropping the paddles. There was far less maintenance of the canals back then.
