    So, between 1988 and mid-1989, I was blessed to see Michael Jackson, PRINCE, and Bobby Brown in that particular order. Bobby tore that arena up in a good way. By that time, he was headlining the DONT BE CRUEL TOUR. His opening acts were Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock, Karyn White, and Levert. The concert was held at The Houston Summit (now known as Lakewood Church) and IT WAS AWESOME! It was at that moment that I decided to catch Bobby Brown whenever he makes a stop in Houston because I know he will deliver a great show with great live vocals. Since then, I've seen him on The Heads of State Tour along with Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill. I also saw him in concert with New Edition back in 2012, just a few weeks after Whitney had passed away. Now, NE was already killing it onstage. They were about 3 or 4 songs into their set when the opening chords of HIT ME OFF started playing. That's when they brought Bobby out onstage and the crowd went from loud applause to FEVER PITCH APPLAUSE. I feel so blessed to not only catch Bobby in concert while in his prime, but, also, to still be able to see him in concert wrecking the stage in his senior years as well. And, his vocals seem to be returning to his prime abilities as far as range and clarity. Bobby Brown is IMHO one of THE GREATESTS EVER!

Just like Rick James..amazing artist, musician, entertainer but his personal life and all that happened had shined more than his music in the people's eyes. Which is a shame, but he definitely deserves the love he should have gotten through the years. And this performance was LIVE too? Dancing fast and singing good well at least to me, I always dug his voice. Some folks find issues in everything, but Bobby B most def was the man then.

    I remember this just it was yesterday! Bobby always showed out when he was on Arsenio. Bobby was always a top of the line entertainer. ❤️🕺🏾🙌🏾😎💯 It's a shame how the media tore him down and tried to make out to be the bad guy or some sort of joke. Bobby is a icon as far as I'm concerned. 👑

We look at some of our greatest black musical talents have come up short. One of the most compelling to me was David Ruffin. His voice was incredible but no one could save him.

    every time i see this clip it takes me waaay back and i get chills. My crew back in philly WORSHIPPED this performance and had all the steps and ad libs down. Amazing how almost 30 yrs later how relevant it still is. They are wearing those 'genie' pants TODAY and he broke down the rap and said 'Slay' like everyone is saying today. There is truly nothing new under the sun, but it s good to see that good music lasts forever.

    ***** It wasn't Bobby leaving the group that had NE on the down swing. It was the change in the music landscape. NE, regardless if Bobby had stayed, had to make some different music. Johnny gave them a more grown up sound, something they would have had to do whether Bobby stayed on not.

  • @ABSAT01

    @ABSAT01

    stonedog23 You are very right about NE. Bobby's leaving actually saved the group in many ways because it forced them to change. If NE did not change prior to the "Heartbreak" album they would have been "remember that group New Edition from the 80's?..." With Bobby's leaving and his explosive success that put a lot of spotlight on The New Edition. Johnny's joining definitely changed the dynamics of the group for the better (a more mature sound) and a good album with Jam & Lewis that allowed the public and the music industry to take them seriously.

    hollabklyn7 As far as innovation relative to the competition, Bobby was the top. Just like Chris. Chris had the advantage of tapes of the legends available to him. Bobby not So much.

  • @hollabklyn7

    @hollabklyn7

    +Craig Bunton Whatever man, you reaching. Michael came before them both and is still ahead of each because of his ability to perfect moves, constant innovation by introducing new dances with each era of albums, and the crisp precision on his choreography is 2nd to none. And with that being said, Michael had even less tapes than Bobby or Chris. So don't give me that. If you got it, you got it. They all got it, but Chris over Bobby, and Mike over them both. That's not a bad thing, it's not a condescending thing, it's just a thing. They are all great, it was just a statement.

    I'm of Chris's generation and a fan but how can this actually be a real conversation of comparing him in terms of innovation. Name ONE thing Chris is known for that's uniquely his. Everything he did was 2000s version of icons before which is fine BUT he didn't infuse enough creativity to walk away with anything that's distinctly Chris brown. He is an amazing dancer don't get me wrong I just don't put him in the trendsetter or imagineering (LOVE Disney) category. Mike and Bob I would.
