    This would have been so much better if the footage demoed the help and advice more, rather than showing the conversation between B and Omar. Like humour and joviality is great and all, but there wasn't all that much climbing filmed, and that's usually what beginners are looking to see.

    I have been climbing for 3 years, and yes, legs are extremely important. But I have heard people teaching saying that you only use hands for stabilization, while the real push is with the legs, and well.. I'm not 100% in agreement with that. It's also important to get some strength in fingers and arms, to avoid injuries and to keep stability in tough situations. Many times you hold on tiny holes, or pretty unstable positions, where your hands/arms suffer. Sometimes you have to lock your position to change your feet... or you hold the weight of your body for few seconds on your hands while you relocate the feet. Even if you do perfect feet move, you need some strength in your upper body. But yeah, normally beginners routes are not stressful for arms so I guess in that situation is right :) Great video guys, and really nice channel I have discovered here :)

    Note for step #3 that core is what connects your hands to your feet (more accurately, your shoulders to your hips). Beginners usually won't have core muscles and won't be able to "hover their hand" over the next hold because they won't have that core connection between their hands and a solid base. They'll be swinging from hold to hold because that requires less (near zero) core strength.

    I’m a beginner and I will definitely apply the tips on climbing on overhangs and using my hips and legs more. The way you were climbing on the overhang the first time, to show bad form, is me to a T. I pull way to much with my arms. So straighter arms and shifting my weight more with my legs.

    Quite interesting tips here. I would add that if you want to think about body position, having and solid base, etc. you also have to think about having opened hips (and squatting. I feel like there's a lot of squatting involved in climbing, but it's so underrated). Also, when you're "diagonally climbing", your legs are involved, but also a good part of you core is. So yeah, stop obsessing about your biceps and train that core people (make those planks last!).

    @Jenny Chen: it might sound weird, but for me it worked to just try it, fail and fall. when I fell a few times while hanging in a horizontal, I realized that it won´t hurt and it is okay. to prevent my feet from slipping, I conciously press hard against the foot hold or pull hard on a heel hook while climbing a up side down boulder with good Hand holds, so i dont Need to concentrate on my Hands. maybe this helps you too :)

    Bums me to say that the chalk bag doesn't represent your centre of mass. Imagine if you are horizontal across the wall your upper body would shift your centre of mass towards your head, but the chalk bag would still be attached to your waist. Great vid, thought!

    @StephenTurnerLawyersOfTomorrow5 жыл бұрын

    Guys, there are some good tips in here but you need to decide if you want to make a video about climbing technique or if you want to mess about on video. The messing about is fine if that is what the video is supposed to be about but if you are trying to pass on climbing tips then all the fluffing about your hair loss, pulling silly faces etc is perhaps amusing for you but not really for us and it just obscures the climbing content. You need to make really clear points and have the voice run over the video so that you instruct as we see the move i.e. at the same time. The audio instruction in these video clips is often disconnected to the video of the move / technique. Just do some more voice-over for the video of the move or tighten the edit so you overlap the audio from the 'to camera' interviews with the video of the move. There is about 1 minute of useful stuff in this video and the rest is just messing about by two guys who are nowhere near as funny as they think they are - but who clearly have a lot of good things to say about climbing technique etc.
