It was very enjoyable to watch, although I’m now beginning to wonder if Larry is ever going to stop trying to get Glen to love Pet Sounds 😂

My love of Dylan started at a young age in my early teens. My mom would play the greatest hits in the car when I was 10 or 11 - Like a Rolling Stone, Just like a Woman, I Want you those songs were really intriguing and the more and more I delved into his catologue the more and more I liked. Then at the recommendation of a family member I bought and listened to Blood on the Tracks at 13 and it blew my mind. I got more and more of his CDs and the more and more I listened the more and more I got into him. My second concert was Dylan when I was 14 in 2001 (first was Clapton). The albums that really effected me were - Freewheelin', Highway 61, Times they a-Changin', Bringing it all Back Home and Blonde on Blonde. I love the Beatles, especially early to mid stuff, but they never hooked me the way Dylan has.

My favorite singer of all time, too. The lyrics he writes probably plays a part.

A very interesting chat. I also wish I was around, listening to music and going to shows in the '60's. My favorite years of music are from 1965-1969. But, I grew up in the '80's. It was great to get into music during the music video revolution. That's how I was introduced to Bob Dylan. With the "Jokerman" video, and hearing songs from Bob's then current "Infidels" album on my local rock radio station. I started with "Infidels", then got his first "Greatest Hits" album, then the electric trilogy from 1965/ 1966. Then "Blood On The Tracks" and then, importantly, his "Biograph" box set. That led me to buy many more of his albums. I also agree that Bob is one of the best singers, despite that many complain about his voice. I'd put Bob at around my 15th best singer, my #1 songwriter, and somewhere in my low Top 5 as an overall music artist. I'm also a fan of some of today's music. Taylor Swift would be a good artist to do a series like this on. Pair a big fan, like myself, with someone around my age who can't stand that she's done so well and is so popular.

This was so much fun to watch, I checked out Dylan‘s song ‘Understood For Myself’ which I thought was great. Bob Dylan is my favourite songwriter some of this discussion was right up my alley!

Dylan is a genius and sometimes his actually musical shifts is overlooked as the lyrics are that good. Nobody has written as many great songs as Dylan

Dylan is to me the best example of the fact that a great voice is not the same as being a great singer. Dylan has used his vocal limitations - Because, not despite those limitations. That said, he’s gone thru phases where his phrasing has been truly bizarre. and I’m happy he’s valuing melody again (Shadow Kingdom)

I'm enjoying the podcast series. I am of the opinion that most serious rock/pop music fans should be able to find at least five albums to add to their collection and listen to enough to be familiar with. You might be surprised when your Dylan collection starts growing. It's been my experience.

Great episode and discussion! Dylan has such a rich and varied discography, that I feel there's always something for someone in there - you don't have to love or even like all of it, but there's a handful of albums or tracks that should strike all sorts of music fans.

That flew by - very enjoyable. I bought Highway 61 when I was about 15. For many years my only Dylan albums were Highway 61, Desire and the compilation Masterpieces. When the internet came along, I delved deeper into many artists, including Dylan. That was about 20 years ago and now I have all his studio albums, many live plus many of the standard bootleg series. I really like his voice. I agree with your guest Dylan about the term fan - it’s a fine line I suppose but… it’s like when the remix of Pink Floyd’s Animals came out, I went searching for reviews from fans as opposed to those who just like Pink Floyd - I suppose a fan’s take is more nuanced. I really like Bob Dylan and he is one of my favourites but I would fall short of saying fan …. I don’t know why. Anyway, that’s neither here nor there. I need to check their Dylan reviews - there is so much more to learn about Bob Dylan.

Larry, I know how much you enjoy the Slow Train Coming album and I listened to it the other day for the first time in probably 30 years. It had little effect on me in my early 20's. But YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about that record. It kicks ass in a way other Dylan albums don't. (I'm not saying it kicks greater ass or more ass...just a different kind of ass.) Thank you very much for the indirect album recommendation.

I’ve seen Dylan live at least a dozen times. My favorite is when I saw him in 84 with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as his band. Was my favorite setlist and performance that I’ve ever seen from him. My favorite Dylan studio albums are - Blood On The Tracks, Blonde On Blonde, Infidels, Highway 61, Freewheelin Bob Dylan, Bringing It All Back Home, Nashville Skyline, and Slow Train. I know that’s a lot of them, but I just play these so much, that I couldn’t leave any of them out. Down In The Groove is my least favorite.

Keep the crossovers coming. Im not that big into Bob Dylan’s music either, and I tend to prefer his “lesser” albums too. For example, I have a soft spot for his early 70s albums like Self Portrait, Dylan, Pat Garrett (which I find to be more interesting since it showcases a different side of him). Or his Christian albums like Slow Train Coming and Saved

I hope Joe doesn’t read this - Joe if you are, close yer eyes for a minute. Dylan, if you’re speaking of ‘Under the Red Sky’ - it made more sense to me when pointed out that it was a children’s album - he’d recently had a daughter (Desiree) by his second wife- the nursery rhymes make a little more sense.

Aesthetics and color are most important to beards. Joe really has a great beard. Sevey has a good one. So does Studmuffin - looking better than ever! Also, 15 mins of Neil Young playing guitar feedback is close to intolerable. Glen looks best with the two or three day old beard. I'm getting Dyland to death and not listening to a lot of this, but looking forward to The Basement Tapes. I have a feeling Joe might like The B Tapes - he's not a big Band fan, but he likes Music from Big Pink and the Band and Dylan together are good with the right amount of Southern charm and sloppiness.

Dylan named after Bob? My fam so into Dylan it's a wonder none of us are named Dylan yet. I recommend the book 61 Highways Revisited, by my uncle Bob Shiel

Oh hearing the answer now from Dylan, thanks. My opinion is that Dylan never gets boring because he's so entwined with 20th century lore and history. One time I saw him open with Rainy Day Women and I felt a huge glee with the whole amphitheatre 🔥

Hi, i started listening to Bob Dylan back in 1983, i didn't like his music that much at first, i preferred Beatles and Van Morrison, the first time i listened to him i thought he was 60 or something! Then something happened along the way, especially after the bootleg series, he is now one of my favoutite artists although there are so many i like that i can stay a month without listening anything by Bob, my only gripe is the lenght of some songs, overall is in my top 10 favourite artists. Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder are among the others i love

Just watched the Graham Norton chat show on TV and he had Timothee Chalamet mentioning his role of playing Bob Dylan, he’s a big fan of his and seems this is going to be a major biopic called ‘A Complete Unknown’ of Dylan’s career, so do you guys have any opinions about this? Apparently Bob is executive producer of the film too!

Interesting. I've never heard of it myself.

I think it's really important to listen to dylan live. You get a better sense of Bob's personality and sense of humor and 'learn the songs and then just play them' attitude with the bandmates

I’m thinking Dylan has 6 great albums and maybe 10-15 great singles!
