Bold New Consensus: Anand Giridharadas and Dorian Warren in conversation

Anand Giridharadas & Dorian Warren in conversation on visioning a winning narrative framework and persuading the public that a just and equitable future is within reach.
The Economic Security Project in partnership with the Roosevelt Institute, Community Change and the Hewlett Foundation invite you to come together with some of the brightest and boldest thought leaders of today, growing power for public good and raising a new political economy.
We are thrilled to host this year’s event at the Cooper Union, which has a deep history of bringing people together around big economic ideas, from groundbreaking presidential speeches to the earliest workers’ rights campaigns in this country. A perfect setting to pass the mic to some up and coming leaders and collectively set the stage for progressives winning on economics. We know it’s going to take all of our collective efforts to raise this new political economy and we need you in the room to pave that road.

I like this analysis. I feel like community organizing DOES build political homes...but the institutions of the "left" are mostly oriented away from organizing. To change these dynamics requires a different kind of leadership. Warren is an example of the kind of leadership we need for this.

Why compare the US with Norway? How about Germany? Thirty percent of the people living here were born somewhere else. If there is one highly obvious American trait, which seems to transcend all other political and cultural categories, it is this obsession with being exceptional.

As a leftist, I would say that Giridharadas is, at best, half right about things. While I appreciate his enthusiasm, claiming the choice being offered voters is between fascism and progressive democracy ignores many of the complex and often ugly realities of life in the USA. It might be true at some level, but it's mostly a lie, and many of us are tired of hearing these lies. The choice we're actually being offered is between authoritarianism, authoritarianism-lite, and third-party protest. If you expect me to vote for the lesser evil, you need to explain how that will help in the long run. Bottom line: Better storytelling will not alter the many ways the pull towards fascism is baked deeply into our systems.

That's not true. Biden is not a lesser of evils. He was presided over the strongest economic recovery in modern history, is the most pro-union president since FDR, is revitalizing US manufacturing, is ushering in a new era of clean green energy, is rebuilding US infrastructure, is forgiving tens of billions in student loans (despite the Supreme Court's nonsense), is filling the federal courts with the most diverse judges in history, is rallying the world around Ukraine against the murderous dictator Putin, is protecting LGBTQ rights, is working to protect women's rights, and the list goes on. Anand IS right. This is a choice between good and evil. Is Biden perfect? Of course not. But he is a good man doing lots of good things for the American people and the public good. The GOP is a fascist death cult of racism, violence, lies, and grift. It's a simple choice. Please help everyone make the right one.

netscrooge is right. It's the same old story: the Democratic Party controlled by powerful interests who are still able to use that pulpit to denigrate true socialist-like progressive movements.

Agreed. The electoral college isn’t a democracy. Neither is the senate nor the house. The “rigging stuff” he talks about is built into the system. The system is Fascist and needs to be rebuilt. He’s talking about Marketing a party. Joe Biden won’t change.

😂 you guys really need to vet who you bring on your show because this guy might as well work for MSNBC or CNN lol. Actually you could have probably saved yourself money by just turning on MSNBC and asking questions to the Talking Heads because the answers he's giving are their answers for everything that are blatantly false. It is also highly concerning that this guy says that people who vote for president Trump think of him while they're making love and I find that highly disturbing and offensive. If you look at the African-American vote in this country there is a real true reason that this speaker apparently cannot grasp that they are going to vote for president Trump and for good reason. He actually did something for the middle class whereas the Democrats and the progressives are not. The Democrats and progressives want to raise your taxes which means you have less of your money at the end of the day for things that you may need or want. Under Democrat control you will definitely need to have raises constantly so you can make the same amount of money while you're paying more into the government after taxes are paid. And no I am not a crazy white supremacist, I'm a gay conservative.
