Hollyhock really does bring out the most wholesome Bojack. In (spoilers) episode 9 notice how Bojack puts more effort into controlling his temper around her! I hope in season 6 we get to see more of her :). Edit: oof....

Even though this occurs before his major development, I have to hand it to Bojack for moderating himself on alcohol. Even though he waits until the very first instant of the next day, he doesn't exceed the daily limit on the bottle, that shows progress on his self control.

I’m scared, what if she says this season’s “fuck”?

It was hard witnessing Bojack lose Hollyhock. I dated an alcoholic and I still care super deeply about him but he is destructive and ignorant to the fact he is an alcoholic. Im not the first person he has lost due to it and I wont be the last. Believe me I tried to hold on as long as I could and now he hates me because I "abandoned him", but he did it to himself. Addicts are such hard people to love and I hope people dont have to deal with the loss of watching people destroy themselves

I'm sorry about your situation. It's hard to hold on to those people. You try to help them, but if they don't want to recieve help it can be very difficult. Sadly sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is to let them go if they're also damaging your life as well.

You did the right thing. People who make you feel guilty for abandoning them really do not understand that in order to truly love/care about someone, you have to care about yourself first. You're not doing any good to anyone by sacrificing yourself for them or letting them abuse you. In fact, you're enabling them. I would call that person who commented above an asshole because it's so fucking typical of these damaged egocentric people to use guilt feelings to keep you chained to them, but I also understand that it's hard to be left alone. It's just... if they keep leaving you, maybe you could consider the fact that it's your fault. It's not always that simple of course.

I love how Hollyhock knows what he's trying to say and doesn't take what he says at first personally cause she knows him and I really love that

It's sad because Bojack really *tried* for Hollyhock. He let himself be vulnerable and accepted her kindness. She sees through his walls and he's happy when she says that she misses him or that she loves him. Hollyhock had to think of herself when she cut him out of his life, and it was a healthy decision. But I can't help but wish that in the future they can reconnect, because Hollyhock really did bring out the best in Bojack and the bond they shared was very special. Having a little sister, someone to put first, made Bojack a better man.

well logically you’d have to hold it between your mouth and your ear so you can both hear and speak into the phone (without having to move it around a bunch), which is what they were doing

The fact that he does make calls like this in the middle of the night is probably why she got her number disconnected altogether instead of just blocking him. It probably wasn't worth it to keep the number in case he got drunk/high and called her in the middle of the night using someone else's phone or a landline. (Spoilers) This turned out to be really good foresight given what happened between BoJack and Diane in the penultimate and finale episodes. BoJack's attempted suicide really traumatized Diane and effectively ended their friendship. Just think of how badly it would have affected Hollyhock had she been in Diane's position instead. Sorry BoJack, it's for the best right now.

No, she just blocked Bojack's contact. She cut off Bojack. He was toxic, not because of the calls. The calls were cute and she liked that aspect of the relationship; what she didn't like was the relationship as a whole. "Sorry BoJack, it's for the best right now", no, you're not getting it. The letter she sent Bojack was to tell him that she doesn't want him in her life anymore. The relationship is GONE. Forever. Never ever. There's no "for the best right now", it's just "for the best".

@Erika Ziegler Your point stands but it's hard to keep up on it's own two feet when the person who even attempted suicide in the first place, already was a person who had the toxic habits of *forcing* those situations onto other people. Bojack needed help obviously from the beginning, but he sought it from the wrong people. Instead of an actual physiologist, therapist, a medical professional, Bojack used his friends as mental and emotional copes. Also, notice how Diane isn't like, some friend that Bojack has had for over ten years or something. Diane at one point was simply a business relationship, nothing more nothing less, so to literally be that one person who was ultimately Bojack's end all be all, that's a *huge* responsibility. Also, can't forget the fact that Diane herself was going through emotional turmoils, her own mental battles. She couldn't handle her own depression, why should she be expected to be the babysitter for a mid-life drunk asshole *who literally forced all of his bullshit onto everyone else.*

@Erika Ziegler Just because you had a shitty childhood, a shitty life, it doesn't give you the excuse or a "pass" to be an asshole and expect the people around you to constantly be the ones holding you up or supporting you, and I say this as someone who's an only child and hasn't had the most stable of an upbringing myself. I have a myriad of issues whether it's childhood related, or not, but it doesn't mean I'm allowed to have a suicide pass. It doesn't mean I'm allowed to use drinking, weed, or abuse similar substances because I happened to have a "bad day". It especially, doesn't matter if someone has co-dependent issues or even a personality like that. Bojack isn't autistic, Bojack for the most part can *function* normally, which means that in many times in his life he has been clear-headed enough to stop what he's doing and go "Hey, maybe I should get a control on this. Maybe I should actually go to rehab and do this seriously." You get to a certain point in your adult life where you aren't allowed to have pity or sympathy, *especially* if you piss away your chances at redemption.

Hollyhock is adorable. I hate how Beatrice brought up how she "would" look good and to gallop when she walks.

NikyStudios honestly I can’t blame her for cutting ties with Bojack. She knows about the things he’s done in the past how much of a toxic influence he is to everyone around him. When the truth came out about Sarah Lynn’s death and the fallout of it, she wanted nothing to do with it.

Him being her brother doesn't mean shit, he is toxic and she needed to cut him out. Actions have consequences and sometimes they last a lifetime. He is responsible for what happened to Sarah lynn, as well as betraying those closest to him multiple times for his own self gain. He's an old man who's led a path of destruction and who finally reaped what he sowed.

Like... damn. I always come back to this show and... I don't think it's about wanting forgiveness for others. I think it's about him forgiving himself and others in his past. He probably was thinking that if he could finally get himsepf under control... if he could have one person in his life, who was family no less, then maybe he could finally pull himself out of the tar. What's sad is even though he tried his hardest... He couldn't get out. It's not about "being obligated to be forgiven" it's about being strong enough to forgive yourself and be the cure to your own poison... just his poison was too strong. I used way too much metaphor there but you get what I'm saying, right guy?

People and their relationships change over time, there's a good chance they'll reconnect sometime later in their lives when they're both in better places. I still see it as a sibling relationship. I've got a brother that's seven years younger than me, our relationship is like a much more healthier version of their relationship. That kind of age gap stops a lot of what's considered the traditional sibling relationship from brothers/sisters only 1-3 years apart. There's a lot more looking up to/out for as opposed to arguing and trying to out do the other
