Body Fluid Compartments: Intracellular, Extracellular (Interstitial, Plasma, Transcellular)

Body fluid compartments explained: fluid is stored inside various compartments within our body.
When studying fluid and electrolytes in nursing school, you'll learn that there are two main fluid compartments: the intracellular fluid (ICF) compartment and the extracellular fluid (ECF) compartment.

The intracellular fluid compartment refers to the fluid within the cell.
The extracellular fluid compartment refers to the compartments found outside of the cell, and it can be divided into three other fluid compartments:
-The intravascular fluid compartment, which is also called plasma. This is found within the vascular system.
-The interstitial fluid compartment - this is the fluid compartment that is outside and surrounding the cells.
-The transcellular fluid compartment - this is the fluid compartment found in the joints, spinal cord, and surrounding organs such as the lungs and heart.
In addition, reviewed is osmosis. This is where water will move from an area of high water concentration to an area of low concentration. Or in other words, water will move from an area of low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration.
