Body punching at long range - Don't do this!
Спорт
When striking the body from long range avoid punching down to the target. Bend those knees and punch out at shoulder level. It's a lot safer, it's a more direct path to the target. So, when body punching at long range, punch out and not down.

Punching down shortens your reach, too.
Ah man Jake Paul really, really needs to watch this, his punches to the body start in the car park

Been in the sport 20+ years from PAL through the 3 levels of the Gloves and Nationals, now coaching as well.... TO THIS DAY I STILL DO IT. Punch down. As do most guys. Fran is 100% correct but in the midst of a fight, you sometimes see that opening and just go for it. Bad habit that everybody has

Yes, if the opening's there we go for it don't we. Thing is, guys with the level of experience you have KNOW when they can get away with it and when they can't...it's all that stuff that is learnt by doing. As coaches we can do so much, but fighters learn by fighting don't they. Great comment, thank you for taking the time coach 👍

@@myboxingcoach I would think when one does it they dont even realize it, butterflies and all. I specifically remember how badly this can work out from a smoker a few years back. One of my guys was fighting and they asked me if i could stand in at cruiser with a new Southpaw prospect. He had such a high guard all I saw was that big open space under his ribs, went to land a stiff jab and got flattened with his lead hook. Out cold on my feet and a hell of a gash. So listen to Coach Fran is the lesson. Dont be lazy, bend those knees and get low for body shots
Thank you sir love the vids
Also the force you can generate coming up from your legs is missed when you punch down, it'll just be an arm punch if I'm not mistaken

My knees hurt 😅 maybe in need to lose some weight
At 40 I'm looking to get back into boxing after years off. For Self defence and fitness really. Would you recommend it or am I too old to be sparring the young guns?
Body punching is so underutilized in Kickboxing/Muay Thai.

It's much more dangerous to duck like this in KB or MT because a kick or a knee can take your head off, that's why they'll usually kick at range and body punch closer
ye
Should you not be bending at the hips instead of the knees?

Leaning forward can be a problem - over balancing, vulnerability to uppercuts 👍
Wouldn't punching to the body be more effective AS you are ducking, rather than as you are doing, I .e ducking THEN striking?
