Fun fact - Rosie Perez (actress who was a presenter on The View) choreographed his early dance routines. She was still in school but got talent spotted dancing in a club and invited to dance on Soul Train. She then got talent spotted on Soul Train just before Bobby released his first solo album, and got asked to choreograph Bobby's first solo album. Bobby credits himself with teaching Michael Jackson his iconic dance moves - but Bobby got his dance routines from Rosie.

It was a big deal to stay up and watch award shows! The acts were amazing, like "here's a free concert for you!" - something you couldn't see anywhere else, esp as a young kid who couldn't go to actual shows or just get online. Now I can stream about anything, anywhere so when I realized they just had another VMA, I couldn't believe they're still trying to do that 😂 I love new music, but no one can create this particular kind of energy on a tv "event" in this era. The closest thing I can think of in recent years (for me, and I'm unashamed) was waiting up to live stream Beychella lol

I’m glad Bobby got to experience the solo success he did even if it was for a few years bc his peak was MASSIVE! In 1989 he outsold every other popular artist at the time with Don’t Be Cruel. Performance wise Bobby had James Brown/Michael Jackson type of stage presence. And he was arguably just as good of a dancer in his peak. He wasn’t traditionally a godlike singer like a Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, El Debarge, or Johnny Gill but he carried his own vocally in his songs. Bobby shined on stage that’s why he’s known as the KING OF STAGE! He also was one of the first popular r&b artists that consistently rapped in his songs. Him and Teddy Riley were the main pioneers of the New Jack Swing sound that dominated r&b/pop music from the late 80s to early 90s.

Whitney once said in an interview that she was impressed by Bobby this night, as he was the only artist who came on the stage and didn't lipsync. From this night they dafed for 3 years before getting married . Her friend said Bobby had asked her to marry him at least three timrs before they became engaged, but she kept refusing saying she wasn't interested in getting married to anyone at that time. Eventually in 1991 he proposed again in the car on the way back from the airport "are you going to marry me or not" and she said yes. 14 years married, 17 years together, one child and 4 miscarriages (plus a baby with his old girlfriend whilst they were together... r.i.p Bobby Jr). Ups and downs occurred but they loved eachother deeply. Right love, possibly the wrong time...

He said Whitney had her friend grab the robe he flung off and asked if she could keep it. He said that she could cuz he didn't think he'd wear that suit again. I'm only on page 122, and it is such a good and revealing book so far!!!!!
