I never realized just how young Fischer was when he started crushing well-known GMs and becoming famous. He was a child. That would have been awesome to be there and witness it as it was happening. RIP Bobby

Fischer did the right thing by dropping out of high school to focus on his career as a chess player. I bet he had a more noteworthy life than anybody, students or teachers, in the school he left. Schools are mostly warehouses. They hurt people, wasting their time at the most critical stage of their lives. The credentialism that keeps schools in business does not matter to somebody who actually knows how to do something that people will give him/her money to do.

@ScottishNonBeliever yeah some ego sometimes (kasparov or Fisher) .....with chess ...but there are a few grand masters with great respect ...check Karpov or Judith Polgar... .... but it's still a good game

@TRUEMAN8919 overall i would agree but Morphy i believe was a better natural talent . He played as a hobby and never wanted to be known for being a professional chess player . He as a lawyer ( takes alot to become one) was still the best chess player in the world and left chess because he was bored. I think he prolly has to be the most casual chess playing world champ ever.

Benko sacrificed his place in the Candidates (not the final knock-out)Fiischerqualified by virtue of winning this and eventually meetingSpassky. It was not totally ajtruistic as he received $2000 dollars from the USCF although him and Fischer were good friends.

Incorrect these things are real. It's likely Fischer had high functioning autism. His low desire for social interaction, sensitivity to light and sound, obsession for one or two activities are all typical of someone with high functioning autism.

1elchacal: As great as Capablanca was, he was eclipsed by Fischer (and subsequently by Kasparov) and he would be the first to admit it if he were alive today. That being said, I would NEVER characterize *any* chess player (past or present) as the "God of Chess" (no matter how great they are) because doing that trivializes the great game of chess.

lol, up and coming star of world chess.... a bit like watching paint dry. I love the way it's so hyped up. I think in the real world, it's actually a board game. Ha ha ha, a prima donna chess player, I can't think of anything more pathetic.
