Hi Bob Gary from Waco Texas. Those Revolutionary War guns are small for a reason .Tthey used a lot of a four Pounders even two pounders. To make a long story short it was all about logistics. The battles were smaller than European battles ,light infantry tactics and the terrain was pretty rough moving big guns through those forest was not an easy endeavor. Moving big guns across the Atlantic back in those days was like moving tanks and apcs today. I don't even know if there was a cannon Factory here in the Americas at that time. One time they took the Cannons apart and move them on sledge's across the mountains and then reassembled them when they got across. The big guns tended to stay in Forts. If you need bigger guns those ESCI French guns are perfect they are Gribeauval and they didn't change much for 50 years hope that wasn't too long-winded and I didn't sound like a know-it-all. PS. Check out the AE movie The Crossing with Jeff Daniels you'll see how small the guns were. Great Revolutionary War movie also check out April Morning with Tommy Lee Jones

My very first Airfix soldiers was a box of Afrika Corp and 8th Army, i was 5 years old, mid 1960s. I made a troop train in school using the class playbox brio train set, and i remember the teacher wondering what a tot was doing with intricate bits of plastic....fortunately my parents understood me better than the teachers did, as although i was banned from bringing them in to school again, that was the start of saturday morning trips to get boxes of soldiers from woolworths.

Cool video. Interested in finding a copy of that Airfix book. Every page turn I was thinking, yep, got those! That British Army uinforms from the Seven Years War and American War of Independence is very cool too - might need that. I noticed, in the Airfix book, the Robin Hood set, which I had, and the classic Errol Flynn style costume. Robin Hood has not been portrayed like that for decades.

The Robin Hood and Sheriff of Nottingham sets were/are actually pretty good. But ever since the Kevin Costner movie, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, the costumes of that period have been portrayed very differently, making the Errol Flynn era look more like pantomime. I'm not sure how many figure companies are doing sets with that kind of clothing, the more varied and rougher look, I mean. The British Commandos are a great set. I got those as a fairly young kid I think, and played with them endlessly. Good poses and sculpting too. Airfix did some cool stuff.

That's a lot of projects on the go. Some fantastic buys there. Love that Airfix book and that original Airfix Waterloo box brings back memories of seeing it at the Merrion Centre Beatties store in Leeds. My folks response was NO. But I did get the 1/32 British Footguards and Imperial Guard as compensation (I think they worried about six yr old me eating the smaller figures!)(Although as everyone knows 1/32 swoppits taste best)😂

ha, love the rebel hat Bob. I like that Imex stuff particularly the artillery. What i find with the soft plastics is the varnishing makes them to brittle so I have given up on that. The Imex and Emhar guys are already brittle but hard so i varnish them. The rest, no.

Hi Kaiser, I bought a few boxes they seem ok, but I noticed that there was a bit of flash on some of the figs, I wasn't to impressed with that. I would rather stick with the 2nd generation stuff, the original are cool but antiquated.
