I used to write journal when I was younger. It was more like a diary where I wrote stupid stuff about my crush and stuff lol. I started journaling for two months now and I freaking love it. I can give special attention on things which is bringing me down and things which keep motivating me. You really motivated me to start journaling again so Thankyou ❤️

I'm the opposite when it comes to journaling! The more I write about negative and sad things, the better I felt, because it all goes away once it's written down on the page. I don't tend to read my entries back, but if I do, I just know that things were not that bad but I needed to get them off my chest ❤️

eee thank you for sharing your body image struggles with us Jenn!! something that's helped me a lot immensely is also thinking about body neutrality more so than body positivity. and getting out of the mindset of moralizing food as either "clean" or "not clean", "dirty" and "not dirty", our bodies and our health journeys as neither "on track" or "off track". our bodies simply are, and allow us to be. thank you again for sharing your experience with us because it reminds me, at least, that we're all just people trying to make sense of life and of ourselves and others.

Girl, I don’t think you shouldn’t say anything if you “don’t have anything nice to say” because honest criticism is genuinely helpful! I’m personally tired of this whole mentality of pretending we don’t have negative feelings. You can make them meaningful and authenticity is more important than being fake nice or omitting info.

I wrote a poem a day for 30 days and as I looked back on them I saw how dark they were, and it made me feel disturbed, because I'm not upset all the time, just sometimes. What you said helped me consider the way I write, and how I express. I have watched your videos for probably 10 years now, and always get something enlightening from them. Thank you!

Jenn, I appreciate you sharing your struggle with your own perception of self or body image. I hope you can find peace, balance, and enjoyment in breaking free of that unhealthy pursuit to be underweight 🙏🏽. Something I learned when I was obsessing over my body image (weight specifically) is that it has nothing to do with health, appearance, or even seeking praise from others. It was about control. I can't control people & circumstances around me, but I can control my physical appearance. When I felt like things around me were becoming chaotic or unpredictable, a stress response was to become extra controlling of myself. That is not a balanced mindset, but an extreme I used to choose in the past. I'm older & happier now that I am less critical of myself 🙂.

Anyone else here that has never been able to get over the "performative" journaling block? Like when it feels like you're not journaling for yourself? Is that just a phase in the beginning that goes away? I have always wanted to get into journaling and feel like I could really benefit from it but just catch myself feeling like I'm giving up too soon because it's just a performative activity. Thoughts?? Also love this video Jenn 💞 and would love to see a body image video!

I understand a bit of the performative aspect, but for me it's because I know I am writing for not only my present self but also for my future self. I journal when I have significant events or thoughts but whatever it is that I need to get out of my head. I tend to go back and read old entries so I do partly write for my future self, but that still is for me, so it works for me. That's for prose-type journaling. I tried bullet journaling, like the super decorative kind that many people on youtube do, but I found a much larger performativity in that type of journaling that I did become divested and unmotivated. I liked the decorative aspect at first but it quickly became a chore and that affected my utility of it. So I instead transitioned to using classic bullet journal techniques in my everyday planner and I decided I can be creative and decorate my planner page if I feel like it that week, or not. I think I just needed to be real with what is actually helpful for me and what I will use the most often. At the end of the day, journaling provides a function and you gotta achieve that and maybe that'll either help with dealing with the performative aspects of it or diminish a performative feeling.

Great tips for journaling!!! I do the same with breaking each topic into different paragraphs or bullet points! And diddo to writing with the mentality to not focus on how you may sound to someone else or worrying if anyone will read it. I think even writing messily sometimes too is helpful, and writing on paper verbatim what your mind is saying. Sometimes you just need to get repeated thoughts out of the intangible space in your head and onto something tangible and solid. That way you can see your thoughts and realize they aren’t so scary or so big.

Fuuuuck I feel you about the coffee. Also thank you for sharing your body image issues. Any person of any body type, suffers from body image issues. It is even tougher to talk about it out loud to a big audience of people. I am a fat person, that used to never understand why people of smaller sizes struggle with body image issues. They have the body I always wanted. Yet this past few years I have been having an open mind and heart, to anyone's struggles. It helped me to be kinder to myself as well. I enjoy your videos, especially the food ones because you have amazing recipes and I enjoy you and your partners interactions with one another is so cute! Much love from Nevada! Neece

I’m so glad you said that the perfect body is a malnourished body. It’s so true. I know someone who is a size 2 and her doctor told her to eat more because she was literally malnourished.

I've had a very veeeery indulgent couple of months cos my birthday was in November and all the festivities in December. Been feeling fat and all, and I'm lowkey also scared of gaining more inches this week. I'm just so grateful to hear that you've gone through the same phase and now, you've succeeded in being at peace with your body. Thanks for inspiring us Jenn! I do aspire to be like you in many aspects!

After a bad breakup, a therapist recommended that I journal when I was feeling really down. It helped me get through the cry or the anxiety attack in that moment, but after a while I realized that all I was thinking about the breakup was the bad - the stuff I wrote when I was angry and hurting. So, I threw away all the rant pages (and deleted all the word documents..), wrote everything I learned from that relationship, and I pretty much stopped ruminating about this guy. Thanks for the journaling tips Jenn :)

thank you so much for these journaling tips. im definitely guilty of journaling only when i feel like i need to vent and get stuff off of my chest (especially this year because i feel like peoples lives are already filled with negativity so i dont wanna overshare my recurring feelings) and eventho it can sometimes be useful, it results in journals filled with negativity. i remember reading through my old journals and feeling so sad for past me. so im definitely gonna try your advice ! and try to create a habit of journaling the positives, too!

I really appreciate your journaling tips. I've been trying to do that for years, but every time I wrote something negative, it would "poison" the whole journal for me, and I would eventually destroy it (even if I managed to be consistent with it for a few months). I realized it is because I don't want to remember those bad moments. I now see that I was also ranting and being dramatic rather than being a more "distanced", calm observer of my feelings and thoughts. This time I will keep in mind that bad things happening are okay, I just need to write about them in a different way. I'm starting my journal today. Thanks Jenn xx

Great episode! It's suggested that you "vent" either in a separate journal or on single piece of paper. We need to get all the negative out, "venting" but we don't necessarily want to keep it around. Personally, I tear up my "venting" pages and throw them in the garbage.

I have struggled subconsciously w/ body image as both a girl thinking she was too chubby and trying to lose weight, and a girl who has lost the weight and now thinks parts of her are a bit too thin. The pointless aims of weight loss are SO NOT WORTH IT. Nothing changes. It changes NOTHING. We are perfectly fine the way we are, all that matters is our health. I can't believe that after losing the weight I now want the reverse of what I have. There is NO PERFECT WEIGHT/BODY. LITERALLY not a thing, there's no point being hung up on it because we are never gonna be satisfied that we are the perfect. But I'm telling you that we are :) Remember you are beautiful !

Love these journalling tips! I also don't do well with ranting while journalling... which honestly is one of the reasons I don't stick to journalling much or I'm afraid to write a lot of the times. Since I tend to overanalyze and can be negative about my flaws, shortcomings or mistakes.
