A great song, but Without the Vocals of George Jones, the majority of listeners today would have never heard of George Jones, much less Curly Putnam. This song still carries the emotional impact today as it did the first time I heard it in April of 1982. It is so impactful, everytime that I personally need a good cry, this song performed by George Jones, never has let me down, I get a good heart and soul felt crying session, then I am ready to go until I get weighted down again. Thank God for the power of words, the talent of writers, musicians, and singers. This never fails to give a good heart cleansing. He was cowriter of this song, But without The voice of George Jones, 90 % of those that have heard this song would have never listened to it. The voice of George. This song would have never made it on radio. Nor anywhere else.

Bobby's writing and George Jones singing it, made this the greatest song of all time.

I was visiting my cousin and his wife a few months ago and we were watching a documentary about George Jones. I told them I couldn't listen to him sing He Stopped Loving Her Today without crying. A few minutes later they played it. I looked at them and we all had tears running down our cheeks. I can't think of a more perfectly crafted song. Absolute genius. Then add George Jones's voice-- you're just destroyed. Thank heaven for both their talents.

One of the Best Songwriters you have heard, but may have not heard of. I grew up on his songs. He made a rare appearance on the Marty Stuart Show....awesome stuff. I am a songwriter, and he amazes me.

Dear Jonathan. I'll tell you how I mess up on my own song. I sing it in front of a roomful of country music legends like Crystal Gayle, Bill Anderson, Little Jimmy Dickens, etc. and get a little nervous and blow a line. Make sense to you?

According to Frank Sinatra, George Jones was the "second" best singer of all time.
