Literally from episode one with as someone with severe BPD, anxiety, depression, all professionally diagnosed, he really really does portray BPD very well. But he definitely has it. It is one of the worst mental health disorders one can experience. Especially the terrible fear of abandonment, hating yourself, the suicidal ideation and sometimes attempts. It is awful. If you or someone you know think you have BPD or traits please get help and seek treatment. It is awful to go it alone.

i will always stand by that diane is bojacks fp, he always calls her when he has a lot of heavy emotions. he feels like he needs her attention and validation all the time. in s1 when he says “i need you to tell me that i’m good” to her, that couldn’t have come from anyone else only diane to have it mean anything to him, when she can’t say it, he spends the beginning of the whole next season trying to be “good” and improving himself (i think this was really just to show diane that he can be a good person) he also gets Very jealous when people get close with her. he’ll spilt on her sometimes when he feels like he’s being abandoned by her, or he finds someone else to give him attention. in s1 he has a whole plot of trying to stop diane and mrpeanut butter from getting married and break up. he kisses her once but other than that he never really shows any type of strong romantic or sexual attraction to diane, like he never talks about actually getting in a relationship with her or getting married, or even just having a sexual relationship with her. he just doesn’t want her marrying someone cause it means she cares about someone else more, and that is really what upsets bojack, i think him kissing her was really a last resort to get her closer with him. i think that whole story just shows how he wants to be the one who gets her most attention. he will always call diane, no matter where their at in their relationship, cause he doesn’t need her helping him he just needs her there. like in view from halfway down, that call with diane, when he relized she wasn’t in la to help him, they just talk and have normal small talk. bojack ends up surviving and not drowning. i think this kinda shows how much he depends on diane, literally life or death. she didn’t have to be there and drag him out of the pool, he just needed to hear her and talk to her (i also think bojack is diane’s fp as well for some reasons, that’s a whole other thing, but i think that’s a part of why their relationship is so toxic cause they are both each others fp), i have diagnosed bpd and this is FULLY what i feel like with my fp

As a person with BPD I find some of the things he says and goes through so relatable.
It’s crazy thinking about how different bojack would’ve turned out if he had a family that loved him and treated him like a person
I also suffer from bpd, and bojack horseman is the most relatable character I have ever seen. I felt like I learned a lot about myself watching the entire series.
Thank you for recognising, that Bojack has BPD, instead of Depression. However BPD, can also have other disorders mixed in with bpd, like, Anxiety, PTSD, C-PTSD, Eating Disorders, and more. causing BPD to be more complicated. I related to bojack. More then the other characters throughout the whole show. And I was diagnosed with BPD, 3 years ago. This disorder is very real. And people should be more aware of it. It's a condition that is extremely hard for everyone including the sufferer. I can't believe I relate to a cartoon horse-man fictional character. More than anyone in real life. :(
(In therapist's chair) So...have you ever seen a show called Bojack Horseman?
I have bpd and I can agree he have bpd!
Nice video. just a bit of clarification, wanda broke up with bojack because she couldn't deal with his negativity, and him being with Diane, who crashed at their place for a couple of months showed his true color. it was not because of the autoerotic asphyxiation episode, this is actually the episode when they said i love you to each other.
Thanks for doing video on this... a lot of people in my opinion got bojack sooo wrong. I see a lot of videos stating he’s a narcissist but I never saw him that way... he’s got borderline personality disorder. It drove my crazy seeing those videos about him being a narcissist when there are classic signs of BPD.

@@HagelBiscut no they can't? The whole borderline fear of "caring what other people think" too the point you think they will abandon you vus you think they don't like you anymore would never apply to a person with npd? My mom started treating me really different when I was dx with bpd around 2 years ago. I tried to get her to watch this show to understand how I felt and she didn't care enough to watch more than like 2 episodes. I'm gonna send her this video in hope she'll actually watch it, so thank you.

wonder how you'll doing now. Suggest distancing yourself from her. She's exactly the reason you have bpd to begin with, here again she's only showing her tendencies to neglect and avoid accountability, responibility and productive help or even understanding. Hope you didn't get dragged down into trying to make her understand, when she clearly didn't want to. I've been through exactly same shit. It's painful, becasue we always want empathy from our abusers, this is also actually one of the sources of desire for revange. But often it's healthier to just cut yourself off from any impact they have on you, don't rely on both positives and negatives you get from your abusers (even if only past abusers, if they're not really invested in owning up to their shit and being helpful). Wish you well, stay strong and respect yourself. I know that loving yourself is too much for now, but acting with respect is achievable, no matter how you feel about yourself. So hold onto it
I always related to Bojack and it was my favorite show when it was on, and still is really although I don't watch it anymore. With that said, I only got diagnosed with BPD a few weeks ago, and it definitely makes sense looking back to see that he had it as well. No wonder this show resonated with me so hard and so many people I know around me just don't get the appeal.
Im diagnosed with BPD and while watching Bojack i cried in alot of scenes because of how strongly i saw myself in him, thank you for this video, really informative.
Fun fact: bpd is the only disorder in the dsm-5 for which one of the diagnostic criteria is repeated self mutilating/suicidal behaviors. (I have bpd lmao)
As someone that has BPD, this is very accurate. I also relate to BoJack more than any other character. Great video - thanks for making it.
I was thinking the same although the emotional instability, the excessive anger and fear of abandonment are not so active as the other traits. But the impulsive one makes a perfect score and that's scary. Greetings from Bulgaria and please, excuse my English... 😅
Personally as much as i relate to having BPD with Bojack, the show can really bring out the toxic parts of my BPD and I have to step away from the show these days and remind myself, just cause I relate to him doesn't mean i should aspire to be him cause he's the worst parts of BPD and what he's done really was messed up.
This is a really good, well-researched and informative video. Love it
Informative and well done. Thank you for this.
I see so much of myself in bojack and often use the show to show people how my bpd affects me and feels for me
very well done video !!

I got diagnosed some days ago, and I decided to continue bojack after I broke up with my partner, and when I saw the episode with the auto-erotic asphyxiation, I immediately knew
He is very borderline, but I always thought he's bipolar, not just depressed. Reason for that is, that Bojack has a few manic episodes, depressed episodes and he also hallucinates at times. It's comorbid, but I feel like does go over peoples heads. Bojack has a mood disorder, everyone relates to him because he's depressed, but this is my whole issue with the show, they are good at representing depression, but none of the other mental issues or disorders are portrayed as well as depression is, and mental health issues don't only present themselves as depression. They're very sloppy with PTSD.

@@jamieenoshima5147 ther eis a portionnthat experiences psychosis, and I knew about that, but I also was of the opinion that when someone experiences hallucinations with BPD, it is indicative of a comorbid psychotic disorder alongside bpd, not necessarily a common symptom of bpd. Delusions are common, but I don't normally assume that someone who diagnosed BPD is also someone who has halucinated before. I still think Bojack in the show presents as bipolar first and comorbidity with borderline personality disorder second. At the very least, I think we can agree that he is not simply depressed...depression can look very different in many different people and Bojack fits the conditions for a person that could develop bpd, given his traumatic past, so to me, he is definitely not just depressed.
