When Bob was in Winnipeg for a show 15 years ago he showed up [during the day] to a house on Grosvenor Ave where Neil Young spent his formative years. The owners of the house invited him in for a tour and he was very interested in seeing Neil's old room, the view he had out his window as a teenager, where he listened to music etc. So ya, most likely he was checking out Springsteen's old neighborhood. The genius of Bob Dylan can't be overstated.

Many years ago I was visiting retired relatives at their home and we took a walk. It was a upscale area and I was told of a famous peoples houses. One of them had belonged to the great Liberace but was in probate after his passing. We got it into our mind that it would be ok to walk onto the property and have a look, after all it was unoccupied and had been for sometime. After we ventured down the drive and took a look around we were peering into the back windows when it occurred to me we probably wouldn't be able to explain ourselves if someone showed up. I mentioned this to my companions and they agreed and we left without any trouble. Sounds like Bob went to look for the boss's house and seeing the for sale sign let his curiosity get the better of him.

Funny Dylan story, reminds me of a story when Chet Atkins had a layover at some airport so was killing time in an airport bar where a band was playing. One of the guys recognized him and offered his guitar to Chet to play. After he finished and was walking back to his seat some patron of the bar say's to him "you're pretty good, but you're no Chet" !

Hi Otis, Nice video this AM. I was in a band on a tour in NJ and we were harassed by the NJ gestapo. We were sleeping in a park with the generator running to power the ac etc on the bus while we slept. The police showed up weapons drawn beating on the side of the bus and demanding everyone get off the bus. This was a 45 foot eagle and we had stopped at the town hall to get permission to park there and sleep. We explained we were a bluegrass band doing a show and a radio appearance in the area. The officer demanded I move the bus and never return. I guess NJ's finest doesn't like bluegrass....or generators?

English breakfast? I absolutely love a full English breakfast. Bill Bryson, in his book “Notes from a Small Island” referred to the stewed tomatoes as blood clots. Black pudding looks bad, tastes great. Beans, mixed with your egg yolks, mopped with a bit of toast is to die for. Orange marmalade on the toast after eating a bite of English bacon cant get no better and all washed down with a Yorkshire tea? Sign me back up!

Enjoyed the slide show! Do it again. Enjoyed my coffee watching you today. The Dylan story was great and reminds of the type of things I’ve heard about Bob before. He’s a good guy from my perspective. I can’t wait to see your show and enjoy the jokes and music. From what I’ve seen and heard you blend them together very well. I like the idea of visiting places that are historic to me. Like you and Bob Dylan I would find the street where someone I admired lived. I have a niece who lived at Jim Morrison’s old address in Paris. Makes a great story for her. Thanks and see you soon, Otis!

Years ago I worked on some projects in Hibbing for a couple of years too, and looked up Dylan’s boyhood home. A very modest little box, four steps up to the front door landing, symmetrical windows. All I could imagine was his dad hollering “Shut the hell up!” down the basement stairs. (I absolutely LOVE Dylan BTW)

Not too long ago, I read something that really hit home. I wish I knew who to credit it to. It’s one of the most profound statements that I’ve ever read or heard and, at age sixty-eight, I’ve been around the block a time or too. I’m paraphrasing so if I don’t get this exactly right, I apologize to whomever wrote or said it. Perhaps a lot of people have said it in one way or another. Life should be about accumulating memories and experiences and not possessions. I should probably have that tattooed on my forearm where I could be reminded of it every day. There’s nothing wrong with having a few things that we enjoy or that make life easier. It’s especially nice to have something that commemorates an experience or reminds us of a friend or family member. Otis, this came to mind this morning based on the stories you’ve told today and in the past on this channel. I’ve been captivated by many of the people you’ve interviewed. You’re a perfect example of a person who has pursued memories and experiences instead of possessions. I really enjoy listening to you tell about them. You take pleasure from the little things that others often take for granted. The material things that we chase never turn out to be as good in our hands as they were in our imagination. The great memories live perfectly in our hearts and minds forever. Than you for sharing your memories with us. I hope there will be many more Saturday mornings like this one. This was a very pleasurable way to take my Saturday morning coffee. I hope you’ll continue to share your memories in both words and pictures.

Hey Otis. Love your video chats. I went to see Elvis Costello in Philly a couple of weeks back and stopped beforehand for visit at Edgar Allan Poe's house a handful of minutes away from the venue. We asked if any celebrities / authors had ever visited the home and were told Dylan had visited the home several years earlier when he played Philly. I live in Jersey and remember the Long Branch incident when reported. I think at the time he was playing a show at Monmouth College in Long Branch. I am pretty certain he was just seeking out Bruce's house. It would make no sense for Dylan to look to buy a home in Long Branch. He legally changed his name from Zimmerman to Dylan a few years after arriving in NYC...

My family knew Woody, he was the first "rolling stone." They are not settled, but driven by their curiosities, interests and motivated by their core good hearts. To a police officer, they appear way "outside the box." LoL

Otis, so glad to hear you talk about this. I remember reading about this when it happened, and it didn't seem so unusual to me considering the individual Bob is. What I did NOT know (until you said it) was that part about Bruce's Born To Run house. That's such an interesting part of the whole thing. I have my guesses, but I'm wondering why that was left out/omitted from the story way back when...🤔 Incidentally, I would just guess his passport reads "Robert Dylan" or "Bob Dylan" I can confirm to you that he did have his name officially changed, and I want to say it happened way, way back in '62 or thereabouts. Actually, if you have the liner notes/booklet that accompanies the bootleg series volumes 1-3, there is a photograph of his actual passport from the mid-seventies (i think). That passport reads Robert Dylan. Edit: ."maybe it was later than 1962 that the paperwork was 'officially' filed and recognized. but the name change was governmentally recognized very early on"

'Ole Audiophile to Ottis: As I watched your post, I could not help but wonder humorously if Bob had finally been arrested for theft by claiming membership in The Traveling Wilburys. We all see Bob in the videos every time they are shown but many of us have noticed his keeping silent in all those videos. I understood exactly why, he's among a group of living legends in Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, George Harrison & Roy Orbison. If I sang like him, I'd have kept my mouth firmly shut as well. Great stories sir, keep up the great posts/thanx. Freak show of freak shows, three of five legends have passed hence. Glad they did it...

Yes, more pics and stories please Sir. It's food for the soul. I find a certain peace in another's experience. Especially with the visual of the pictures. Thank You

Gotta say, I do the same if I’m interested in something. At least walk by, maybe not as intense as Bob Dylan. I’ll go out of my way for breweries and boat launches too. Just for future reference

Hey, Otis! I had breakfast with Tim Wright of The Wright Brothers Band and he had some memories of playing The Possom back when George owned it. He said he’d talk to you, just reach out! He has all kinds of stories about being a working class musician in the 70s-90s making records and stuff. He has an audio book telling all about it as well.

That would be in Long Branch, New Jersey. I spent years in Long Branch with the band Mr Reality, Samhill & Highway 9 (same band) signed to 3 major record deals.

I did enjoy the Slideshow and the stories you told. I love what you said, “there’s a lot of life in it.” That is a great quote that really expresses a way of living. I think my only brush of being near fame is with Chumbawumba. I wrote on their website commenting on someone’s essay about the song by Prodigy titled “Slap My Bitch Up”. I was coming from the point of view as a mother of a teenaged girl and teacher of teenagers. One of the very cool women from the band responded to me in a well thought out, beautifully expressed email. I don’t remember her name but I was very impressed with her writing and her activism. I certainly wasn’t expecting someone from the band to write me back! I kept a copy of that email for a long time. I personally enjoyed their whole CD and would have loved seeing them in concert! I’m really glad that your concert went well with them and your experience with them corroborates my respect for the band.

Hi Otis, Street art bloke is Frank Sidebottom :), a legend of Manchester sadly no longer with us, a man with a papier mache (sp) head, nasal voice and eccentric wit, he had a football team called the Timperley Big Shorts. Great you visited Ironbridge, my sis lives round the corner, stranglely I took my father in law down there in july 2012, stayed at a terrible boarding house named the Bird in Hand, we nicknamed it the Hand in Till. It is where the industrial revolution started, alas where things turned to sh*t and the rural poor had to travel to the cities for work..........same over there and everywhere.

I think it's funny that people who come here to visit want to see the steps that the priest was thrown down in The Exorcist. Washington DC area.

Thanks for another fun video! As far as I read, Bob (perhaps through his manager Jeff Rosen) requested to the officer that the story should never hit the press. Also, supposedly Dylan offered the officer a free ticket for the night's show. I wonder who actually leaked the story to the press?
