    Love these short videos. The wife has level IV in her shtf bag and I have III+ to save weight. My cabin has my IV plates but that’s our fall back if society decides to purge itself. Or if the dollar collapses, which looks more and more likely.

    Just bought a carrier that fits me. It looks like I need the smaller plates. That’s cool, may save me weight , or money , or both. Trying to look for a deal soon. This stuff is awesome. Slide it on and it’s fine under a jacket. I just wear the plates I don’t have any kit but I guess I could invest in some attachments. Mine is going to designed to be concealed for now though. I don’t want to ever look like I’m tactical ykwim. Edit Haha wow. So this molle system the webbing does accept my pistol magazine carriers on them perfectly. That’s awesome. Maybe I can put spares on here . I’m looking for AR pouches to be honest but I don’t have my AR yet . A few magazines and .556 stocked for now.

  • @kenofken9458

    @kenofken9458

    Ай бұрын

    I don't believe there are steel Level IV. Nor any standards for higher levels. The problem with steel for level IV and certainly for higher is that you'd end up with plates that weigh 30 pounds apiece or more. Even modern tanks don't use just plain steel anymore because the weight to protection ratio is much worse than composites.

    @kenofken9458

    Ай бұрын

    @@7dayspking Beyond IV, who knows? Maybe the newest XM-5 military round with tungsten penetrators or something. Of course military armor does not use the same NIJ rating system we're used to so I'm not sure what any advances there would translate to. Strictly speaking we shouldn't be using the Level IV designation now. NIJ has a new system in the works which would use RM1, RM2 and RM3 for rifle plates. I guess it has not officially been adopted yet. At some point, the issue is not so much stopping the round as what to do with the blunt force trauma. There are advanced and/or overbuilt Level IV plates now which claim to stop .50 BMG rounds but that does little good if a shock wave of kinetic energy just ruptures critical organs despite no pass through or excessive backface deformation. I might be interested in seeing a Level IV steel plate, but I'd have no interest at all in trying to wear one. Good ceramic armor may be expensive, but an intact spine is priceless.

    No armor is certified to stop that round. There are some gimmicky claims that this or that plate will, and they all seem to be Level IV. Even where unofficial tests do prevent pass through of the round, there is no good science that shows that a person would reliably or even probably survive such an impact.

    I commented on your short that was about armor levels because you confuse the hell out of me cuz I researched all of this I guess it was something like four years ago fly can't believe it's been that long but anyway I am confused as hell because number one I don't ever remember seeing SRT or SRT Plus but that's not really what I'm confused about although there's a little weird because it almost is like what I had an understanding of as a level 3. Anyway what really is confusing the hell out of me is that when I went through all this stuff and looked everything up I know that it said level 3 plus protected against everything below but did not protect against 308 I believe the number I remember is 3000 FPS... Anyway I also know that I'll have all three plus didn't have any type of ceramic strike face and you're saying or at least you said in the short something that's totally different. I ended up getting set of plates from ar500 that it was what everybody was calling level 3 + I was able to get them because they were on sale and then I figured out if I went and purchased a digital gift card that I could get another by forget 10 or 20% off so I ended up being able to get both plates at my door for something like 150 give or take. The only thing is I was very upset because they did not come with fall protection and I was like okay I'll pay for it oh wait there is no freaking option to add small protection to these plates that I was purchasing because they were on sale for I don't remember maybe it was buy-one-get-one I don't remember but I was able to get them because of the sale they were on and the discount on the digital gift cards that I had them sent to my email address and immediately used for checkout LOL but yeah I think that's pretty disgusting any armor company would sell plates that don't come with small protection the Huddle and say a few we're not even going to let you pay us extra put it on for you! But I knew if I didn't get them I would never be able to get any or at least not for a long time and it was the only option I had in order to get something that would stop AR round which is kind of what I looked at as the most common more powerful round... so I'd really like to know what is going on here did they change the ratings within the last couple of years or what I don't understand because I know for a fact they said they would not stop a 308 and I know for a fact they do not have ceramic strike face they were rated which I believe it is 3000 FPS. I mean I have these plates from ar500 armor that say level 3 plus and rated for up to 3,000 FPS and I mean I spent weeks looking at all this stuff! Can someone please help me out here! I'm not saying that this guy is wrong or whatever I'm just saying that I know what I researched a know-it-all the companies were saying and I know what I purchased and I know what I have right now and it's different than what he said in the short video about armor levels so I'm just confused as hell as to WTF is going on and if they changed what the levels are supposedly made to protect against or I just don't understand
