Thanks for sharing! Gives a great perspective to people looking into their build and what to expect. No BS vid, I appreciate your helpful input. Keep up the great adventure. See you out there!
Well done Cam. Still cheaper than a Sahara and the additional equipment is more useful.
Good job , I actually thought it would have been a lot more. Good looking rig👌🤟 I mean the 300 , not you Cam 😅😅😅

The thing I find a bit surprising is just how anaesthetized to or accepting of just how much things have changed price/value wise over the last few years especially. I mean I remember when having a million bucks was a big thing but now it's pocket change if you need to buy a property in a lot of places. I had a young tradie here the other day and the work van he had and the place he had just bought were about a million in total. He was telling me what he thought our place was worth and it just seemed like a normal number to him. We don't even live in a city. Not having a go or anything but more just an observation on how things have changed. Maybe I'm just getting old. Nice looking thing btw and looking forward to seeing what you guys do with it. Thanks for the videos as always.
I have done the same pretty much. So you are not alone.
Good vid. I don’t know why you feel you need to be open honest and transparent - it’s nobodies business - but - While it’s a huge sum - if you look at a Sahara or similar you spend that and not have any of the gear you have. If I had $150k to spend on a car I would do exactly what you have done. Well done for being able to do it. 👍🏻

Adds bloody quick , lucky we love it tho hey
Cheers for that , very helpfull 🍻
Very informative. I know when we got our 2nd hand 200 series gxl the accessories quickly added up. It is good to have a base line to work from to help you with your initial budget. It sounds like a lot but when you look at all the features you have added it is pretty well priced. I have seen some of the American truck builds running at well over double of your total. You have ended up with a very capable and comfortable vehicle.
Hi Cam. Thanks for being so transparent. Save for the extent of the 12v work and the brands you have chosen, all of us would do the same if given the chance. It’s an awesome vehicle now, just amazing how things quickly add up. Looking forward to seeing what you, Tiff and the kids do with it Cheers
What a great tourer you've built. 👍👍
Thanks Cam. Very informative and well done again. Our GX 300 isn’t modified quite as much. Have spent under half as much on ours. I did add a FFM airbox to ours & I am also waiting for Safari to bring out their GX snorkel kit.

Amazing build, appreciate you bringing us along. I’m interested in the theory of the solar on the roof for your swag trips? Guessing the swags just go up on top carefully for travels and you go without the solar for the drive which obviously isn’t a big deal? Cheers 👍🏼

Downtheshedwithbyron Don't know how old yor GQ is, but hang onto it. Modern 4x4's are stuffed with more and more electronic components, wich make them unsuitable to be repaired in the bush. People who had sudden "codes" coming up on there dashboard and then driving in limp mode( if the ECU let's them) can verify this. So, repair it - Don't sell it
Looks like I have to save a bit harder. What a fit for purpose setup. 👍

Thanks Cam & Tiff, I am sure this will assist others in planning their budgets. I reckon you did okay and TBH, thought it would be higher. I have a 2019 200 VX tourer with similar style touring and tow build and my cost was quite a bit higher than yours.

Good stuff Cam, 13k on electrical wow, but tell you what, like you’ve said in previous vids, your car can essentially run your caravan.
Not bad seeing as a new GR Sport is like 150k with no touring accessories like what you have. I reckon youve biult a great car. And i like your honesty, thanks for sharing.
Nice ain't cheap. That's for sure😊
The GX 300 is such great value. You've got a fully built ready to go tourer for less than the price of a bog stock Sahara. I know where I'd rather put my 150k.

Cheers mate. Yes it’s easy to blow the budget on these things!!
Well firstly, I could never justify that sort of money on a wagon. BUT considering ur situation, I completely understand, and well done. What I did notice was that some mods I thought were cheaper than I expected, and, to me good value. Others not so much (Gday arb). However, when u gave a total, I was surprised. I expected more like $170k (I wasn’t adding when I watched). I’ve got some all spark gear, and I rate it. Good value too. Anyways, you’ve created a nice rig for urself n ur family. Looks well thought out, and I like its subtlety. Congrats!🇦🇺👍🎯🍻

Wat about a winch Cam? Happy Easter hope Easter 🐰is good to kids 🍻
@WildTouring
4 ай бұрын
Happy Easter! I’m always torn on whether to run a winch. When you NEED one, they are brilliant. But in all honestly I can count the times I’ve NEEDED one on one hand in the last 15 years of travelling and 4x4ing. There’s almost always another way to safely recover the car. It’s a lot of weight, cost and maintenance for very little use (for us). But I’m sure how useful they are is down to the type of driving you do and where you live! It’s still on the maybe list at this stage!
It is what it is! A good tray, canopy and wiring package on a costs $35k. Any reason for choosing that particular awning?
@WildTouring
4 ай бұрын
Absolutely! I’ve run the 30 second awnings for years, had one on the dmax too and was always happy with it. They are really good value for money!
Need toget myself a government job 😂😂👍👍 great vid guys 👍
Nice Job. Any idea what the weight of the car is now compared to when you drove it out of the showroom with no passengers?
@WildTouring
4 ай бұрын
Cheers mate! Last time it was weighed it was 3180 fully loaded (with family, dog, full of fuel/camping gear/tools/recovery gear etc). Since then we’ve added side steps, solar and awning. So would be closer to 3300kg. Tare was 2450kg for reference.
For what it's worth, I appreciate the long range fuel tank in my car as the best addition I've added to it. I'd probably do that first with any replacement vehicle. I appreciate the transparency with your build cost details Cam but seriously mate, it's way out of my budget consideration. If you can afford it, why not? I hope it delivers for you.

Cheers mate! Haha you did better than me then! Before the build I was hoping to be done for probably 10k less. But I’ve found parts have gone up heaps since building the last car, and because it’s a new model, there is definitely less choice for brands.
Wow

Under $50k of mods for what you do and how often you use it is pretty good I reckon. People deck out their 4wd’s with all the gear and it’s purely just to say that they’ve got this and that and don’t use it.

Heavy Duty long range tank, dual ladders, dual roto pax fuel mounts, expedition roof rack, rhino bull bar, warn winch, quick silver exhaust, tuff ant rims with brake conversion, KM3 tires, CB radio, Cel Fi, 200amps of lithium, custom drawer, Engel draw fridge, led light bars and side and rear lights, arb twin compressor in engine bay; with exits on the front and rear. Like I said, trade price on some gear, and some was sponsored. Most was full retail. I’ve listed what things cost so that it’s relevant to people that want to build their own vehicles. Hoping that’s helpful to some viewers.
Thank you for sharing these details. It’s concerning when you see so many perhaps ones who shouldn’t be spending this sort of coin then challenged to offload the car because the loan payments are too much after only 12 months.
Everything but you forgot the kitchen sink
I'm surprised with the beach work you havnt gone with a rust inhibitor. The money you have spent gets used out there and doesn't just see the burbs.

It’s definitely overkill for most. No doubt about it. Big system and costly. All quality gear that will last a long time and is doing exactly what it was designed to do - so I’m thrilled with it. And think it’s money well spent.
wow lucky you didnt go for nthe top of the range model tif would have hang your nuts out to dry haha
Why I unfollow so many on youtube Over complicate something so simple and make others think they need to also spend the same to "tour" Question ... if a "GVM upgrade" was so simple, why doesn't Toyota offer it ? Who warrants any damage done towing too heavy ? Pedders? Toyota sure wont
@WildTouring
4 ай бұрын
I’m not telling anyone what they NEED to “tour”, I’m just sharing what I have done. A GVM upgrade is pretty simple. Toyota can organise it, as they did for me. No manufacturer would sell every vehicle with a GVM upgrade as standard because the car would be horrendously uncomfortable driving it off the show room floor empty without weight in it. Most users won’t need the upgrade. GVM upgrade doesn’t mean you can tow more. It increases your payload in the vehicle. Towing is still 3500kg, or 6750kg combined. Warranty situation is going to be unique for every claim. But I’ve never had a problem in my years and many thousands of kms with cars that have GVM upgrades. Have made several successful insurance and warranty claims.
No way you paid retail price for everything listed. Nice try though buddy.🤡🤡🤡

I did say some of it was trade, some labour is missing, some of it was sponsored (most was full retail). Listing what things cost is the most helpful way I can present information, so that people can use that info to plan their own builds. That’s what I want from my videos- to help people and inspire them to travel. Not gloat about free gear.
