Fabulous routine. Bob Newhart was original and brilliant.

One of the funniest tape ever....i listen to this every few years and it's still funny....

timeless humour, still as funny today as it was when it came out

Dean Martin was a talent machine.When I was a kid and listened to him he always sounded a bit drunk.Now 40 years later he still does.Great show Mr. Martin.

@@SBel65 It has been a while since I have watched this. Good humor doesn't have to rely on current events. Sometimes it is easy to forget how talented Bob Newhart was. He was essentially making people laugh with a history book.

I remember the galloping gourmet (graham Kerr) and Julia child always sounded half drunk too but I think that was bc they were always drinking wine on their cooking shows, the other one I remember always sounding drunk back then was Peter O'Toole.

This launched when I was a kid and helped me decided to never smoke. He made it seem ridiculous--which it is. Now I'm 69--with great lungs.

We've been eating turkeys in England for centuries, and although not at thanksgiving, (which we don't have), certainly at Christmas. Bob Newheart was great though, and my mum used to play me his routines on vinyl in the 60s.

This guy was sooo funny !

King James wrote a treatise against smoking in the 1600s. He saw it was bad from the start. He said the smoke was noxious and it was bad for the lungs.

Classic comedy sketch. Brilliant.

This is class entertainment.

Tobacco also has medicinal uses. Doctors would fill a bellows up with tobacco smoke and then blow to smoke up and into a patient’s posterior.

Dean Martin did drink, just not always as much as it may have seemed to be. Oh, and Bob Newhart is hilarious.

Newhart does almost that in another similar routine where "Walter Raleigh" is trying to convince the queen to invest in tobacco. In one exchange she asks him: "Isn't that like standing to close to a fireplace?"

Bob Newhart says, "Thank you, Dean." Maybe you'll need to listen with headphones or ear buds, and it's not really that big of a deal anyway, but he does say Dean. :)

Dean Martin became popular because he was very talented. Great singer, great actor, and very funny comedian.

Probably funny to Americans who seem to like mocking British history, but the information used to make this joke is so stupidly incorrect it prevents it being funny. Shame, because I do like Bob Newhart and have always been a fan of Dean.
